Hmmmm, tough question, the pilot of course plays a great role. In that aspect I'd say Duo Maxwell and his angel of death gundam (Gundam Wing) and Jo with her mecha (Bakuretsu Tenshi).

Hmm... I don't like conventional mechas, I like those strange looking ones or organic ones. My favorite mechas are Turn X in Turn A Gundam, Dolem Allegrato in RahXephon, And Dragonets in Narutaru (if they can count as mechas).

Mech series kind of bore me after a while. But my favourite would have to be the CR1 (Hartzinen) and Zinv (Jinmu) from Dual Parallel.

Hmm, I've always kinda liked the Griffon Labor from the Patlabor Manga, or the final form of Xenogears, but on a Biomechanical slant, definitely Guyver III!

If I remember correctly, it wasn't Gunbuster that took out the core, it was a black hole doomsday device made of of Jupiter. Though Gunbuster did end up triggering the device in the end.
