I am speculating that the artist is playing off the hilarity that the VA for grown-up Chrono and Yuuichi is the same.

In the first version they were actually brighter.

I dont like to use alot of black for the eyes, so I changed the color along the way. You actually get used to the color after a while though. (or so I think

)

EDIT:

OK, changed the color of the eyes a bit. They should be a little darker now.
