Why Will Smith refused to reprise his role as Capt. Steven Hiller.
So, it seems he is tired of sequels & sci-fi. That After Earth dud, certainly doesn't help .


Also, this news is older but we now have an actual title for the sequel. It's called: Independence Day: Resurgence

Synopsis:

"We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. Still a mistery, at least until we see the trailer. Someone suggests that he will be some kind of alien's puppet in the movie. I guess we'll see.

humanity reverse engineering alien technology from the fallen mother ships & even (re)built cities around or inside it, where have i heard of this before? but the fighter jets cannot transform into robots or some pop idol singing in the background........

Yep, I knew it. This ID4 sequel will be the American version of SDF Macross. Make the fighters transformable into Gerwalk & Battroid and America will no longer need that Robotech live-action movie .

To be honest I'm okay with Will Smith not being in it. No Will Smith means no Jaden Smith.

Supposedly, the black guy seen in the trailer will be Hiller's son, presumably taking up the same role Hiller did back in the first movie.
