Another fantastic episode that allows us to see some key characters changing and moving forward.

At first thoughts of Maria's DualBlade form I felt it unsavory and lame, but after watching this episode I believed its fitting for her psychotic, childish personality and sociopathic mood swings.
One thing for sure was the two new tunes played from the OST score; a cross combination between gothic melody mixed with schizophrenic tones, added rendition of soft rock with female solo.
Think of it as listening to Danny Elfman's score from Tim Burton's films merged in what felt for me as a tunes that possess a Yuka Kajiura-esque texture within them; Maria's own psycho-gothic theme was a thriller and ecstatic to me, yearning even more to laid my hands on the OST.

As for Maria, herself is deliciously an schizophrenic child; I recommend you to pay particular attention to the different psycho faces she pulls out for this episode.
I think that Maria's sociopathy should be rewarded a place among other homicidal female characters in anime, though I'm not sure if she's on par with Diva's arrogant, but naughty airheadedness; Rena's oyashiro mode; or Mariko's childish murderous demeanor.

Animation returned how it looked like at the beginning of the series, mediocre. Characters were drawn with enlarged lower jaws, spiky chins, and sleeky, hook noses. However, the drama, psychosis, unbound carnage, and last tearjerking moments made me to forget about the animation flaws.

GONZO is making a decent job at keeping the story carrying on and giving treatment to the characters for growing up.

I cannot give you a detailed synopsis of what happens, because of my unfortunate hindrance on understanding Japanese, however, I can give an add-on for several key points that were discussed.

1. Tozawa was able to crack the code in order to open the NSWF profiles he stole two episodes earlier. Inside, there's a full list of names and stadistics for the Neo-Gene.
Speculation
He phones to Masane that he found the Neo-Gene are somewhat bound to each other by a same father source. //Tozawa was repeating over and over the word chichiue, which I believe is an informal form for 'father'.// Somewhat he mentions a possible connection about that father source with Father Furimizu.

He warns Masane to retrieve Riko from Reina Soho, because he found that she's a Neo-Gene though refers to Reina as a 'Monster' which quites hits a sensitive spot on Masane. Masane replies back that she's also a monster and cannot allow Riko stay by her side. Of course, Tozawa berates Masane calling her name, as he displays a geniune concern for both her and Riko.
Therefore, Tozawa visits the police station to check on Reina's profile registry for her address. He's going to retrieve Riko himself.

2. Maria breaks in Reina's apartment without warning, because she's obsessed on meeting her mother. Reina's wary of her while taking care of a frightened Riko. Unfortunately, Maria's hopes on meeting her mother are crushed upon setting her eyes on Riko holding on Reina's lap.
Speculation
I don't know for sure but understood Maria saying that according to some old profile registries Riko presumedly was death six years ago.

Reina instinctively feels that Maria is worst news, particularly noticing the two DualBlade wrists that are a different version of her CloneBlade. She tricks Maria to wait inside Riko's. Maria thinks that's the room her mom arranged for her and starts hugging the stuffed toys. Meanwhile, Reina and Riko used that moment to sneak out, get into the car, and drive the hell away as fast as possible. Unfortunately, Maria sees through the ruse upon spotting Riko's pijamas on the bed, going psychotic at first, then finally exploding into her DualBlade form a la Super Saiyan style giving chase to them while letting out primal screams.

The worst of it is that both Reina and Masane can perceive that Maria's pressence is too overwhelming and noxious. DBMaria is too ecstatic that all the Ex-cons at the surrounding area gather by dozens and start to follow her trail just like bees attracted to honey.
//The sensation is beyond human lust, that they lose control and brutally transform into their Ex-con forms on the most bizarre, tasteless, and freaking sequence I've ever seen.

3. The car cannot go further, so Reina issues Riko to stay inside. At first, a frightened Riko is wary of Reina's looks, but out of nothing, Reina's eyes change to a tender sight and speaks to Riko that everything is going to be fine in a motherly, warmth tone.
Reina herself is surprised by this change, since it's the first time that she acted on instinct feeling something that can't explain and quickly returns her face to her usual demeanor.
But, Riko caught a good deal of Reina watching her tenderly with motherhood eyes, that she went blushing and on her thoughts commented that Reina looked at her the same way that Masane does.

Reina confronts DBMaria and transforms to CloneBlade form. They start to duke out, and the former can barely keep up at the pace of that selfish, little brat. Unfortunately, DBMaria proves to be too much a big piece for CBReina to handle and bitch slaps her all the way through the forest. As the violent turns insane, Maria thinks that mommy should just disappear and goes apeshit, slamming her and then pinning her on a tree.
More cracks are appearing over Reina, and Maria successfully impales Reina multiple times with razor-sharp nails that extend as tendrils; Reina faints unconscious, and Maria is disappointed that the fun went over so fast.

She's now coming for Riko, but Reina will not allow her that. The fight resumes and there's more bitch slapping. Having enough is enough, a psycho-crazed Maria punches through Reina's mid-section pinning her to a tree.
//In similar fashion how Hagi's fist stabbed through Solomon's chest in Blood+ episode 23.//
Maria thinks she won unscathed, but at the last minute Reina pulled out her special, sneak attack like she previously used to kill Nora. A sharp blade is seen stabbed on Maria's left shoulder, forming cracks on her armor; Maria writhes upon the agonizing pain, but she's soon found by a NSWF helicopter comandeered by Nishida who came to retrieve her.

4. Meanwhile the Ex-cons are silently approaching to the source of the scent that is driving them insane with ecstasy. Fortunately, Tozawa managed to find Riko on time and both went hiding. Riko's downright scared, but Tozawa encourages that mommy will come to rescue her from the evil monsters.
//Riko for the first time sees the Ex-cons.//
Riko counters that it cannot be due that Masane is not her real mother. Tozawa calls her 'baka', because he knows by heart that Masane is deeply worried for her and cannot hide the fact of bearing the agony of being separated from her daughter. She's Masane's daughter and for her will do anything to protect her at any costs.

The Ex-cons are almost near to Tozawa and Riko's hiding spot. Riko cries out for Masane, and Masane on the same moment is able to feel her.

Tozawa tells Riko the truth about Masane's jobt, that is she fights those monsters, and Riko's astonished. //Though I'm not sure if Tozawa told her about Masane's transformation, but I think not because that would be too much for the little girl to cope with had he done so.

Effectively, WBMasane is hacking her way through the hordes of Ex-cons to reach Riko, killing them by dozens as if were pebbles on the track. Fueled by the sole purpose of seeing her daughter once more, Masane's strength has literally skyrocketed and ignited with rejuvenated euphoria. What is most interesting, however, is that the WitchBlade conscience is not at control and command but rather Masane's personality.

5. Returned to human form, Masane reunites with Riko once again in a best tearjerking and heartwarming scene.

Maria is loaded into the helicopter. The wound that Reina inflicted on her is too critical and looks that the brat cannot heal it by herself. //Reina has permanently scarred her with that wound.//
Maria can barely keep composure due to the pain and has enough strength to see through the window. What she looked at was Masane holding and hugging Riko around her arms.
Maria insanely cries upon the sighting, crying why her mother put her through that pain.

6. //A beautiful tearjerking but bittersweet end for a major character.
Nora in her CloneBlade form lies resting peacefully on a tree, as the sun settles. Takayama comes, and she asks for Riko to which he replies that she's safe.

Reina's happy hearing that news and could not explained at first why she reacted the way she did, but finally understood it. Through contact with Riko Reina felt something warmth inside her emerging for the first time, and it was a mother's endless love to protect her child.

Her face reflects solemnity and peace, as she's ready to sleep. Takayama's eyes wavered, barely able to contain his tears. Reina's last words were when the time comes for them to be together.
While the sun continues setting, Reina's gradually turns transparent until moving no more and turning into a crystal statue.
//Her death was different from other Neo-Gene in which her body did not turn into dust but rather remained whole and behind, just like when a cicada leaves its dried-up husk. This would mean that Reina died human.

My, what an amazing series Witchblade is shaping out to be! I know people are complaying about GONZO's work with some measure of basis, yet here and now Witchblade proves that GONZO can produce a great series with consistent, quality animation, believable characters and edge-of-your-seat plot.

In more ways that one, Witchblade is turning out to be the SpeedGrapher that never was. Call it penance, call it striking back, but Witchblade really does instill me with reinvigorated faith about Studio GONZO and that is especially delightful considering that Mardock Scramble will be coming out in near future as well.

Episode 15 really was a turning point for the series and I am pleased at how both strong and understated they've pulled it off. There are simply golden moments in there that are not overplayed with flash-bang imagery, but are still solid because of the unuttered emotions that pour through them.

The intimate bond that is shaping between Reiji and Masane was especially evident. I wouldn't call it sexual at all, but it does seem to be very strong. It's like they trust each other with their deepest secrets a lot more than they'd even want to get in each others' pants (which does not happen, thankfully).

The determination in Masane's eyes as she is looking for Rihoko. The sadness emanating from Reina as she is dying silently together with Reiji. That was a truly beautiful scene, shot without the unnecessary words and conveyed through glances, though unstates history between the two.

I am saddened to see Reina perish right after Nora. In general, I preferred the stylish and mature villains of the show, like Reina and Nora, to the slutty ones, but Maria in DualBlade form turned out not too shabby. She is still madeningly incomprehensible, but this episode solidiefied the fact that it seems to be stemming from true madness, rather than from plot inconsistency and sillyness.

All in all, an excellent episode and I am very happy to be following this series in spite of everything.

Hey, how can you say that 'BakuTen' was bad? It was BGC for crying out loud, and not that 'BGC 2040' bullshit. And as cheesy as it was I actually liked it. Considering I didn't care for it the first time it started airing. I was like uh oh, cheesy fanservice meets guns! Oh and it's 'Sei', not 'Sai'. And yes she is hot! In fact she's my fave. So much so that I plopped down $60 for a PVC model of her to grace my shelves. With her busts showing in all their sexy glory. THANK YOU UGETSU-san!

But not meaning to get off topic here. But I've never really been all that interested in 'Gonzo's shows if only for a selective few. 'BakuTen', 'Kiddy Grade' and 'Saikano' (haha it's funny all this talk about whether 'Gonzo' could do good works, and they forget 'Saikano'). Unfortunately, 'Vandread' doesn't fall into my selection. Nor will it ever. I've seen some of it and I didn't care for it much (any more than 'Ikkitousen' and don't get me started on 'Chrono Crusade'. WHICH WILL NEVER grace my shelves!). As I'm not interested in "ZOMG it has to be the greatest work to be considered great entertainment!" There are some things that 'Gonzo' can do and somethings they mess up on. But that's any company. If no one thought they couldn't do the job do you really think they would keep handing them work? C'mon folks, get real now! People rant and rave like 'Gonzo' produces crap on a daily basis. The only thing I hate about them is their major use of CG and their preference in artists. One in particular. I hate when a studio changes the style of what was established by the manga artist. Granted I've seen their renditions of manga to animation 'CC' is one example. Hated the designs, gave it a chance, watched it, hated it some more, got a headache from watching it, cursed it and finally moved on in peace because "HALLELUJAH PEANUT BUTTER" that I own the manga!

'WB' is not the greatest but it certainly isn't the worst. And despite it's flaws at times, it's turning out to be a decent little series. I watch the series because it's based off a American comic and I wanted to see what they would come up with. Because they kept the show simple it's turning out to be highly enjoyable. The elements of the show are what keep me glued each week. Now let's see if 'Gonzo' can keep up the good storytelling until we get to the end of the series.

Just caught up and watched ep. 11-14 (again) and finally 15 yesterday. Ready for 16.

I was very moved my this episode dealing with Reina's death. I had felt that she would stick around a little longer but considering the circustances with the CB breaking down, I knew that she would not make it. I had betted on her fighting as having to be forced to or to protect something. Both were pretty much right on. But I never expected this. And again the whole scene in the apartment with Rihoko. And again 'Riko' being persistant. You gotta give that kid an award. Hahahaha!


We got 10 more ep to go so far provided they cut this short. What's left since Reina's death? And CB sistas getting trashed left and right? Well, I bet the next thing is going to be between NsWF and Douji as they try to acquire 2 things. The 'WB' artfact and 'Rihoko'. Which is a given as NsWF has tried grabbing 'Riko' before. I had felt this before considering that Riko is no ordinary kid. She's too intelligent and mature to be a normal 6 year old. Plus, being Reina's daughter makes her all the more valuable. Now the question is, "how was 'Riko's conceived?

While 'Takayama' never doubted anything he never stated a "yes" either. I often wonder if 'Riko' was conceived my the same means? Even if a person is genetically created they still retain that DNA that make them connect to the donor. As in the case with clones they all have the same trait and are living breathing beings. Even if Reina was biological or genetically created she's still tied to 'Furumizu' in some shape or form. IF THAT IS HIS NAME NOW. If 'Father' is so bent on trying to make this perfect 'race' what if 'Reina' did the same thing? The whole scene in the apartment with her constantly making recordings like their situation is more of a experimental means than any maternal means. Which is 'Reina' all the way. Which is WHAT she was good at. Bottom line is that she's Riko's mother by DNA only but not on a maternal basis. It's like a queen ant. The only thing she puts into her children is her DNA which controls what they will be and what they will do. She is not a maternal being as all her offspring are expendable. Which is a good comparison for this show considering that Reina is the donor for the majority of the 'CB' bearers. Yet Masane is not blood related at all and in all her imperfect oddities she's proved to be a better parent. Considering where's she's come from. And again I wonder if there is any more to that as well. From this scene alone it makes me wonder what was the real reason why 'Reina' was running away that day. At the same time it also makes you see something interesting in the fact that all the CB sisters are obedient to 'Father' but Reina is the only one that has been doing stuff independantly. It's like developing your own mind. Yet someone like Maria has to be bribed to be kept under control. Furumizu must be playing with a loaded gun. If you're trying to make a perfect society, you don't pick unstable people. Again you have to symphathize with Maria. But hey she'll just be his undoing. When you strive to make something perfect it doesn't last. Something always goes wrong. It's nature's way to keep the balance of things. Again 'Furumizu' also knows about Riko as well. Which another thing I had questioned about to myself. In the end 'Reina' found peace a feeling that she never had before. Again pay close attention to these little bits because there are things hidden and bring to light more questions and answers surrounding the characters. Also if I had to take a guess on the donor for the 'CB' sisters, I bet it was "Father" who supplied it. Why else would info be so hidden. Sure they can say it was from somebody in 'Germany' but is it really? With a man that calls himself "Father"?

But now the question I wondered about, why was Riko's name in the system as being "dead"? Also, who's maternal passbook did Masane have? I'm assuming that the maternal passbook was Masane's with her true name on it. Don't ask me why they called it that. If if they didn't know who the child belonged to how were they able to get her real name? I'm assuming her info was already in the system however no parent was entered. Yet they were given new names to link them together.

Next stop on ep. 16 time to do a little getting away to a resort for some 'R&R' with Rihoko and Masane. And more than likely more shit. Thinking too much. I'll be honest that new assed-OP sucks! It's like someone's home "music video". Yet the damn $*&%!! song is stuck in my head. GRRRRRRN!! The ED song is ok, but I like 'Ashita no Te' better. Because I love watching the 'WB' anime so much it is now ingrained in my head, thus to the point of melting into my subconscious. I found that eating "rocky road" ice cream while sick just before bed can cause very strange dreams. Do I like Masane THAT much that I have get into a "yuri" encounter with her? OYE VAY! There are a lot of interesting theories. Damn this show has got me thinking way too much. I just put up a post on AnimeSuki yesterday, and last night I started thinking more. it sort of brought forth some interesting things, not much in change but some builder. It's some speculations involving 'Riko'. It practically goes back to something I mentioned in passing about her being a 'WB' candidate. With all the craziness going on with "genetic engineering" and 'Riko' being proven to be 'Reina's daughter anything is possible. And again 'Reina' being the donor for many of the "CB" sisters. Again making Riko nothing more than just another candidate added to the pile. So any chances of proper motherhood would be tossed out the window. Now it almost makes sense about the incident of Reina running away. I believe that 'Riko' was part of a little experiment that was put into action. But when she ended up lost in the "GREAT CATACLYSM", she was probably "X'd-out from the data files". But finding her again puts things back in the picture. Watching 'Reina' constantly recording info. as if it was part of an experiment. But I do wonder if she was doing this for her own accord or for NsWF in the beginning? I don't even think that 'Reina' was biologically conceived. Her personality somewhat restricted to her sense of duty. However, she has shown a sense of "independence". If we look back on some of the other episodes if you noticed all the 'CB' sisters are totally obedient to "FATHER" w/o without fail. 'Reina' is the only one that is somewhat different, and probably because she was the "best". Which is why he treats her somewhat special. But he was not pleased when she started acting on her own. Which is why he passed the task at hand over to 'Nora'. Yet we also saw 'Nora' not hesitate in trying to kill 'Reina'. Which shows that there really isn't any preference over the other. If one goes then it's just a disappointment. What's important is that 'FATHER's plans come to fruition. So they are expendable. Yet 'Reina' became more human when she chose to protect something imporant to her. Not as a subject but like a real parent. She died in warmth, wholeness, and peace not cold, sterile and incomplete. And now that 'Riko' is also from the same stock as 'Reina', that makes her a valuable asset to get their hands on. And again 'Riko' got great interaction from 'Masane', shaping her personality. To be honest she's much too smart and independent to be a normal 6 year old. The only reason I thought of the info. mentioned by 'Maria'. My only question is how NsWF was able to retrieve that name when they needed to give 'Riko' and 'Masane' new identities? I need something cleared up on this point. Because even if Masane didn't know the child's identity the agency would have done some test to determine the child's health and it would have ran through the system. But it doesn't mean that it would have tied to NsWF directly especially, if the info is "classified". It's too much a coincidence if they gave her 'Riko' and that name was already in the system. Also, Masane in a orphanage for 17 years. While that may be true and she has no recollection of it, we have the proof of the picture on the wall. Her not remember could still be caused by the long term shock. Which could affected both her short term and long term memory. But I have a small suspicion of wondering if she was a "test" subject. This has ran through my mind since the first OP. There is too much stuff connecting here and there and you never know what's going to come next. It just popped in my mind. During the incident in ep. 12, there was this look that 'Furumizu' gave Masane. It was one of pure disgust. That someone as lowly as her would have a higher compatability with the 'WB-artifact" than someone who "once" had or those created. But if it turns out that she WAS a "tossed" subject then it would add even more to this scene (and my thoughts) for being pissed off that the "trash" he tossed would end up right back in his face mocking him. Whatever the case she represents the "diamond in the rough". And for that reason alone is why she was chosen.

I'm sure we'll find out more and when we do all the pieces will come together once and for all. Onward to ep. 16.

A sharp blade is seen stabbed on Maria's left shoulder, forming cracks on her armor; Maria writhes upon the agonizing pain, but she's soon found by a NSWF helicopter comandeered by Nishida who came to retrieve her.

4. Meanwhile the Ex-cons are silently approaching to the source of the scent that is driving them insane with ecstasy. Fortunately, Tozawa managed to find Riko on time and both went hiding. Riko's downright scared, but Tozawa encourages that mommy will come to rescue her from the evil monsters.

Riko counters that it cannot be due that Masane is not her real mother. Tozawa calls her 'baka', because he knows by heart that Masane is deeply worried for her and cannot hide the fact of bearing the agony of being separated from her daughter. She's Masane's daughter and for her will do anything to protect her at any costs.

The Ex-cons are almost near to Tozawa and Riko's hiding spot. Riko cries out for Masane, and Masane on the same moment is able to feel her.

Tozawa tells Riko the truth about Masane's jobt, that is she fights those monsters, and Riko's astonished. //Though I'm not sure if Tozawa told her about Masane's transformation, but I think not because that would be too much for the little girl to cope with had he done so.

Effectively, WBMasane is hacking her way through the hordes of Ex-cons to reach Riko, killing them by dozens as if were pebbles on the track. Fueled by the sole purpose of seeing her daughter once more, Masane's strength has literally skyrocketed and ignited with rejuvenated euphoria. What is most interesting, however, is that the WitchBlade conscience is not at control and command but rather Masane's personality.

5. Returned to human form, Masane reunites with Riko once again in a best tearjerking and heartwarming scene.

Maria is loaded into the helicopter. The wound that Reina inflicted on her is too critical and looks that the brat cannot heal it by herself. //Reina has permanently scarred her with that wound.//
Maria can barely keep composure due to the pain and has enough strength to see through the window. What she looked at was Masane holding and hugging Riko around her arms.
Maria insanely cries upon the sighting, crying why her mother put her through that pain.

6. //A beautiful tearjerking but bittersweet end for a major character.
Nora in her CloneBlade form lies resting peacefully on a tree, as the sun settles. Takayama comes, and she asks for Riko to which he replies that she's safe.

Reina's happy hearing that news and could not explained at first why she reacted the way she did, but finally understood it. Through contact with Riko Reina felt something warmth inside her emerging for the first time, and it was a mother's endless love to protect her child.

Her face reflects solemnity and peace, as she's ready to sleep. Takayama's eyes wavered, barely able to contain his tears. Reina's last words were when the time comes for them to be together.
While the sun continues setting, Reina's gradually turns transparent until moving no more and turning into a crystal statue.
//Her death was different from other Neo-Gene in which her body did not turn into dust but rather remained whole and behind, just like when a cicada leaves its dried-up husk. This would mean that Reina died human.

Wow, looking at your spoiler summary, I can't wait to watch this episode.

Well, episode 16 featured what can be safely described as the happiest day of Mr. Cho's life. And Masane managed to find a swimsuit that would actually fit her. 8)

The amount of womanflesh was simply stupendous.

Masane's bust is around 98cm (J-cup size in Japanese system). They're pretty huge and I can think of only the gravure model Rio Natsume who also has a bust of 98cm but J-cup size. Normally it would fall from G-I in terms of size but J is pretty big. In the anime, the lingerie shop owner couldn't find a top that can fit her massive breasts. You think that the Witchblade caused Japan to be devastated in the near future would have at least some garments for busty women. Oh well, at least the bikini looks really good on Masane .

Well, hell look at 'Shiori' her's was 103cm. That's damn large! Of course that would be almost close to our standards here in the states since here we don't use cm. So would J be close to a DD here or an E? Of course it always ends up being a odd visual depending on who's drawing the characters. Surely, 'Air Master' fans remember 'Mina' she was 108cm. Yet, no one could figure out which size she was supposed to be 108 or 97. I'll go with the 108. And while we are on bust, who said 'Nora' could get an enlargement as a 'CB'. Considering that her build is rather moderate but the animation team seems to be taking liberties because there was "flesh" in the air.

I'll be watching ep. 16 tonight. Gotta see what going on.

My suspicions were proven correct. Riko is the chosen for the Witchblade, and Masane's acting as the interim wielder.

This whole conspiracy theories go back to episode 7 when Reina was carrying the baby (Riko) and the WitchBlade with her. I knew that Riko will play some further role or becoming a integral chess piece of the puzzle once the staff dangle with the idea of Reina's being Riko's true mother, later proved to truth.

It later becomes more evident when Nishida requests Nora from father to retrieve Riko in order to run tests on her in episode 13.

And it's only a matter of time for Nishida to unlocking Riko's true nature regarding the WitchBlade, then all of NSWF will be sticking on Masane's butt to get Riko.
Things will turn worst once Father learns of the true wielder and justify that since Reina was a CloneBlade sister and likely the mother source for the genetic material to the CloneBlades and with Riko being Reina's biological child, then Father absurdly will demand Riko being taken to NSWF as if she's his belonging.

Better Masane undergo some training or letting the WitchBlade loose on her, if she wants to keep further CloneBlade assaults at bay from Riko.

Moreover, I smell treason filled in the air. While it is expectable and predictable that Wado will take a major antagonic role, I do not think he's going to had a hand on kidnapping Riko.
I'm probably speculating that the character who you least expect the most will betray Masane and give in Riko to NSWF.

It will be inevitable a direct confrontation against NSWF, because Riko sooner or later is going to get busted.

Thanks to Guppy I already knew what went on between Masane and Takeyama, henceforth, I won't be commenting about it due that I discussed it in a previous post.

This is a much needed break to release stress and anguish on the dirty sh** that NSWF has been pulling out for five consecutive previous episodes.

Animation returned to its standard quality which is good compared to the previous episodes, and I have a much pleased look on how the staff managed to balance well the fanservice along with the inbetween moments among the characters to talk about themselves and for investing more on Masane & Riko bonding, and scattered a few vestigial hints that Tozawa maybe denying a possible affection for Masamune.

The only complain I have with the animation on this episode was again the drawing and sketching treatment on the female character, and Masane was whom she suffered most a severe case of cellulitis.
C'mon, it was nae to see Masane drawn with too much meat in her hips and waist in her swimsuit. The animators are cheap; even if for time and budget constraints, this was partly a fanservice episodes and should had kept a decent quality at every shot for the female character designs in their swimsuits.

Anyways, Cho-chang almost had his day with those three well-endowed otaku, men-crazed, girls until Mikael stole the spotlight, and Cho-chang's harem left him for Mikael.

At the end, Cho-chang could only sought consolation, though with utter loss and dissapointment, with Riko; the only girl in the main cast that thinks the old-guy is funny.

Why is it that the girls who are crazy of love are charmed with silent-type men?

There's a foreshadowing near the end of this episode that tells me no matter how much I wish for Masane and Riko to be together, but Masamune will not make it after the end.

It was the promise that the other girl who brefriended Riko, whose mother is an acquaintance of Tozawa, commented the latter. When the two halves of a seashell fit together, then you gave it as a present to your most important person and will ensure that both remain always together.

There was special details on both animation and the soundtrack, as well as a close shot at Riko's face reflecting about the seashell then looking towards Masane. The mother-daughter bonding was naturally dramatized.
I think it tells me that the more Riko-Masane's bonding is frequently focused on and further developed, the less are the chances for them to remain together at the end; it'll come as a devastating blow for Riko; a warning that Masane will sooner or later die and leaving Riko heartbroken.

Same can be said about the previous episodes foreshadowing Takeyama's death also. Before consuming her last breath, Reina told Takeyama that she'll be waiting for time when both will be together.
This could be an omen for Takeyama that his death would be inevitable but coming at long-term.

For the other serious moments that unfolded.

I cannot be certain but looks like Nishida is Wado's NSWF insider informant. However, Segawas' look and untimely comments about the Witchblade made felt uneasy. Know I can be certain that there's something fishy about 'him'.

Since Funimation seems to be going lately on getting Gonzo titles, Witchblade would make sense. Of course, I wonder why Funimation would picked up some shows that have fanservice in them (Looking at Sunabouzu and recently acquired Witchblade). Trinity Blood will be airing on Adult Swim along with Bleach this Fall as Eureka 7 takes a break. I doubt Witchblade will ever be aired on Adult Swim because of the obvious fanservice in the series and Kim Manning doesn't want to air such a series. Funimation and Top Cow Productions will definitely benefit if Witchblade will ever be aired on Adult Swim.
