Need Adobe Premiere help

Just trying to fiddle around with Premiere to get use to the features. Had it for a while but recently a problem occured.

The problem is that recently the screen on the right won't show anything or will just show static snow (marked by the red circles). The clips I was using was .avi by the way.

When I convert the clips to .wmv, it played fine. So I'm asking, why is it having problems with .avi now?

The clip was .avi but what was the video encoded in? If it was XviD, do you have the stand-alone XviD codec on your computer? I don't believe that FFDShow would work for media programs like this. You'll need the full codec corresponding to what you have.

I remember a similar thing with After Effects, where WMV files just seemed a lot easier to work with (either that or it was the reverse). I think Adobe products may come bundled with an internal WMV codec. If you have proper stand-alone codec support on your system, it should be OK.

Oh well crap.

Read the attachment and it says [l33t-raws]Higurashi_No_Naku_Koro_Ni_05_(704x396_DivX521).[42CACF38]

Now what can I do to remedy this?

And why did it work before?
