question on .ogm files

I've recently been downloading .ogm files of anime off of another site (I still love this site don't get me wrong). Can anyone tell me what an .ogm file is and do you know if VLC media player can play it back?
Thank you!

This belongs in Playback help (if it weren't answered a dozen or so times already)

There's a list of filters required in theMedia Configuration Guide

here is a link to the a major provider of ogm files.

I'm getting a little tired here. Please, read the rules as you CAN NOT post or give away anything related to licensed anime.. here. --Flash_Squirrel

An .ogm file is a container like avi or mkv. Most of the time an ogm file is composed of an xvid/divx video stream plus one or more ogg vorbis audio stream and possibly a srt subtitle stream. Videolan should be able to play them just fine.
