Port range effecting BT downloads?

I was just curious as to if opening more ports for BT and extending the port range that BT uses will allow me to connect to more peers, and esentially allow me to maintain download speeds for multiple torrents.

I am using Torrent Storm btw

No it won't. All the port range does is define how many torrents you can have running at once (which isn't really accurate depending on your system anyway)

All inbound communication for a single torrent goes to a single port in the range. All outbound communication for BT is done from random ports in the range of 1024-65535 (roughly)

Some Operating Systems have limits as to the number of active connections they can have at once (primarily Windows 9X/ME) that will affect that.

I use ABC on a WinXP pro system and routinely connect to 100+ peers (when I have my connection limit uncapped).

If I want ideal download speeds, I cap my upload to 80% or less of my total avaliable upload speed. Maybe that'll help you.
