Personally I don't really care if Haruhi's big in the US or not. I won't mind if it had aired on CN, but if they've shunned it I won't be surprised. There are just too much ignorance and myopia when it comes to releasing anime to the Gen Pop. As long as real, hardcore fans gets to buy the good and the respect of the creative staff, I'm happy.

I'm most impressed with the marketing effort. I hate myspace ever since it became big, but even I made an account just to keep track with ASOS. I feel the people behind the American release efforts really wanted to respect fan's intelligence and knowledge. I appreciate these efforts.

I've been thinking about the broken English Adaptation line, and it seemed to me that if Tanigawa-sensei has considerable control over the Japanese website and its many cool hidden features and quirky-ness, he maybe doing the same with the ASOS site. With that English Adaptation line, they maybe telling us that Tanigawa-sensei is also in creative control of the ASOS site, and that includes the personified Kyon on myspace too.

I maybe totally wrong, but I tend to believe that Tanigawa-sensei is behind all the hidden comments on the main site and the posts supposedly written by "Kyon" on myspace. I'm sure there are marketing goals they are trying to accomplish, but I believe Tanigawa-sensei must have significant input before these efforts are put to public. I mean, can you imagine a random Bandai or KadoUSA employee speaking as Kyon? I can't believe Tanigawa would let just a foreign marketing person speaking as one of his prized creations without his direct creative input. I mean things like Kyon's sign, you can't just make it up. This person also knows about local Nishinomiya events and matsuri dates. I don't think this Kyon is simply a random American or Japanese employee of the licensing companies. I hold the theory that all the comments were written by Tanigawa-sensei in Japanese, and later translated by Americans. Same goes with the Kyon myspace posts. The messages may simply contain marketing idea and the dates maybe selected by the marketers, but I think the hidden comments and the posts were his words directly translated.

If that's the case, I'd say we're even luckier than the Japanese fans. They do not have a forum where they can directly communicate with members of SOS-Dan and asking them about their daily lives; we do. I'll keep testing this Kyon and see if he shows any hints of not being Japanese or not from Nishinomiya/Kansai region, just for the heck of it. Aside from waiting for DVD, this potential dialog with Haruhi's creator is what I'm most interested right now.

I'm used to anime in general being a relatively niche interest. I don't really care if it becomes popular or not.

I try to like the anime that I like, which is getting harder and harder every time I come to the AnimeSuki forums (or any forum which discusses anime, for that matter) because it's difficult to separate "liking an anime" and "being part of the fandom". For example, taking MoSH, I like it because, well, I like it, not because it is popular or trendy. If it becomes big in the US fandom, fine. If not, also fine.

I'd just rather not be automatically associated with a certain stigma just because I like the show. I've seen this happen many times already with MoSH, which is why I'd love for this forum software to have Post Ignore support or something.

Well, I was hoping for something that could ignore individual posts.

For example, I've already hit Ignore User on the people I'd rather not read any of, but it doesn't help when they get quoted in entirety later.

Site changed again. Go above the picture of Haruhi and highlight

asosbrigade.com update:

They've updated the site, it's simply asking where the new video is, and that She will do unspeakable things if it is not put. The links in the update are to weird images associated with a hard drive having been burnt out and a new one being installed. I have no idea what that's supposed to mean.

The one picture on the site now made me LOL:

http://www.asosbrigade.com/parts.html

That reminds me of myself: whenever I install a new part or upgrade something in my computer, I end up with extra screws left over. Everything works fine, but I'm too lazy to open the thing up again and figure out where the screw goes.

I always lose those PCI slot covers too....

Apparently they lost the hard drive with the video on it

You forgot to check the source code:

Don't you hate it when they do that?

And, will they change the code again in 12-14 hours??

Hmmm, this appeared recently:

Code:
-- Doctor, how is she? --
-- Her vitals appear good for now --
-- What about the prognosis --
-- I am unable to say for certain yet, it's a very difficult time --
-- Is there any hope? --
-- We really need a higher baseline reading --
-- Do not give up, we're giving her our best treatments --
-- It's all up to him now --

I wonder who got sick.
