Armoured swimming, pictured in this episode, was a real samurai defensive art developed to account for situations where a samurai had to cross or battle in bodies of water with their armour on.

This is pretty neat, thanks. I heard of it one time when I was browsing Wikipedia but it's nice to see what it looks like.

I was just thinking, but I wonder how Rin will feel when he finds out about the tension between Sosuke and Haru. He seems busy trying to be a captain, which is new to him. It's going to be cool to see how he handles it and grows.

Does anyone know what real life town Free is based off of?

Iwatobi town is based on the real-life coastal town of Iwami in Tottori, western Japan.

Free! magazine scans, featuring:
1) Free! joggers
2) Shaved ice time
3) Pirates of the Iwatobi

Ahh thanks. Knew it was based off of some real world place but forgot where.

I'm curious to see how this season will go. Sosuke just seem overprotective, but he's still less a jerk than Rin was at this point in the first season.

And for some reason I could see Haru being a teacher. Maybe something will happen that will force him to teach someone to swim.

__
Also, any idea why season 2 got a separate thread rather than continuing with the first one?

I'm thinking Haru might just become a swim teacher too. He's too stubborn and hell bent to do things his own way to compete professionally...

I don't know, he seems a little too clueless and stuck on swimming himself, to be able to teach others. He didn't do that good of a job with Rei last season when they were all trying to teach him how to swim.

Now, Makoto on the other hand, he would definitely be a good swim teacher. But I'm not sure about Haru.

I remember that. Still he did seem to get a little better, like when he practiced his exchange with Rei, though that was never shown.

It'd be even better though if he finds that to be his calling. I wonder who he would teach. In my ideal world, it'd be Gou since she's the only one not shown swimming yet. My ideals never work out though lol.
What would be interesting is the possibility. Throughout the show Haru's made the point he doesn't care about winning and just wants to swim. It'd be cool to see him get passionate about his student's races.

I'm probably dreaming. Then again, like Miho said, You never know until you try lol

I think that Haru will get more passionate and competitive with his races as Sousuke enters their lives. This was the first time during a race that he was aware of his competitor to such a degree. I think it may begin to spark a change in him.

Certainly possible. Poor Rin though, if that does end up being the case. Rin could never really do that with Haru.

Rei appreciation episode, huh? Well, it's nice to see them making up for lost time. I guess they really did pay attention to the feedback about the last episode...

Another great episode. I'm so glad that Rei is advancing in his swimming. It would be so easy to go back to track since that something he already excels in, but it takes real courage and fortitude to stick it out with something that's challenging for you.

It also seems Rin is a better teacher than all the rest of his friends at Iwatobi and have succeeded where they failed in teaching Rei to swim.
Well, after achieving Olympic and professional success, Rin should think to become a swim teacher or coach.

Well, it's kind of telling that everyone is telling Haru he should strive for something greater, and even Rei begins to see the holes in Haru's style. Hopefully soon, Haru will see it too.

Sousuke is Rin's new roommate, and he seems okay and all, it's just something about those eyes every time Rin talks about his friends that makes me suspicious and weary of him. Well, we'll have to see that hopefully this new catalyst in their midst doesn't upset the boat too much. Rock it maybe, but don't capsize it.

It was nice to see Rei get his own episode. One where he doesn't get ridiculed to boot. He's finally starting not to feel like a fifth wheel anymore.

I hope each guy is going to get his own episode like this one. Some characters really need it.

It's nice to see that Rin's really aware of what he owes Rei, too.

Yes, I agree. And it was a nice touch that he turned to Rin for lessons, and Rin putting in the effort to teach him.

I like how Rin is trying to improve in his swimming skills and not just keep with butterfly style.

I would like this to happen too, probably Makoto and Haru are going to have it since this is their last year and they have to think about what are they going to do next.
I want a Gou episode too

I want a Gou episode too. We might not get a full episode devoted to her like we just did with Rei, but I think we'll see more of her this season than last season. All the episodes so far this season have had a more balanced distribution of attention among the student characters, IMO. I don't expect there to be an equal distribution among the students. I doubt we'll reach ensemble status. But I do expect a more balanced distribution with no one disappearing for episodes at a time. That's the sense I'm getting.

Rin wants bottom. Sosuke wants bottom. I don't like the implication.

It seems Rin can teach better than all the guys combined. I still don't like his shark teeth. Rei is too cute. So he bakes. (Now we have 2 cooking men on the team, one bakes, one grill.) There is still something suspicious about the way Rei denies that he's in love. Hmmm..

I'm Makoto inclined so I'm hoping for a Makoto and Haru focus ep.

It's nice to see how much Sharkboy has grown over the course of just these past 3 episodes. Although one the other hand it's a little sad that he was able to teach Rei better than Haru, Makoto, Nagisa, and Gou.

The contrast between the two schools is too vast not to notice. Samezuka has so many boys that they have to meet standards and hold tryouts, while Iwatobi struggles to even get someone interested in the swim club aside from Hana (is she like an honorary member now?). Then again, that's part of the reason Rin went to Samezuka anyway.
It was a surprise to see that Rei ended up going there. How far are the two schools anyway?

__

I would love to see a Gou-centric as well. I like that Sosuke suggested to Gou that he should go visit her more often since she seems lonely. I really loved the scene between her and Haru. I kind of hope the scene with her squatting by the pool while Haru looks up at her becomes a symbol of the show like how Makoto reaches his hand out to Haru. I was worried she would be cast aside this episode, but the opposite happened, so actually got a lot of screen-time. Maybe there is some drama heading her way.

There seemed to be a tinge of sadness when he said that to Rin. Seems like next episode we'll truly find out what their history is. I do like him more than I liked Rin this time last season though.

So far, Season 2>>>>Season 1.
