My First Vector (Vexel)

So I decided to make a vector (err, vexel) a few weeks ago since it would offer something new to try out on my somewhat outdated Photoshop 7. A few weeks and many procrastination periods after, I finished. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. Comments/critiques are more than welcome. I'm always willing to learn.

Character: Haruhi Suzumiya
Anime: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱)
Time: Way too long. I lost count.

Oh! a Haruhi vector, let's see...

When you add colors to a vector/trace, It is always a good idea to leave the outlines layer above the ones with color. I can see a few places when the color pretty much eats the outlines, and this can be easily avoided with a proper layer arrangement.

There are some bits without color here and there, so be careful with that as well.

I am also a little puzzled by the roughness of some of the lines; Did you do everything with the pen tool?

Anyway, despite all I just said, I still think you did a very good job with your first vector. It is a million times better than what I did as my first work, and some things here can be easily corrected if you ever decided to do another one.

Good Work. Here's hoping to see more in the future.

You also get a cookie for your first vector.

Thanks a bunch for the advice! About the roughness, I'm a little puzzled too, especially at the hair.. I did do it with the pen tool, and it did turn out fine (or maybe I was delusional), I thought. Hm, maybe I could fix it by just stroking the outline?

I'll watch out for the colors, and thanks for the helpful tip regarding the outlines. I'll definitely use it in future projects.

Good job for your first vector, but you still need a lot of practice. Just to let you know the best vector software is Adobe Illustrator, it's primary job is vector art.

Let's see what you need help with, your line qualities aren't as smooth and sharp as the original. Just more practice with the pen tool should do it.
