I think the whole eyes wide shut thing is getting most of the attention, but it's actually the B story here - the headline is what happened between Hinata and Asahi. Hinata wanting to run the quick with his eyes open is just a component of his real desire, which is to assume the role of ace and star of the team (even if he doesn't fully realize yet that he want to do it).

It's actually common sense that he wants to run that quick with his eyes open, every competitive sportsman wants to get better, and depending on the skill of others at the level Hinata depends on Kageyama is not the way to improve.
Also, yeah, ofc he wants to be the ace, and from what we've seen, he has what he needs to be exactly that, the ace, the third years will be gone very soon, so someone needs to step up as the star anyway.

Episode 6:

Lol, I like that Ukai guy already. He is sarcastic but means well for Hinata to get stronger. Plus, a nickname like "Shrimpy" fits for him :P

Good focus about the game mechanics of this series.
I find the realism to be quite fitting with the way they are teaching Hinata especially about tempo. Seems like he is getting better too as shown in the latter half of the episode.

Can't wait to see Hinata put his skills to the test later on!

It's ironic that Hinata ends up doing what Kageyama and the team wanted him to do in the first place, that is polishing his basic.

In the meanwhile, Kageyama is training for a toss that's even easier to hit by Hinata than normal quick. I feel that this toss might be useful for feint too, though I'm not knowledgeable about volleyball.

Hinata wasn't just polishing his basics but he was learning how to spike the way he wanted to but the others, especially Kageyama, was holding him back from doing that. Both Ukai and that other player whom Kageyama talked to felt the same way I felt last ep; that they should have supported Hinata when he expressed his will to improve. Just like Neko's coach's opinion that they needed to evolve or they won't ever win.

Well that was a nice episode this week.

We got most of the guys working hard and enjoying the fun of playing volleyball except for Tsukishima. Hope we find out more about his background story soon. Mm, I'm kinda hungry for some watermelons after this episode.

So there are some internal rivalries going on, which isn't a bad thing. But, for some reason, the rivalry I saw between Tsukki and Azumane with Hinata doesn't feel like a very healthy rivalry among teammates. Azumane, understandably, wants to keep his Ace position, and Tsukki wants to keep his more superior position, but if Hinata is better (or will be better) then they will have to accept that and step aside. I just feel like they are all vying to be the best but are losing the team spirit in their pursuit to level-up individually.

Tsukki? Rivalry? The episode was about how Tsukki considers Hinata to better/more gifted than him at volleyball and has no desire to compete anyone or put in extra effort to improve himself. He'll do as much as his position as a regular requires and nothing more.

Episode 8:

It's interesting to see more of Tsukki's past and his logic about volleyball. I think that his thoughts about "someone always better out there" is a bit flawed. I mean, it is true but I don't think playing volleyball is always about being the best.

Good characterization this episode.

Loved some of the facial expressions especially Koutarou. The "Sun vs. Moon" reference (Tsukki vs. Hinata) is nice too.

I totally feel sorry for Tsukki's brother. I can understand how painful and sad he must be, trying so hard, yet all that effort doesn't pay off because, frankly, training alone can never make you better than someone who's naturally born/gifted with the ability. It's the sad fact of life.

Now we know why Tsuki can be a bit of a pain at times...was that Sakurai as the brother? The backstory with Yamaguchi was really cute too and explained a lot.

I lol'd at 'Oya?' 'OYA OYA' Bokuto's loud as hell but he means well

Tsukki's backstory with his brother reminded me of last season's montage of all the schools nationwide that lost during the tournaments. What he said is true. There's always someone better than you at some aspect and there is no guarantee that his team will win it all.

His brother's lies molded his realistic view on things - notice how one of the other school's players shared his viewpoint. And yes, in the grand scheme of things, it is a high school sports club, but the flip side of it is that if it's fun, it's something worth putting one's heart and soul into.

I think that's what Bokuto and Kuroo were trying to tell him and even Yamaguchi.

Lol, the heights comparion

Interesting episode. Pacing felt somewhat slow but seems like everyone is still practicing hard. Hinata and Kageyama has such an unique chemistry.
