Yo.

I'm a first timer here, but I stumbled here and am surprised at all the animated gifs and crazy avatar pics from Arakawa. It's pretty awesome, and nice to know there's a core of devoted fans, so you can count me in as one of the people that do watch the show - I started fresh from the first season and kept going!

Here's my rundown:

Nino - one of the awesomest characters ever.. mysterious but cool, you hardly ever see her smile but she's capable of it, and lights up the room when she does. she can also wade out shoulder deep into a river and jump out instantly onto the riverbank! - among other feats! (Episode where she was upset - crows ordered to get the cookies - absolute win.)

Ric - unlike most idiot protagonists, this guy actually has some depth.. although he was raised strictly by a set of rules, he's found out later that those don't really matter at all, but retains his true-to-self mentality and puts all of his vast skills to use when he sees a way to make life better for everyone. you can't help but root for him through his shock and adaptation to a strange life he could never have imagined.

Hoshi - yeah, he's pretty much a foil.. a one-sided character with a hopeless love interest who's basically just an asshole rival.. it'd be cool if he developed a little more, maybe got over Nino and put his focus on a new path? I'm sure we'd like to see him succeed somehow.

P-Ko - she's the cutest! .. but maybe they wrote her too cute? I actually got more laughs when her clumsy side was being exposed, ie her hilariously bad driving.. lately they've just been picking on her or putting her between two extremes to push her for a reaction.. I'm hoping for a conclusion in which P-Ko can be stress-free and happy, because she's cuter when she's happy.

The Metal Brothers - occasionally nonpresent in episodes, moreso during the 2nd season where they make only random appearances. Who really knows how their story will unfold?

Sister/Maria - these two need to get together. Maria may need to tone her sadism down a few notches to reach Sister on the right level, but if they can find a connection, I think they'd be perfect for each other. Picture Sister in a field exercise in which he's 'crippled both his feet' so he has to crawl on all fours.. replace the giant backpack with Maria. There you go.

Mayor - oh, we have just got to have the reveal .. a scene where he's got the suit off and he somehow plays it up as if it's trickery.

Poor Shimazaki. Shiro is totally stringing her along and he doesn't even realize it. Neither does she. And wow, I can't believe he's got such an understanding family

I have to admit, I wonder how much of that is cultural. This was a very, very, JAPANESE episode, and although I had some vague idea of 'wabisabi' it was never something that was going to work for a non-Japanese audience.

I could vaguely understand why it was supposed to be funny, but I couldn't find it funny.

After reading the wiki article on wabi-sabi, i think I've got a better idea of what the 2nd part of the episode was about now. I'd imagine it'd to be something akin to them talking about and appreciating art with the Mayor and Last Samurai being the elitist jerks that they are, stomping on Hoshi and Ric trying to make an impression lol

I fucking died at the very end of this episode (during Nino's class lesson).

I mean like I have trouble breathing laughing. Sister just bleeding out of nowhere fucking caught me off guard so damn bad I nearly turned blue myself.

It's amazing how obedient he is when it comes to Maria

The amount of damage soak he can take makes them a perfect fit for each other i reckon

I still wanna know how he came to be in that Sister outfit in the first place though...

Her three subordinates put a spell on Ko to make him fall in love with her, which actually turns out successful. Nino, as innocent as she is, believes that there is still hope that Ko still loves her, only to have her heart broken that he married her. Only then, do we know her true feelings, that she truly loves Ko and that she wold do anything to get him back and will hate it of he were to go out with someone else. Nino misunderstood marriage.

Shiroth Beautiful fighter. Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: England, UK Age: 37	Spoiler for Episode 9: First part was truly hilarious. I can't believe Shiro actually has a training line-up and competition for the white line painter . Plus involving Shimazaki into it, along with basically confessing to her was very funny. Poor girl, though at least she's happy. Loved the tea party in the second part, though i wasn't that interested with what came after. It was funny, though i guess i just didn't 'get' most of it.
