A "logical" reason for polygamy would be if a large number of men were killed off making the women outnumber them by a fair number.

The usual reason for it is to take the enemies women and use them to out breed him, and/or to repopulate after a war.

I don't know what state the Libyan population is in, but in light of the planet having 7 billion people, I honestly think these sort of steps are unneeded in todays world.

But yeah, like I said that tends to happen when swinging from one extreme end to the other. What I'm simply saying is that the point on the other side of the specturm they've fallen on is far less extreme than the one that was previously in place and it can be improved upon with time.
we can only hope.

Personally though I think there's more credibility to my argument than mere hope, but maybe not...

Anyway, Al-Nahda win the Tunisian election:

I'm sorry, can you provide examples of modern democracies where such an unequality's actually codified in law? The only ones I can think of is military service for men (which isn't that widespread, or that long).

Another reason would be if polygamy's practised with religious marriages without their civil counterparts. It would give a legal status to secondary wives and their children for matters of inheritance, divorce and such.

But if that's an issue, it doesn't speak well for the Lybian people either.

If I recall, polygamy is normal in older Islamic tradition. Four wives is it? I would imagine several men and maybe even a few women might be put out that they cannot do that in Westernized countries. It would be like taking away a status symbol I suppose. But then we no longer need to breed like rabbits like they did when those laws and traditions were established.

I'm not 100% sure but aren't LGBT issues still a problem in certain democracies?

Anyway that was actually a mistake. I meant to say "didn't", rather than "don't".

Actually, the announcement of Sharia Law was a nice tactic move for the NTC. What's the immediate danger after defeating Gaddafi? A civil war between all the factions of the rebels. For example, the NTC has little control over the fighters from Misrata. So by adopting the Sharia law, the NTC captures the political high ground. Anyone who oppose them is anti-muslim. That's the last thing one want to be accused of in a Arab country. Another example of such political move is the revelation that about 50 Gaddafi loyalists are executed (hint hint: by the misrata fighters). Don't you wonder why NTC allows such news to All of them weakens the ground of Misrata and force them to negotiation tables.

Now, i have nothing against Islam and have limit understand about it to make judgement. However let's just say Rick Perry win the race to the white house, and he then adopt Christian Law as the foundation for the new Republic government. It should sounds pretty good for a country with 76% population Christian, and currently under some degrees of political division (in theory at least) isn't it? Not close enough? How about a civil war break out in US, and Rick Perry lead the people, and win the race to the white house, and he then adopt Christian Law as the foundation for the new government? Still does not feel right..? How's about if we suddenly found that Abraham Lincoln nearly adopted Christian Law as the foundation for the US constitution after the civil war?

Since we knows enough about the US, it definitely will be a bad move. Now i do not say Lybia just messed itself up... (or will not say yet). I just want to mention that, if it's the only excuse, it's not good enough

No, I am not advocating for such an action. I merely want to find the rational behind it. I see that it has short term advantages and deep and long term consequences.

The book recounts a meeting between the pair, in November 1983, where Gates revealed his firm was developing a new operating system with a graphic interface.
A furious Jobs said to him: 'I trusted you, and now you're stealing from us'. To which Gates replied: 'Well, Steve... I think it's more like we both had this rich neighbour named Xerox and I broke into his house to steal the TV set and found out you had already stolen it.'

That's probably my biggest annoyance with Steve Jobs is his revisionist fantasy of history. Almost everything about Apple directly descends from XEROX or Unix/X-windows and other historical precursors.

Some would just use a single word for this: opportunity.

Anonymous set to destroy Fox News

Quote:
An attack on Fox News from the hacker group Anonymous has been a longtime coming. Now the collective says that an infiltration on the website for the Fair and Balanced news network will occur next month with Operation Fox Hunt slated for November 5.
An operative with the hacktivist group Anonymous narrates a video posted to the Web on October 22 that announces that an all-out attack on the Fox News website will come next month as retaliation for the network’s unjust attack on protesters with the Occupy Wall Street movement.
“Since they will not stop ridiculing the occupiers, we will simply shut them down,” says the digitzed voice in the recent YouTube clip. “Fox News, your time has come . . . Operation Fox Hunt. November 5th. May the hunt begin,” the narrator adds.
November 5 has already been designated by members of the growing Occupy Wall street movement as a practical holiday, with “Operation Cashback” expected to occur then across the world. Under that initiative, demonstrators are asked to close bank accounts across the globe and move money out of large banks and into smaller, local credit unions. Protesters aligned with the Occupy movement have already staged small cashback-style closures in branches across the United States, with an attempt at closing accounts at a Lower Manhattan Citibank earlier this month resulting in the arrest of several occupies.
When Fox News first began coverage of Occupy Wall Street — inarguably a bit too late — their coverage was light-hearted and laughable. Fox host Megyn Kelly called a young female protester’s response to being pepper-sprayed by an unprovoked NYPD officer an “overreaction,” and as recently as October 25, an article on FoxNews.com describes the movement, now in its second month, as being engaged by “a ‘red army’ of radicals seeking no less than to provoke a new, definitive economic crisis, with their goal being the full collapse of the U.S. financial system, with the ensuing chaos to be rebuilt into a utopian socialist vision.”
Fox host Geraldo Rivera attempted to report live from Zuccotti Square in Lower Manhattan weeks into the protests, only to be met with jeers of “Fox News Lies” and subsequently chased out of the square by demonstrators.
“They openly mocked protesters here as dirty hippies, uneducated fools and drug addicts and potential criminals – and they don’t know what they’re talking about, frankly,” protester Chris Cobb told RT last month.
Now, says Anonymous, it is there turn for the games. On November 5, Operation Fox Hunt will aim to “destroy the Fox News website.” In the past, hackers aligned with the Anonymous collective have successfully infiltrated the servers and websites of SONY and San Francisco’s Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) System. Even last week, an attack on the website of the Boston Police Department has been credited to Anonymous in retaliation of the local PD’s assault on Occupy Boston protesters.
If it were for me I would demolish their head quarters and send MR Murdoch to stand trail.

Wouldn't it be better if they not announced it? This way Fox News wouldn't see it coming till they strike. Announcing it now is just giving them time to strengthen their security system.

They might be doing that just to make it more insulting.
