There is some new info on Maya Yotsuba's magic from Volume 8 (same as Web 4 that I summarized). It explains some interesting details and why this magic is among the strongest in the world.

The official name is Meteor Line.

The reason Maya has the title of the "Far Eastern Maou" or "Empress of the Night" is due to the effects on light whenever this magic is activated. This magic is able to directly affect the distribution of light and especially in indoors and other enclosed settings (e.g a subway), there can be special powers.

To a magician, the process would be a sudden darkness with various small dots of light. These dots of light would converge towards the opponent and then skewer them to their death (matches the description of my summary of Web 4).

Initially, one would believe that this magic is some sort of accuracy based, ranged attack. In truth, the attack power of this magic lays not in the light itself or even the energy of the light.

The technical aspects are a bit difficult to explain, but from what I read, it seems that the light's true purpose is to change the natural attribute or"information" of whatever it passes through.

Side Note: In many ways, this is "true" magic to the Yotsuba. You're changing the nature of the information. End Note.

The net result is that regardless of the original attribute of the object whether it's insular, hard, soft, bouncy, organic, whatever, anything will get pierced.

Even a window that is highly transparent, if it isn't 100% transparent and even reflects a spec of light, it can be pierced through.

Analyzed at a deeper level, the change is made at the magic and physical level (sorry, I forgot the exact terms). In many ways, it can be classified as a disintegration magic that evaporates at the gas level (I'm reminded of Ichigou's "Explosion" magic).

If the target itself emits some sort of light, it automatically locks-on. When this happens, it cannot be forcibly broken or even reflected. Furthermore, because the dots of light surround the target from every angle, even if a barrier is erected, it's still useless. Even if the target is able to completely surround himself in a barrier, it can likewise with 100% accuracy skewer the target by penetrating through the barrier.

Essentially, this magic is unaffected by any sort of interference magic. Likewise, it's equally impossible to counter this magic with another magic. Light in itself is nearly impossible to interfere at the spiritual level. Even if the target is proficient enough to interfere with light, that target itself must specifically be stronger than Maya's control over light to successfully supersede her. Of course, Maya has been manipulating light for her entire life. To even think about beating Maya at light is more or less an impossible task.

The moment this magic is activated, the change in attribute of the target is already an unchangeable fact.

Side Note: In essence, if you truly want to beat Maya, you have to prevent her from activating this magic. In many ways, you have to beat her while she's in her "casting" stage, which lasts for like .3 seconds if even that long, and wrestle control of light away from Maya. But... Maya has been working with light for her whole lifetime, so good luck with that. End note.

Even the Phalanx defensive magic of the Juumonji clan that can block both magic and physical objects is unable to defend against it. Because of this, Maya is undefeated in fights against other magicians and hence earned her place among "The Strongest Magicians in the World".

However-, Meteor Line is a magic that interferes at the physical or magical level and changes them. Tatsuya's Disintegration magic is a magic that works at the deepest information level and hence it directly counters Maya's magic.

Final Note: I'm not 100% sure about this. It's just my speculation here. The reason why Maya's magic is able to penetrate the endless layers of Phalanx is possibly due to the fact that all the barriers emit some sort of light and can all be penetrated at once to the target's body.

On the other hand, the reason why Phalanx is considered a counter to Tatsuya's Disintegration is because Tatsuya works "one object" at a time- a layer of barrier, a tank, a missile, a human, etc.

Also, I've checked. There is indeed a chapter of the young Yotsuba sisters. It's named the "Untouchables". I didn't read it all, but I've glanced over the ending and I could tell that it matched the summary given by someone earlier. In other words, it's not a story with a happy ending.

That's what I got out of it. Of course, this is talking about them purely from a magic standpoint. True fights take in other factors. A crippled old man with Phalanx will simply not beat a young, athletic, in-his-prime magician with Disintegration.

But yes, the magic in themselves seems to have a triangle rock, paper, scissors relation.

I think Tatsuya ready said to Miyuki he is on the stage to take down Maya, but not good enough to take everyone could try to oppose (like the butler) , I think when Tatsuya talk about a possible battle against Juumonji (vol 4 dance event) he was calculate non death toll on the enemy side, plus he cannot reveal magic like flash cast, so thats why the "attrition battle stance" between Tatsuya and Juumonji, anyway looks like Mayumi ready notice superficially Tatsuya true power (the talk Mayumi/Azusa Vol 4 in the bench b4 Miyuki last event, the monolit code event revealed Tatsuya have superpower, this at least Kuduo said, Kuduo was the sensei of Maya and Miya, other people whom probably spoiled Tatsuya true nature: Susune, Juumonji and their Clans including Saegusa.

From what I remember, it's not that he can't take down the clan leader or even the public figures of the clan (he's confident in his own skills), but rather he doesn't know the forces that are hiding in the dark. Maya may be the public clan leader, but there is a group of forces in the dark that allowed Maya to have the clan leader position (think of them as the hidden officers of the CEO). In other words, unless you know every key figure in the clan, you're unable to completely eradicate the clan.

Yeah, you can kill Maya and several top figures (say, the CEO, VP of PR, VP of HR), but there is still several around (Executive VP) that can just simply elect a new clan leader (CEO). If anything, this is worse, because you would now make yourself a target. If you're going to eradicate the top, you have to do it all at once.

Regarding Mayumi, I don't remember the exact details, but I believed that she was the only one that perceived Tatsuya using mist dispersion on an incoming tank outside a wall during the Yokohoma Incident. No one else noticed it, but Mayumi was like, "What... was that?" Tatsuya was like, "Sh*t, she noticed?" Then someone walked in. So yeah, Mayumi definitely has a gist of Tatsuya's true powers.

I get the strangest feeling that the clan WANTS Tatsuya to take her out. They work to develop his powers even though they are in direct opposition to Maya's powers and yet they treat him horribly. It's kinda like they are grooming him to take out Maya. They place Miyuki in his care so that she would be safe when the time comes and takes control afterwards.

Well its said Maya was against Tatsuya and Miyuki being close, thats why even they live under the same roof they dont see very often until the accident 3 years ago, even Tatsuya say he dont rememner nothing b4 the accident.

Not sure about the status of the BT translations. Not keeping tracking of it. Again, I'm going off of a blurry memory. I could be wrong, but it's there in my mind. Shortly after, the 101st Battalion arrives so the topic is dropped. It's very possible I'm combining two incidents together, but I'm too lazy to check on the text now. Nevertheless, Mayumi's reaction really stood out to me.

I believe the raws are out for the Japanese at the usual site. The chinese translations are also done, so likewise, the same sites.

Well, dont worry, BT its on vol 6 chapter 2 and looks like this 2 vols involve battles (vol 8 its before high school), so far if I understand translate source are from Dengeki, I think this project its like SAO (web publish novel) so I dont know its there "versons" or different approaches, like say: I reading manga right now and the spin off seems to cover "holes" of the BT and the offcial manga or bettter say the main plot, so they dont deviate the main plot, more than that they enrich the history, something I really like.

To be honest, I ready appointed in the case of MayumixTatsuya I think BT version leave to many story holes so its hard to understad better the caracters interaction, I know its come from the author, I just saying the point.

EDIT: THE TANK INCIDENT Sorry my mistake, you said "Yokohama Incident" and I was refering the "Fuji Incident", I think there lies the misunderstanding, so probably vol 6 or 7, not yet translated.

The trip to the 9 Schools Competition is the bus incident (volume 3). I definitely remember that one. It was the one where Tatsuya forcibly swept away 10-some magics with his gram demolition. Mayumi later made a remark on it at the Monolith Code Competition with Mari.

The tank incident from my memory (which can be wrong), is one where Mayumi perceived Tatsuya's action and was in a state of shock at what just happened. She knew what happened, but didn't know what magic Tatsuya used. This should be volume 7 or Web 3 if you have the summaries.

Actually, you may be right. But for some reason, I keep remembering Mayumi's expression. I definitely don't remember any "WTF just happened" reaction from Katsuto. He was pretty serious/calm through the whole ordeal.

Before we talk some about if Tatsuya its being hate feeding against Clan CEOs, so i just figuret out its highly probably do they know Tasuya real power and thats why they have that actitute toward Tasuya, I think on Vol vol 3 during the the encounter in the FLT building exit when their father assistant haved non good words exchange said something like Tatsuya its no real mage and monster or something like that, well, Mibu said she feel like cliff or better saying human vrs gods difference when she saw Tatsuya battle power (keep in mind she witness the whole deal vrs Kirihara and blanche incident), Kirihara said Miyuki its like a Faisal, so beatiful thats kills and touching involve death itself, if we take fear itself to know what this guy really can do, its not many people whom can stand without the dread felling, so probably under their gaze Tatsuya its only a weapon or an instrument of mass destruction walking and breathing.

Yeah he was calm about it but Katsuto was reacting as to why it disappeared because he said he wouldn't be able to stop it with his magic. At least that's what the summaries say.

The only parts I can think of where Mayumi would be shocked in that arc are:

2. Tatsuya, in his black battle suit and floating in the air, saving them from the locusts and protecting the rescue helicopter.
