Guts is the epitome of being a Berserker (in addition to the Berserker armor....).

I'd probably give him.... EX rank. and B++ (+ modifier only applies to supernatural beings, namely demons) strength.

I prefer the messier Apocrypha where you can summon more than seven Servants....

Cleopatra would make a broken Caster as well. You can actually put her in the Ruler role.

For Anime side of the house. Lina Inverse would be a broken Caster, like Nanohi. That is the reason why I like the Heaven's Feel format.

Yeah, and he's really the only "good" mage from history. Anyone else would have to be like Bluebeard, in that they aren't known as being magicians but could be tweaked to be one.

And well, there's a reason why Assassin is usually Hassan. It's very unusual for a warrior of the shadows to gain the fame required to ascend to the level of a legendary soul.
Yeah, that's why I added coming up with their power based on history.

Would people like Hattori Hanzo and Yagyū Jūbei Mitsuyoshi qualify?

They might in the Moon Cell continuity. The main Fate verse seems to be partial to Hassan, however.

In addition, I'm not sure those guys have been real people (or possibly real people anyway, legends and myth works, but fairy tales and pure fiction don't).

If they could conceivably have been real people, it shouldn't matter if their skills were real or not. As long as they're chronicled as having those skills, they will have them.

I noticed how at least two Casters have been writers though (probably due to how difficult it is to cast Caster). Which makes me wonder what it would be like if somehow H.P. Lovecraft became a Caster.

There's also at least one instance where Caster has been a concept.

Is Medusa a real person? Also, IIRC she’d never been chronicled to be able to ride anything . So, yeah.

Interesting question. Btw, I can’t believe I haven’t made my own version of anime-based servants yet. Well, here goes:

Spoiler for my reason:

And...let’s follow this with my other lists of servants using different source :

It's impressive your archer actually uses a bow as his main weapon

I so dislike repeating myself. Next time, properly read what people have to say. I don't even feel inclined to humor your very uninformed comment concerning Medusa not being able to be Rider.

Well duh. Of course I read your post. I even took the effort to quote it. It would be dumb not to read it (unless what you said above is sarcasm directed at me).

When I said “Medusa” in my previous post, I meant the legend of Medusa IRL (not Fate-version). You know, the one who got raped by Poseidon, turned into half-snake monster with funky hair by Athena, and then got decapitated by Perseus? You're welcomed to correct me if I’m wrong, but I think there’s no record of IRL-Medusa possessing “rider ability”. Sure, Pegasus sprang from the blood of her decapitated neck, but that’s it.

My point is, when it comes to Fate universe, you don’t have to be extremely picky coz they can just change any historical/legendary/fictional figure to fit the criteria of either servants or just for the lulz (Arthur-> a girl, Medusa -> purple-haired chick who get Pegasus as a gift from the gods (?), Sasaki Kojiro -> just a fictional figure compared to the likes of Medusa, etc).

So, when Sheba asked this:

I’d say it’s possible especially if the writer wants it .

Nasu changes the legends a bit or anyone can just read the myth and be done with it.

Gilgamesh having every super prototype is Nasu's idea (lol at Durandal)

See, if I choose actual historical, mythical and legendary figures, I would have gone with

Saber: The Emperor Charlemagne. Have the sword Joyeuse and his Twelve Peers.
Rider: El Cid. His sword the Tizona and his horse Babieca. He would provide a nice foil to Charlemagne as being a little more Christian than Charlemagne have been in real life.
Lancer: Cú Chulainn, I have a reason to recast him as Lancer.
Archer: Houyi, this one is tricky, it have been either him or Ulysse, hero of Homer's Odyssey.
Berserker: Samson.
Assassin: The Beast of Gevaudan. I would have tweaked the legend into that of a werewolf.
Caster: Scáthach. This is begging for a showdown between master and student filled with manly tears.

Good list. It would be fun to see a Grail War with these heroes.

Probably because he is more folklore than myth.

Check out Wikipedia. There are traces of Robin Hood actually based on a real-life person (just like Dracula). Well, at least he’s more “real” than Medusa .

Seems I didn't look thoroughly enough. Robin Hood is more worthy to be a servant than I though.

Well, he does show up in Fate/Extra. I dunno how popular Robin Hood is outside the UK, though. Also, I suspect that many people in the US would have issues with him because he was basically a socialist, and the US considers socialism as an unforgivable thing....

If I'm remembering it correctly a servant in the holy grail war only needs to exist as a hero in the aggregated conscience of humanity, he doesn't have to be based on a real person that existed.
