I'm really impressed by this, it's a gigantic technical leap that the series always desperately needed. Black & White were a start but they were nowhere near this level. A third-person view instead of an overhead/fixed camera view is very different too.
I'll be choosing Froakie as my starter, because noone seems to like him and he's the least cutesy one. Just judging from the two legendaries at this point I'll probably get Y version since I like that one more. Though that's due to change.

So yeah, dibs on Fennekin, since in my heart, it's saying that they'll use the legend of Ifrit for its evolutions. Also, according to speculations: Based on the attacks the starters used on their opponents (Night Slash, Psywave, Close Combat), all 3 starters may become dual types, Grass/Dark, Fire/Psychic, and Water/Fighting. Also, like Tokkan said, the legendaries are most-likely based on dimensional axes.

That's generation 4. I imagine he was referring to the generation 5 starters; Serperior, Emboar and Samurott.
This is probably my favorite artwork so far: Spoiler for Pokemon Y:
Need more of this awesomeness.~

Isn't Blaziken one as well? That guy was pretty broken back when I was still playing pokemon online.

The Water/Steel and Swampert are already OU (or used to be). I'd be cool with just UU level of viability. Charizard, Venusaur, pre-Dream World Blaziken, Sceptile, Feraligatr, and maybe Blastoise are all high enough in UU that they can be used in OU without too much detriment. At least, they used to be, not sure if they still are post Dream World. But I wouldn't even use the Gen V starters in UU.

I'm curious how different the versions are going to be. Gen I through Gen IV it was just the Pokemon, but Gen V and Gen V.2 gave each unique areas that could actually have an impact. I'm not sure which method I prefer between the two.

You do realize that for every generation since the beginning there's been a separately released 3rd version that supposedly "combines" the two previous ones? (Though gen. 5 didn't. It was more of a continuation than an alternative.)
I can already speculate there's likely going to be a third one a while after called "Z version". So I have to agree the naming is a reference for this being the first main Pokemon titles to fully enter the 3D plane.
