ch260 - "RIGHT ARM OF THE GIANT..."

Well, well, well...

This chapter will certainly answer a lot of questions people have had about Chad since he first got his arm powers way back in chapter ... 15? (someone tell me when it was and I'll edit to list the appropriate chapter)
Whenever it happened, it's finally come to pass. Chad figured out what he is. And he was kind enough to tell the rest of us...

the first few frames are recaps of last chapter from different angles as Chad explains what his arm is. Only now he explains in more detail.

He says that he felt something in Hueco Mundo that he had never felt in Karakura or in Soul Society. He knew he was different from the shinigami and the quincy, but what was he?

When the three boys got to Hueco Mundo he started feeling a rumbling deepinside himself, but he tried to ignore it. He didn't want to face the truth. It wasn't a rumbling of fear or trepidation at arriving in Hueco Mundo, but instead a deep sense of joy. He had been trying to ignore it. But when Mosqueda was attacking him just then with his hundred strike technique, Chad stopped feeling the rumbling. Everything settled down inside him and he felt a sense of calm. His feeling changed because he was being attacked by one of his own. Chad's powers are hollow powers and the deep rumbling he felt was a sense of joy at returning home.

Chad is something like an arrancar!! He doesn't say these exact words, but that's what he is! He says, "My powers are closest to that of a hollow."

So after Chad tells Mosqueda that, he reveals his true power. And Kubo writes on the title page, "And it goes flying!" And it does. He pushes his arm forward and the mouth on it opens up! He hits Mosqueda head on with a blast that makes the thing he shot at Shunsui look like a pellet gun. It even puts Grimjow's Cero to shame. This thing fills up the whole room and knocks Mosqueda all the way across the chamber to the far wall. Mosqueda is bloody and stunned. But Chad doesn't stop there.

Ask yourself. What was Chad's biggest weakness before? His speed, right? He was a big slow lug. Well, that all changes now. Mosqueda tries to attack Chad with a kick, but Chad just blocks lies it's nothing ans asks if Mosqueda got slower because he hit him. Chad bats him away with a swing of his arm, sending Mosqueda flying up to the ceiling. Mosqueda is worried, "Shit!" he says. But before he can think of what to do, Chad is flying straight at him!

Mosqueda grumbles to himself about Chad's true powers, saying that Chad's speed has increased so much, it equals his Sonido now. Chad hits him full force with a punch and a blast.

Mosqueda says, "I can't stop it..."

But now Chad is in for it. Mosqueda says, "It's worth saying that I have a 'true form' also, remember?"

And Mosqueda releases into something that vaguely resembles Renji's bankai outfit, only hollow style with the mouth and tail being part of Mosqueda's body instead of something he's holding. And look at that! It's called Doragura (Dragon Fist)! Chad is shocked! Mosqueda has a crazy fist with a mouth on it too!!

He prepares to attack. His attack incantation is, "Dios luego nos perdone" or "Forgive us soon Lord." He puts his fists out and the tail swings around. He puts his sunglasses on because apparently it will be bright. He fires a big blast. Not Right Arm of the Giant big, but certainly Hollow Ichigo Cero size. Chad is worried. The blast hits him full on. Mosqueda takes off his shades to see through the smoke.

Oh shit!! Chad is still standing and apparently unharmed. Chad apologizes to Mosqueda for not explaining better before. The fact is, Chad's arm is the hollow. It's inhabited by his Abuelo's spirit. And what he's seeing is the true form, but the true power is the power to protect. (Remember back when Chad had his flashback to Abuelo telling him to only use his arm to protect others! And remember the deal he made with Ichigo to protect Ichigo and Ichigo would protect him?? It all comes together now.)

Chad tells Mosqueda that his arm's true power is the Power to Shield. And we see that the arm took the entire blast from Doragura without even being scratched.

OMFG!!! Chad reveals something freaking spectacular!!! His left arm also has power!!!!!

"BRAZO IZQUIERDA DEL DIABLO." That means, "The Left Arm of the Devil." It's mostly white and considerably smaller than the Right Arm of the Giant, but it's pretty scary looking. The shoulder comes up in a point and the tips of his fingers anre either black or red, looking kind of like he dipped them in blood. He says with his training (with Renji) he finally found the true power to attack. (so what was the right arm then? chicken scratch?!)

And Kubo writes below it, "Power Running Wild!"

I guess the full title should be, "The Right Arm of the Giant, The Left Arm of the Devil"

well, my thoughts:

so it seems that Chad is most likely a kind of arrancer hybrid, in that his right arm is inhabited by his Abuelo. But his left arm is probably his own inner power. I have a feeling the Exequias will not get to kill Mosqueda. I think that the Left Arm of the Devil will show no mercy. Finally, Chad becomes an interesting character. And I believe I was saying last chapter how it looked like his arm had a hollow mask on it!

well, Chad's fans everywhere will be rejoicing that his new shounen power-up was way better that Ishida's needle/sword. We'll have to wait another week to see what his left arm does, but it should be sweet.

At the rate things are going, we won't see Ichigo and Nell again for several weeks! Renji and the big guy will probably encounter some next. And I'm betting money on Rukia having some sort of run in with Ichimaru Gin.

Man, I liked this chapter. I can't wait for next year when we see this animated. Maybe sooner if no more fillers, but....

A very neat attempt to transform a previously unpopular (not unlikable but merely someone you ignore most of the time) character like Chad into a character that deserves spotlight.

wow that is way too uber, he suddenly goes from a chump to a formidable opponent in 2 chaps. it was nice how his power had a past and explaination(somewhat) rather than a uber super god power randomly given to him kinda thing.

i know. it's a much better story than "oh this? I picked it up when I was at the hospital."

It makes me wonder though... was Chad ever really in Mexico? Or did he come from Hueco Mundo and he just remembers it as Mexico because of the cactus and the Spanish and all...?

I think of Chad's BRAZO DERECHO DEL GIGANTE, BRAZO IZQUIERDO DEL DIABLO more as.....

A Hollow-type parasite inhabiting his arms rather than a full-fledged Hollow.

Because if it was the latter's case, then Chad would have been suffering the same symptoms of insanity and rampage like Ichigo did when the inner Hollow tried to take over.

Chad's arms would be more as symbiotes, co-inhabiting his arms but leaving untouched his soul.

As an example, think of the spirit which inhabits the dhampir D's left hand from Vampire Hunter D.

Chad's left arm has transformed as well. Turns out that this whole time his right arm was the defensive arm while his left arm was his offensive arm. His new arm isn't fully revealed but it also appears to be hollowish. Whereas the right arm is black with white markings, the left arm is white with black markings. If Chad has been using an arm meant for defense this entire time imagine what he can he do with the offensive arm. The days of punching-bag-Chad might be over.

I think that Chad no longer being a puching bag is an understatement with what happend in the chapter. Given that the guy he is fighting should be as strong or stronger then any of the non espada that came to earth and most of SS captains, all Mr 107 has been able to do is maybe muss Chad's hair, and given Chad's hair style even thats debateable. Even after he released he wasn't even able to scratch him with a super cero blast. This chapter has cemented my belife that Chad will be on the main fighting team all the way to the end game of the manga.

Not sure I would call it a cheap plot device.

All Chad had been focused on was protecting others. He still can do massive damage with his so called "defence" arm. Chad's become a Tank.

His design look much more balanced with the second arm and it looks almost like part of it is growing acrossed his chest. he's a step closer to haveing a fully armored form, which I wouldn't be suprized if we see before the manga is over

Yeah, but let's not forget that the Tres Cifras aren't the true enemies of this arc. They are captain-level at best and probably not the stronger captains either (Dol Doni stated that Ichigo in just his bankai form could've easily defeated him). So Chad and Ishida have indeed been powered up, but this might just be a set up for them to take a big fall later on when they start fighting the real opponents. When they start fighting the Espada, Chad might once again find himself in a situation similar to when he tried to fight Shunsui.

this makes wonder if Orihime has some suped up hollow power since her and chads powers are somewhat similar (meaning their not shinigami and their not quincy so they have to be someting else)

Maybe, maybe not. The current enemies in this arc have all been Tres Cifra and so far in this arc Azein has gone out of his way to keep the Espada out of the fight. So they might not even play that big of a role in this arc and might infact be the enemies for the next arc. At least to me It seems much too early in the seires to bring out the "big guns" unless Azein already has the Vasterlords waiting in the wings.

Also keep in mind that Chad was wipeing the floor with Mr 107 to the point he had to release and he still couldn't hurt Chad at all. I mean the Renji/Byakuya fight was much less one sided then this one is turning out to be.

And as many have stated before it's pointless to use Ichigo as a standard for power levels as Ulqi even pointed out that Ichigo's power level is very unstable and it ranges from "trash" to over Ulqi's own and he is belived to be in the top 5 of the Espada if not #1

One question this does bring up is how much stronger is Renji now? I mean they were practicing with each other in order to help Chad gain these powers under Mr "short cut to power" Urahara for over a month.

Its pretty huge a leap in power for chad isnt it. I expected his power to have some kind of a limit, because in soul society, his arm sucked up his life power, maybe his new arm will have a new effect. Im getting a feeling kubo just wants to get this chapter over with, cause never in soul society arc has there been such a one sided fight to the point where even when the enemy releases, you continue owning him.

well, we still know nothing of his father and mother. and if you think about it, someone's above comment makes sense. chad's arm does look a lot like Aizen's arm when he transformed it to take out the hougyoku from Rukia's body. what if Aizen placed Chad in shinigami retirement-filled Karakura? only time will tell, but already i can sense that Chad will be tempted by the dark side. the ... um... force is stong in him...? does Chad have a reiatsu? like how Quincies don't really have a reiatsu... does chad?


and yeah, it was a joke about Seelen Schneider... though i actually do like this writing quite a bit more than some apparently.

Frankly, who didn't see this coming? It took a while, (( ever since Chad's power surfacing )), but they've finally revealed that Chad's power is Hollow-ish based. The arm design screams Hollow in the first place.

So... I'm hoping Chad's next power-up (( if anymore )) covers him whole body ala Venom.

Well i hope his power up dosent cover his whole body because basically, EVERYONE is expecting it to be a full body power up. I mean, give us a surprise or something, it'll be more enjoyable.

If Chad does keep getting new abilities (aka more body armor) at some point they're going to have introduce a weakness to the powers. He can't just keep growing stronger and stronger so quickly without there being a price to pay, especially if the powers are hollow-based.
