I think it's rather that the MC is permanently in super-deformed mode, for whatever odd reason.
Sora no Otoshimono also had the mc frequently appear in SD mode.

It would have been hilarious in it's own way if they kept his height below skirt level for the entire season, but it's not that type of series. You know...despite what every description of him is Haruyuki's fatness is kinda cute...in the walking soft toy kind of way....

Really? If I look on the character page of the official homepage, he's still as super-deformed as before, with his eyes at the height of the girl's skirts, and about half the size of the other guy there:

Difference is even in his deformed form the MC of SnO doesn't look fat,not to mention the female lead Ikaros also appears deformed from time to time.

I really hope that's not the case, because that is the only quip I have as far as character design goes beck from the announcement artworks.

I mean yeah, he is short and fat in LN and I find that interesting for a main character, but there's no point to chibi-fied him.

Here is a quick mock-up I threw together, which is close to the scale in the anime.

Clarification: After skipping through the prescreen which someone ripped from niconico live, it seems there is actually quite a bit of inconsistency in his height during the first two episodes. Sometimes he is skirt level as shown on the official website, other times he's the same height as my mock-up. When watching the b-ch pre-screen, the few screenshots I took of him next to Chiyuri and Kuroyukihime just so happened to be his taller height, but his short height seems just as common if not more so. I wonder if that is actually intended, or the animators are just having difficulty standardizing the correct height/weight ratio between the designs of the other characters and his short stature. I'd assume the latter, and the intention was to actually have him very short the entire time.

I saw the anime in the night, and my impressions are that it has great potential, by history, although it is too early to draw conclusions.
about the main character Haruki many people identify with him because he suffers bullying and thanks a friend, he came out of that problem
