Looks like kishi is going to add more attractive and interesting female characters to the manga with the Kage Summit. He's been on a roll since Samui and Karui.

The Mizukage is a woman, but Kisame referred to Madara as the Mizukage...
Meaning that she's either new, or Kisame is old as fuck

It was later retconed in the volumes that Madara was the Former MizuKage....

. The moment Kishimoto adds a pinch of diversity (darker coloured skin), all of a sudden I am interested in his female characters again...

That being said, I agree that Kishimoto has been on a roll lately with good looking character designs. There are still some problems (missing arm-pits, weird waistlines/crotch-lines, etc), but overall he has certainly stepped up to the plate in recent months.

No, Madara was always a former Mizukage, even the original chapter had Kisame change his statement from Madara-sama to Madara-san to indicate that Madara was not in charge anymore. But, since some had problems understanding the change in honorific, Kishimoto altered the dialogue slightly to indicate that Madara was the former-Mizukage.

Kisame is 32 (3 years older than Zabuza (died at 26) who challenged the Mizukage sometime in the 3-5 years before his death), and considering that he has a strong connection to Suigetsu (who is only 16), we can assume that Kisame became a missing-nin sometime in the past decade (or so).

I don't believe Madara is a former Mizukage. I think he changes his appearance according to the person viewing him.

Naruto would probably see him has Jiraiya.

It think it's only happens when he removes him mask, which is why Itachi made it so if he attempted to show Sasuke his face, he'd get burned... literally. Hence, why he only shows his face in private and isolated from others.

Total speculation of course.

@Phenomenal: You know me, I love a good strong woman in my manga series, so I am ecstatic that there is another woman Kage. True she seems to be more comical than anything right now, but I am still happy to see another woman in a position of supreme power. Since she at least defeated and drove out Zabuza, here's hoping she is at least more powerful than Kakashi (hoping she is stronger than Kisame seems like wishful thinking, but I can still hope she is stronger than Kakashi). In the end, as so long as she isn't another Konan (looks cool, but gets defeated with some Toad spit, and then seemingly never does anything worthwhile ever again), then she will have a new fan

I guess she really is stronger than Kisame and I hope she can live up to my highest hopes – a kage level female battle-type ninja.
