actually just an anime full of very funny moments which happen to be executed by cute girls. its the character study, bonding, and hilarity that make it memorable.

Ichigo Mashimaro is a cute moe~ comedy for male audience.

I think its hysterical that the show is "targeted for young men" ... by and large, the most fanatical fans I've created by showing them the series are all women... but hell, I haven't found *anyone* that doesn't like it after a few episodes, it is such subversive humor (in the vein of Peanuts or Calvin).

I think the manga version is clearly more targetted for young men, compared to the anime version which is easily unisex.

I cannot wait for the OVA release!

Precisely! With Miu in it, the show is devilishly cute. Without Miu, well, I probably would have watched it for the hotty Nobue-nechan. Miu's cruelty what makes the other loli's so adorable and tingles one's fancy for cute things.

Ichigo Mashimaru lurks around my all-time top five, and I thought the first episode of the OVA was at least as good as most episodes of the series: cute, hilarious, humane, and even deep. It's the kind of comedy that somehow reconciles me with the weirdnesses of being human.

Spoiler for ep1:

They seem to have done a little more work on the backgrounds than in the series, but the animation looks just about the same. And the voice cast is just so great. Orikasa Fumiko...wow! The late scene with her and Nabatame Hitomi and Chiba Saeko was just perfectly done.

Amen to this. IM is also one of my favorites animes

As I said elsewhere, I'm very anxious to see the OVAs -- I.M. is a massive crossover hit at our house. My wife, two sons, and both their girlfriends all love it (our tastes do not normally overlap that well).

I thought everyone was going to fall out of their chairs when Miu's music video ran the first time.

ok, am I the only one who didn't enjoy the first episode of the OVA? I thought the jokes were pretty weak and too much repetition from the series...

Well, might as well add that I couldn't wait anymore and watched it raw. I usually don't do this since most of times I lack enough vocabulary to understand it completely, but Ichigo Mashimaro is certainly too much for me.

I guess who stole the show is in the eye of the beholder. Nobue is still my fave, although I guess I'd say nobody stole this show. They were all good. In fact, I thought Matsuri was more interesting than she was in the series, and Ana was excellent, too.

Spoiler for Ep 1: Miu steals the show wide and fair, definitely. And they've gotten back to the teacher vs. Miu jokes, which sum up some of the funniest moments of the original series. And the フンガー！ just before Nobue hanged up the phone made me laugh a lot, too. On the whole, this episode made me laugh a whole lot. Spoiler for Do not read if you have watched and understood ep 1 of the OVA: I really like the slice of life bits. - The scene where Nobue tries to hit 400 yen exact when topping her petrol. Nice one to show that in the hectic life we live in, small fun and happiness are to be found in little games like this in our daily activities. Too bad she missed the mark. - The scene where the definitions for tougenkyou and utopia in the dictionary refers back to each other and the girls do not know the meaning of both words. Yeah bring back memories of my schooldays when the dictionary failed me the same way. I had a nice laugh out of that scene. Oh yeah, we finally find out what happened everytime between the screen jump to Miu lying face flat on the ground. (Hint: Read the special skills column on Nobue's resume) Anyway, I prefer the TV OP to the OVA OP but hey I find the real treat is the OVA ED! It's a really beautiful song! __________________
