I'm liking this. I do think things happen. They just happen in very small ways, lol. I loved how they got all the way through the afternoon without Komari realizing who she was.
I'm enjoying the fairly unknown Murakawa Rie as Hotaru. And the weirdness of Koiwai Kotori as Renge is settling in for me. Good stuff. EDIT: I've made a characters/seiyuus page for this show.

Yes, it's supposed to be amusing that Komari is a little slow for never picking up on it, but it's also supposed to be amusing that Hotaru was so desperate to appear mature for her "date" with her senpai that she changed herself to drastically that Komari couldn't recognize her. Quote:

It might be because of Kana Asumi, but this episode gave me some serious Working!! vibes. Komari reminds me of Poplar a lot, and Hotaru's infatuation with her tiny senpai is reminiscent of Takanashi.
That was a very sweet episode. Komari and Hotaru's date was highly amusing. Hotaru attempted to impress her senpai by acting like a grown-up and was more successful than she could have ever imagined

Komari's adult dress isn't adult-looking at all. I love her close-up shots. She is not my favorite.
The whole cast needs to go to Tokyo. At least on the last episode. I didn't read the manga but does Hotaru have a "townsick" chapter? The show, for now, is too happy and peaceful for a SoL. Not that I like it to turn gridmark or anything. |

This sentence is an oxymoron. You cannot be too happy and peaceful for a slice of life show. The entire purpose of a slice of life show is to be happy and peaceful. This is healing anime. Its purpose is to calm and relax those who watch it.

The term iyashikei is being thrown around way too generously is the only thing I'm gonna say on that matter ...
As for the episode, I think I'm allergic to school settings and yuri. I mean, there are dozens of cute-girls-doing-cute-things-with-a-dash-of-yuri-type shows. I wish they would focus more on the rural setting, since that's what sets this show's brand from the rest. That being said, the latter half of the episode was fine. The visit to the candy store and walk through the rice fields are things that establish the type of sensibility I'm looking for. One thing that made me worry though ... Koma-chan demonstrated just how easy it is for child molesters to take advantage of little girls like her. These types of shows are the real danger to children everywhere! |

I did love that episode, I was wondering if there'd be a Clark Kent moment when Hotaru took off her glasses and suddenly Koma-chan recognised her, but she stayed clueless to the end.
I liked the fact that Koma-chan had to use a callbox to phone Hotaru. It was a nice indication of just how much in the back of beyond they really are if there's no mobile reception! At least the one guy got a proper introduction this time. |

I was worried that Onii-chan would remain a faceless, butt-monkey joke character throughout the entire anime. Well, he's probably going to continue to be a butt-monkey, but at least he now has a face. He was barely noticeable in the classroom in the first episode (I didn't even notice him during my first viewing of the episode), and only stood out when he was standing in the hole in the hallway. |

That aside, I really loved this episode! Had a smile on my lips most of the time and even got a couple chuckles in, but damn, Hotaru's thought process is very, very odd. |
