Crisis Core was the main reason why I got mine. (anticipation)

Yes you can play import games, it's not region protected.

I heard it's possible but why would you (play it on a monitor).

You can watch movies on there, I'm not fully sure which format but I know mp4 is ok.

It'll only work with hard sub. Not too sure about soft though.

I haven't used mine to watch any movies.

EDIT:

If you meant are they visible? I'll give it a try and see. Nvm... too much work.

if there hard encoded in a avi file
then just convert it to MP4
I perfer jMEnc2 as a mp4 converter, and its free

as for separate sub files, you have to go through a lot of work of converting, then reconverting ect ... via VirtualDUB mod and AVIsynth

I dont really watch videos on it
I mainly play homebrew, emu's and such

Soft-subbed anime will also work, if you follow this guide: http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=47693
Just replace "PS3 Video 9" with "PSP Video 9" (Google it).

Also make sure to install the latest firmware (v3.40) as that'll finally allow you to encode video in the native resolution (480x272) and copy them easily to the \VIDEO\ folder on your PSP (when plugged into a PC, a PSP works like a USB memory stick).

But yeah, there's lots of uses for a PSP. I used it as a walkthrough for FF1 on my DS once, by putting the walkthrough from GameFAQs (.txt file) in the root folder of the PSP and browsing to it using the PSP Browser (URL: file://ff1.txt). Then I put the FF1 world map in the picture folder. Really useful for on de road, albeit using two consoles at the time is a bit odd.

(I've done the opposite thing as well btw, when playing Sakura Wars [J] on the PSP I used my DS to look up kanji using Kanji sono mama)

You guys do know you can also convert your old playstation games and just play it off of your psp drive. Give you a chance to revisit those oldies. My favorite FF7, tactic and Rival School.

@Rebecca Chambers

It really depends on your style of games. You don't want us to recommend you fighting games when you're into rpg or fps right.

... "converting your old playstation games" is only possible if you're willing to go the illegal route. FF7 isn't available from the PlayStation store (for PS3) yet, as far as I know, for example. The "illegal route" requires installation of unofficial firmware, which if not installed properly could permanently screw up your PSP.

And the people that download such custom firmware and don't have a clue what the risks are and what to look for, but still go ahead and flash their brand new shiny PSP: a brand new very shiny, very expensive paperweight.

Very good advice you give there..

I have in my posession 4 PSP's of friends of mine who have flashed their psp's with such "easy installers".. I can now install undiluted chips in them to make them work again.

Just because it is called "easy installer" doesn't automatically mean it works every time, especially when left to people that don't really know what they're doing.

Well if you own the playstation game already I don't see the problem with it. It's almost like backing up your dvds (noted that's illegal as well). I don't know about you but I would like to push my psp to it's full potential.

The risks we take for the things we love. Life is all about choices and risks, if you're not sure about an installations of something, it's best to drop by a forum and ask. If that doesn't help you could always ask the dev, they'll email back (promise).

I find that hard to believe
hundreds of people have claimed it works fine
except for the person who messed around with the installer and files
I even used it, it works fine

I dont see how hard it is to click a .exe and wait for it to transfer to your psp drive
then start the eboot on your psp, and let it install and your done

but come to think of it
some one did create a easy installer that all it did was brick
so i think that those people got a hold of it and used it
but after a few days the easy installer was taken off the web site
