very true
japanese seems a lot more poetic that english (which is really just a combination of a bunch of different dead/old languages) so it sounds better when spoken quickly (also they have an onomotopoeia for EVERYTHING in japanese...something english translators have a difficult time translating directly sometimes)

Hum, I'd imagine Japanese flows better because it's just noise to you. I'm surpised nobody mentioned Kare Kano. The dub owns on that.

Best dub of all time?

Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. is without a doubt the undisputed champ in my mind. out of all the animes i have seen, gits sac is the only one that i would rather watch in english. nothing is lost in this translation, allowing you to admire the magnificant animation instead of reading subtitles

Fatal Error: "Good" and "dub" cannot occur in the same sentence
(concerning English anime dubs at least)

That depends...If we are talking about English dub, of any kind of Dub outside the original Language.

I have to say that the best Dub I have seen, was for the Movie Ninja Scroll in Spanish, I like it more than the original Language.

In English I loved the second Vampire Hunter D Movie, But referring to Anime series, Dub in Spanish Have, IMO, more quality than the ones made in English (Like DBZ, Samurai X, Saint Seiya,....Pokemon).

Well, FMA, for me is a Good DUB in English, but, I have not found the taste for English Dub.

I don't think I can say there is a "best dub of all time", at least for me, but I really enjoyed the dubs for Samurai Champloo and Paranoia Agent. I'd actually rather watch the dubs than subs, in those cases.

hmm.. i'd have to say i really liked the dub to Those Who Hunt Elves. not because it stuck to the original, but because they took the point of the anime, and made it jsut as funny to english speaking people as it was to the japanese originally. different cultures, differnet humor.when i first started watching anime i thought this show was completely ROFL.. as the years went by and i learned more and found fan subs, i rewatched this show on DVD in japanese with original subs. Some of it isn't near as funny since i don't get everything. but i at least know enough to get some of the more common references.

do i think this shouldbe sometihng that is done a lot? gods no.. and i ALWAYS want the original audio track with faithfull subs.

i havne't started buying the SAC 2nd Gig yet, but i was VERY impressed with the 1st seasons dub. i've seen both seasons fansubbed and i agree that season 1 were done well. best ever? dunno about that...

This thread is about the best dubs, not a dub/sub comp. If you have nothing to offer than leave

Anyways I think the best dubs I ve seen are : Rahxephon, NGE, Fmp and Last exile.

FMP and Gunslinger Girl. Where else do you do a dub so well you make the English VA's sing a Japanese Anime in Italian? Bad Italian but it still is another language.

I absolutely love the dubbed versions of:

Master of Mosquiton OVA-adv
Shinesman-animeworks
Puni Puni Poemi-adv
Full Metal Panic Fumoffu-adv
Gensoumaden Saiyuki-adv
Princess Tutu-adv
Maze Mega-burst Space (except for male Maze's voice-EEEK >_<)-animeworks
Nightwalker-u.s. manga

What a coincidence that most of these were by ADV. Why? Cause ADV's THE BEST!! =D

...and I can't believe I'm saying this, but all I saw of Galaxy Angel's dub was a trailer and I INSTANTLY liked Mille's voice way way WAY more than the Japanese one....>_>;; but I stopped trusting Bandai after their horrendous
Saber Marionette J catastrophe....*shudders* That was AWFUL.

I haven't heard many dubs, but overall I thought these were good...

Gundam Wing
Cowboy Bebop
Last Exile
Ghost in the Shell:SAC
Blue Submarine No.6
Hellsing

And as much as I like Jouji Nakata, I think Crispin Freeman's voice fits Alucard to a T. The same goes for Steven Blum as Spike. Those are the only two instances where I thought the English VAs were as good as, or better, then the Japanese VAs.

Most of the dubs by Bandai now really stink (Gundam SEED and what not).

Cowboy Bebop
Last Exile
Planetes
Gundam 0083
RahXephon

Some others...

On that note... XD

Worst Dub Ever::

Gravitation

First of all, Cowboy Bebop of course, it's a masterpiece. I like it a lot more than the original japanese one. The second one goes to Excel Saga (yes I know, 99% of the anime fans disagree with me :P), I like it as well. The third one goes to the FUNimation uncensored version of DBZ. It is not *that* great, but the japanese dub purely sucks IMO (I mean come on, Goku sounds like a girl...).
