For a comedy there is a lot of dramatic stuff going on in the background of this show.
Form the story of Kaguya's mom dieing when she was little to Shiogane's broken home and all the stuff in between like with Miko and Ishigami...

And thus spoke Yu Ishigami .
Nothing beats having supportive and overly upbeat senpai's to restore your faith in humanity and real people and deliver a pretty fun and unexpected cheer-leading routine . Ishigami without his bangs was...something. It was almost hard to recognize him, but seeing why he grew them out as he became more distant and withdrawn from people and the world was tough to watch. But it made it all the more heartwarming when he had his epiphany at the end and exposed both his eyes to finally identify and embrace those that were supporting him . Nothing sucks more then when you try to do right by the girl who was kind to you against her scummy dirt-bag boyfriend only to get pegged as the instigator and have everyone turn on and shun you (including said girl) when you were the one who was doing the right thing. Maybe Ishigami could have helped himself if he'd just been upfront about everything and didn't resort to violence, but after he suggested releasing lewds of Otomo just to get Ishigami off his back, I don't think anyone could have resisted punching that sack of @#$% . We finally see Ishigami's parents, and it looks like his dad might have actually hit him in frustration over Ishigami's adamant stance against apologizing . This wasn't just Ishigami's origin story, but also the origin of his friendship with Shirogane and his joining the student council. The student council looked into things and found out the truth, and Shirogane went to Ishigami himself to finally validate Ishigami's actions and tell him that he had nothing to apologize over. At just such a point in his life, I can't imagine anything else having as profound an impact on Ishigami's life, and it's no wonder that he values his friendship with Shirogane so much and what being on the student council has done for him . Even Iino couldn't help but root for Ishigami and want to be there to support him after he lost the race! She is the one who argued against excluding him from going to high school, after all . Kyoko Otomo, from her perspective, is the victim in all this (and in some respects she was the victim, just not in the way she realized) even if her frustration with Ishigami and calling her out makes her come off as a self-righteous and shallow girl. Ignorance is bliss, huh? But it's not like Ishigami wants to guilt trip Otomo and that doesn't necessarily make her a bad person, and it seems like both of them are moving on from what happened to happier and more fulfilling lives .

This hit hard. I really wish Kaguya had just upfront told Ootomo what really happened. I get why she didn't, as it would steal that smile Ishigami worked so hard to protect, but still... But then, that's something I always want and rarely get. Anytime I see a character become bitter and vengeful and condescending over a misunderstanding, I want to see that character's face as they find out the cold truth; hardly ever get it though. Same thing back with Oresuki. I so wanted to see those two girls' faces as Sun was driven to spill the truth, revealing how easily they'd been tricked. And this desire isn't purely about the added drama and conflict that can be brought by such revelations, but also because frankly it's better for her as well. If she realizes how easily she'd fallen for a scumbag like him, maybe she'd be a little more careful next time (or at least not be so willing to let a guy take dirty pics of her). Oh well. Also, a pity they cut a little out:
Spoiler:
But yeah, I loved that spot where Miko started cheering him on. |

So satisfying to hear that, "Urusai, baka", from Ishigami to Ootome after waiting a long while for this to be animated.
Shame we did not get shown Kaguya explaining that she dropped some info to Shuuchin's VIPs about Ogino. EDIT: This episode made the mangaka, Akasaka, cry. Ref: https://twitter.com/akasaka_aka/stat...53399350231040 |

If I was Kaguya, I would have gone up and "explain" things to Otomo, mainly to stop her from continuing to spread negativity at Ishigami. It might help her grow as well, even if it wasn't worth the effort to do that.
And frankly, anytime anyone says anything negative about Ishigami, Kaguya can easily just tell them that they know nothing, and that the rumors they heard were all lies. Kaguya has more credibility than almost anyone else at that school. That will probably improve the quality of life for Ishigami at least while still keeping what he's done intact.

Problem is that she knows how hard Ishigami worked to protect her blissful ignorance. She wouldn't go and wreck that smile he worked so hard to protect. Same for discrediting the rumors, Ishigami would be unhappy at best, may even feel betrayed if she did that. That's why she had to settle for only telling a handful of people with enough influence and sense of justice to completely wreck the bastard in secret. |

It's not about explaining what has happened, but about just saying the rumors are false. In other words, mind your own business. That's not going to betray Ishigami, since no one will know. They just will stop saying negative things about him and be neutral with him at worse.

The thing is Ootomo didn't do anything.
Many people witnessed Ishigami beating up Ogino and they believed Ogino's claim that Ishigami was a jealous stalker. The rumor just spread by itself. It's impossible to stop it unless they make a public announcement about what really happened.

It's actually possible to start a counter rumor. Just silence the gossipers by saying they are wrong, and stop spreading false narratives. Those same gossipers will start spreading the news that Kaguya said that it was wrong. They'll wonder what is right, and be curious why Kaguya will defend such a "scum", thinking maybe he's not that bad after all. It can work in a positive direction, without disclosing everything. People are sheep, and they'll tend to go with the crowd, even if they have no idea why.

It's impressive to note how his original running gag was just actual trauma from his backstory! It also puts his mistrust of Kaguya helping him at first in such a different light. Fantastic writing. Aka-sensei is truly way above the average mangaka.
