Fairy Tail Anime Episode Discussion Thread [Episode 165 and Onward]

A common running theme I find we really need an explanation for, is where the hell do all the fairy tail members get their magical energy from? In every major battle the pattern is the same: The villain is overpowering them, beats them up really rough, the villain gives them a reason to start hating on them, they fire up and find the energy.

Now this is just me, but the biggest bullshit so far, is erza activating second origin. First of all, no one has managed to do that in ages, due to the amount of magic it reguires. Where did erza suddenly find all this magical energy to activate second origin? she was pretty much beaten up to the point where she could barely get up and suddenly she has the energy to activate an incredibly powerfull spell that reguires magical energy beyond comprehension? Where does all this power come from?

But Second Origin in itself IS a mana boost. Activating it basically unlocks the users "full" mana potential (quotes because in Shounen there's always more ). And to top it off Second Origin had already been unlocked before the magic games started, it was just a matter of actually using it.

About Erza: Dextro said it, she had already had it unlocked before the games' first day, she just hadn't used it until then because she was THAT damn strong.

Natsu and Gajeel can assimilate elements into their own mana pool; Natsu has taken fire (naturally) and lightning (supposedly didn't hurt because it was gifted to him by Laxus?). Gajeel somehow mimicked that and stole Future!Rogue's shadow element...yeeeeeah

Wendy eats air. 'nuff said. Everyone else is just hogging the friendship tree of plot!

The fight we were waiting for: Natsu vs Rogue!
Guess that one was inevitable.
Loved the Shadow Dragon Mode.
Shame Natsu wasn't strong enough..
What was with the sinking in shadow part?
Hope he isn't crossing to the dark side.
Eclipse cannon countdown started.
They have the cannon & all the wizards against the dragons.
What could possibly go wrong?
Of course Rogue has to be right.
Wonder what possessed Lucy to act like that.
Can't wait to see how it'll play out next time!

I just wanted to clarify for you but it wasn't second origin that required huge of amounts of magic to activate, but rather the armor she was using. (Its name escapes me at the moment).

Second Origin was the explanation as to how she was able to wear the armor which no one has done in a long time. Though logically speaking we can conclude 'no one' means magicians specializing in the same magic requipping as Erza. Since there should be a few magicians like Jura, Laxus, the rest of the 10 wizard saints and even the guild masters themselves who should have the magic required to wear the armor.

What was really amazing about this to me was the fact second origin wasn't activated earlier given her state, I assumed she was running on empty but like someone else said, she's just that strong. After thinking back about it you can see that Erza wasn't the first to do this either. Juvia referenced second origin when she performed a magic attack in that huge water bubble they were fighting in before the show went on a break.

Have to say the one thing I had hoped a bit to see was actually Loke snapping as much as Natsu. Sure it's not the present Lucy, but considering Lucy saved his life and everything you'd think he'd have been right in there ready to fight. Instead just conveniently shoved offscreen with Eclipse as an excuse. If he couldn't approach it wouldn't it make more sense to double back and assist in beating Rogue into the dirt?

Sure, getting Lucy to safety was also a concern, but as soon as he got too close to Eclipse he wasn't going to be able to do anything to help there anyways.

This episode was disappointing. I feel like they dragged the entrance a little too much but I guess it works because next episode will be very good

So Lucy was right after all.
Opening the portal was the worst possible thing they could've done.
They just made things worse.
Seems like it's better not to know the future.
Trying to fix it just led to the outcome they were trying to stop.
Lucy was the only one not frozen by shock.
The dragons are here, deal with it!!
Only 7 though, but still.
Luckily, you do have some dragon slayers. Use them!
Damn, didn't think celestial magic would be the one to close the gate.
Future Rogue really was the evil one.
Things are sure gonna be interesting from now on.

The animation goes from amazing to meh so fast now, but I guess if it was always amazing then there's no way they could keep it going weekly (assuming they do).

I like the episode, they animate two chapters from the manga, but I think that they are going to extend the fight with the Dragons and Rogue.
