Ah yes, you need to install a non-unicode Japanese font (a different kind of font than the one you already installed). I made a post about that early last year here. Once you download and copy a font (from the website in the earlier link) to the Windows/Fonts folder, then start Shuffle in AppLocale Japanese mode, and access the System Configuration window (second menu, second-last item). From there select the second tab (font), and you should see the font in the list of choices. When you click the font, you should see Japanese characters show up in the preview window. Click OK, and you should be good to go. If you have more questions about it, please feel free to post in the Shuffle game thread.

err...don't tell me you are playing without any translation ? (at least, AFTH and a babelfish like translation) you will have hard time to go through, except if you use each keyword like a madman...

well, in case you don't know how Really Zone works :
in said situation, Kaede said something completely false.
you must select the sentence where the error lies, and use a keyword which will correct her statement.

thus, you must at least understand (not enterly at 100%) what she is saying and what are the keywords for.
thus, playing this game randomly won't really be that funny...

Just saw the intro. The music for it has potential to be used in other applications, since it's quite good (despite me preferring J-rock, some of the guitar work in the song got me listening).

there isn't any translation for RiaRia.
you either :
1) have a decent japanese level.
2) get help from someone else
3) use AGTH (a freeware which "extract" text, which can be copy pasted), and a translation site/soft which can translate copy pasted text.

Spoiler for Drawing themes from Shuffle! anime?!?:

Anyone notice they were drawing some things from the anime for this sequel even though some of those elements don't appear when going through Kaede's path in the original game?
For example, having long-haired Asa in RR screams "PLOT HOLE!" since in the only time Asa's hair grows to that length is when she uses up her magic in order to save Rin (anime and Asa path only), and RR is based on Kaede's path. BTW, the VN.net review of RR got something really wrong. RR takes place around Oct/nov 2004, which is basically a month or 2 after Shuffle! ends, not a whole bloody year after. Listen to the voice samples on Navel's RR site for more details

Well, the game takes place in the canon future of Kaede's path, but most of the game content takes place in Kaede's messed up memories after the accident. Which means, most of the actual scenes in the game never really happened. There are few points that got expounded on in the game that were also featured in the anime, but I wouldn't necessarily say they were drawing themes, since the basis of the anime was almost all in the original game itself. They were on the production committee for the anime anyway.

I forget off-hand when the game (as in the first 10 minutes, since most of the rest of the game is in "memories") actually takes place in the timeline. It really isn't a major deal, though; for all intents and purposes, it could just as easily be "some time later" down Kaede's path. The important stuff is what is and isn't real about the past; hence the title.

I think that's the answer you're looking for...?

There's no translation patch for the interface, but I suppose you should be able to figure out most of the options by trial-and-error. The basic interface is still pretty straightforward. As a general rule for Visual Novels, there aren't patches for anything.
