Yes, it very much is. However, the cast is almost completely different from the original (and the setting even more so).

No, this scene isn't affected by anything, you just have to unlock it.
You can actually have it unlocked without doing any profile in DR1.

Finished the game today. That was truly excellent. I loved the "cartoon" feel of the game. Pretty much everything about it was crazy: the character design, the villain, the setting. And yet it was very serious and tragic at the same time. The notion of despair was definitely present.

I wish the cases had been a bit harder (some of them were ridiculously easy), but they were really well-thought and it was always satisfying to solve them. The main flaw of the game lies in the free time events. There is a ridiculously low amount of them, requiring the player to replay the first chapters tons of times in order to get to know the characters better, which I believe is important. It would have made the player feel even more despair to see characters he got to know very well die.

As for the plot...

My favorite case was the second one. I think it was the hardest because of Togami's interference. The death that hit me the hardest was Sakura. I loved that character and her death was really moving. She sacrificed herself for the sake of her friends.

Some of the final revelations were pretty far-fetched (selective amnesia, the world ending, a bunch of students being the last hope of the world) but as I said, the game is pretty cartoony so it's not all that hard to accept. The game didn't even attempt to provide an explanation (when asked about the amnesia, Junko basically answered "whatever, let's just say I hypnotized you or cut into your brain"). I actually liked how nuts and unexpected it was. Who could have guessed it during the early chapters?

Monokuma/Junko was a fantastic villain. That girl's got more than a few screws loose. The final trial was incredibly entertaining thanks to her. Wish we got to see her more... such a shame she had to die right after being introduced.

The open ending was fitting. You can only hope they're going to be okay.

On a completely different note, I can't believe Hagakure managed to survive the game. The guy was dumb as a brick. We had to have a nonstop debate just to convince him Kirigiri wasn't a ghost
How did he event get in Kibogamine in the first place? He's an idiot and his super high school talent is a complete fraud. He felt really out of place.
