epic story

I'm looking for a anime with a main epic plot like in Last Exile, Scrapped Princess and X TV. Prefer Fantasy / Magic or Sci-fi without mechs and schoolkids.
I'm quite fastidious when it comes to the drawing itself, so I'm not after poorly drawn animes (I really like the visual on Galaxy Railways, E's Otherwise, Last Exile etc.)
Nor do I like the childish humor so many animes are filled with (Naruto, Full Metal series etc).
Don't get me wrong, I really have no problem with 14-15 year old kids as main characters, as long as the series are serious.
Thanks in advance

Haven't really seen the 3 anime series that you have described there although i do have scrapped princess d/led. I recently watched Shingetsutan Tsukihime which is more of a serious story. It involves fantasy and magic characters and the storyline is quite complex although there are some secrets in the anime that you will have to read up on as they are not described in the series. The series itself begins with a lot of promise but then slows down a lot and is quite slow moving to begin with. However, the final episodes from about 9 onwards are damn good, although after watching the series i believe the middle episodes are integral to the finish.

Perhaps so obvious that you've already watched and haven't mentioned is Juuni Kokki. If you haven't, I think the first 3 DVDs are already out

What oishii said--Junni Kokki.

Also Ghost in the Shell - Standalone complex if u can get it. I'd also say RahXephon but since it has some mecha and u stated no mecha, it's your loss.
