Well, while it's lost a lot of its original symbolism, the Statue of Liberty was once a beacon of idealism for immigrants to America.

The Eiffel Tower is a bit iffier, though it's the sole monument, save for the Arc de Triomphe, that is instantly recognizable as a landmark of France.

In a way, this could be a list of man-made landmarks that are instantly recognizable and attributable to a country. Whittle that list down to landmarks that are awe-inspiring in sight and/or were engineering marvels, and you have this list. Though of course, it's arguable.

Currently there's no developements on this. No new wonder added to the list, just to update ya. Though you only have 222 days and 18 hours left to vote.

I think that The Pyramids of Giza again deserves to be in the new wonder. Natural materials that can withstand thousands of years of destruction and disaster.

Happy Voting.

They really should just extend the Pyramids of Giza to include the Sphinx. The Sphinx is sorta included since it's so close, but it's not mentioned by name in the actual "wonder". Really deserves it though, it's a wondrous, ancient image.

I still don't see why there can only be 7 wonders of the world, there's thousands of things I, and I'm sure other people, find wonderful. Ahh cutting it down to just 7 is so restrictive y'know? :P

Really surprised that I was the only vote for Hagia Sophia, which was the most glorious building in europe for a thousand years.

Would have put the Vatican as another one, that includes all the buildings and artwork in it.

I agree while the two buildings are impressive they don't really belong to the same categorie as Angkor, the Pyramids or the Great Wall. But I guess it's a matter of opinion.

The Hagia Sophia almost made it to my vote. The interior architecture is beautiful, but the outside is ugly as hell, especially in recent years.

Sean Connery? I think he should make one last james bond movie and retire (for real).

Azrael_Azure - you gotta have a limit for things such as that. Having 100 wonders of the world isn't much of a name.

I already voted at new7wonders. It's gonna be announced on 7.7.07. That's a good date. And that's also the date that they're gonna release the 7th Harry Potter book, I think. That's a good date for that too.

Because the purpose of this list is the crass commercial objective of improving tourism. You can't yet take a plane or boat to the internet and spend your money in its gift shop. If only the internet had a gift shop then it would qualify.

Personally i still haven't voted for any of the monuments yet or will I ever. I think to classify just 7 wonder to be more amazing or awwed than the others is being ignorant to others culture. This is why I won't choose just or just 1.
