Any series that pull a "wrong genre-savvy" with fantasy?
Put simply, with so many fantasy series making excessive use of JRPG elements, I was wondering if there were any series where someone comes in expecting things to work that way only to have problems due to how far from that reality is.

My favorite Isekai series: Isekaimeikyuu no Saishinbu wo Mezasou
Localized as Dungeon Dive. It opens itself up as a typical Isekai story with harem and all that. But it eventually turns to be a story of deep anguish, despair and salvation in bad taste. Many of the genre trope got subverted very hard as well. Things like the status menu, fight for the OTP, even the entire Isekai meta got twisted in ways unimaginable. Which is also why their series didn't do well. Readers that would appreciate the emotional rollercoaster this series is offering would almost never look at it because of its Isekai skin. And the Isekai readers quickly drop out when the eventually see the true color of this series. https://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=141528 Last edited by shmaster; 2022-10-18 at 14:38. |
