I saw a movie in the early 90s and can't remember its name to watch it again.
I tried googling different plot elements but have not been able to find it.
Hopefully someone here might recognize it.

Here is what I remember:

Its older animation that fits in with 80s style
Takes place in space on a large space station orbiting a star
There is a super computer that controls the station and the human occupants
These humans have special powers

At some point some the humans rebell against the staion
The super computer destablizes the station's orbit and sends it toward the star
The main hero creates a barrier around the station to blockout the heat

In the process most of the station is destroyed except the central portion
The other people that are rebelling figure out that they can't get out of the stars gravity well
So they use their special powers to push the station into the star faster in an attempt to pass through and come out the otherside (as long as the main hero can hold the barrier)

During this process the female companion goes to seal a breach in the barrier and is wounded
In the epilogue the hero who apparently liked the girl goes to see her in the hospital
However she doesn't remember him as her memories were erased by the medics taking care of her.

If anyone can identify this movie I'd appreciate it. Not knowing it driving me up the wall.

That sounds a lot like They were eleven (aka. Juuichinin Iru!). Look it up in Youtube or something to see if that's what you're looking for.

OK, the storyline really does sound incredibly familiar, but i can't remember the animation or the characters , so can you check whether it was the anime suggest by mecharobot?

It's not the same, though incredibly similar.

It was just 10 (11) exceptional space cadets that stood before their final test before graduation at their space flight academy. If I remember correctly, there were issues with organic life onboard the ship/station that threatened the crew and also the mystery around who is the 11th unexpected crewmate. And of course, the "female" crew member, while being hospitalized, remembered everything, hence the happy ending with the show's main hero.

The shows are either ridiculously similar, OR vinhsynd merged memories of those two independent shows together.

I can't remember the animation (somehow i have a feeling that's one of Tezuka one-short) but anyway , some key point that definitely with vinhsynd post:
- the main character did shield and get everyone's help to breach through the star/ sun-like block. I think they tried to push the space station away first using their power but failed. That's why they risked getting through instead
- the shield was breached at some location and the heroine teleport out try to patch it. But then another hole was breached and she got toasted (not sure if she survive or not)
- it was a manga
