Alternative IRC

What is a good alternative irc than mirc? The reason is that mirc freezes on me when i try to download off bots. i am using xp.

I've been using Miranda IM as an all-in-one so I can be on IRC, Yahoo, MSN, etc at the same time; iirc you'll have to d/l the separate irc protocol dll on their site. Miranda's got its own quirks but I'm not going back to mIRC. Not sure if there's a workaround for that mIRC "dccserver +59" port trick, but that tends to be for fservs.

Freezing might be caused by other things though, like network card drivers.

I've used IceChat. for chat purposes only though, and that works. I'm still yet to try d/l stuff with it. I'm a bt pressed for time ATM so I can't go through this thread for you but it may have some other alternatives as well. http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=36280

Try HydraIRC and/or X-Chat 2. I tried the latter, and well it was very good for basic stuff with many available scripts for it.
