I'm not going to draw any firm conclusions, but here is what Uesaka Sumire tweeted just after ep12 finished broadcasting a few hours ago: "The Tokyo MX broadcast of episode 12 of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai has ended! Thank you to everyone who watched it! Definitely, let's get together again! Death!!" Another season?

Wow Dekomori should keep her hair like that more often. Oh man Kumin delivered as the successor. Interesting idea from the DFM to send himself a letter. Totally liked how he was the cause of Rikka's chuunibyou. The ending was great for me.

12 End
hmm by some reason feel rushed and the execution is lacking. but nevertheless nice closure to epic roller coaster anime.
definitely close the plot thread nicely thought some stuff like the family problem can be done better. Sanae being ojou kinda deus ex at first but if you think of it it kinda foreshadow it bit. Sanae kinda play Ojou trope quite a lot over course of series. like have so many toys and "master". it probably also explain how Rikka get her toys. Sanae buy them for her Kumin act as messenger is nice too. thought I wonder how Rikka know that Yutta will go to her house and ask Kumin to stay at certain point so she can catch Yuuta and give him massage. Make suspicious that Rikka already plan all of this. If this is true, she kinda....masterful The ending scene is also nice too. Kinda miss that "banishment this world" so it's nice comeback. finally Rikka able to say what she want to say to her father. that scene is beautiful. although I kinda wish they develop rikka family bit more to have more effect on the ending either way. even thought they use bit of Deus Ex Machina and some part of story can be develop better. it's still one of the best anime out there. this is definitively second most favorite anime from kyoani after Haruhi

The end wasn't too bad. It was heartbreaking to see Rikka finally say good-bye to her dad. I just hope her Chuunibyou becomes something she does for fun now instead of using it to completely escape reality. Balance it between normal life and having a good time.

man i dont have word to describ how awesome was that serie, kyoni really is amazing on how to make a total original(i know this was based on the Ln but only the story base like first volume almost everthing after that was total original work), without using too many clichs who many others productors like to use just for sake of the sell and being just a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy some other generic anime, while kyoni dont need using this to get his sellings and show how they can be amazing hands down from me , and after that awesome work i need go back to watch the creep(mine total personal opnion), sakurasou omg why ppls dont try to follow kyoni instead of aways be too cliche.
now waiting for the "extra" episode because someone told before this series is 12+1(extra), maybe this means us can have even 1 more OVA after that "extra" if this series turns in a sucess like hyouka. mine second best roncom on this year was tasogare otome x amnesia , who like this dont followed a too much cliche route who i reallly hate(harem or love triangle). When Yuuta unleashed his words....and the scene changes it reminded me of Kingdom Hearts......

This episode doesn't bring enough closure to the support cast for my taste IMHO. Still, even though I try to mentally laugh at the show and tell at myself "what's with the plot direction?", I still find myself getting mightily touched by the scenes.
12 episode series like this usually get an OVA, so I'll be looking forward to that. Hopefully it will show off the support cast some more. |

The ending felt slightly rushed, but the ending ended on a happy note. But I felt that there could have been more room for development with Rikka resolving the differences between her grandfather and a bit more about her mother. The sudden appearance by everyone from the club was kind of deus ex, but it wasn't too much of a glaring issue. Isshiki and Kumin were probably the less relevant and fleshed out characters, but Sanae and Dekomori made up for it in spades with their antics.
Overall, very enjoyable series by Kyoani.

Fantastic final episode. I was "in another world" so to speak, for the second half of the episode as it just pulled me in and wouldn't let go.
Loved how the Dark Flame Master's "Banishment!" was unveiled like the ultimate attack in a shounen action series that you'd been waiting for since the first episode/chapter. Not to mention I was cheering with the exact same excitement when it happened, as I'd been looking forward to it once it became a recurring theme with the chuu2's. I will admit there was a lot the studio had to choose between to cram into the final episode, and therefore I was left more with a feeling that it was a prelude to more great fun, as opposed to closure, that I felt with Hyouka last season. Either way, I enjoyed it immensely, and truly do wish there was a whole season more. EDIT: I also want to add that the musical score in this episode was sublime. Absolutely flawless in content and placement. Personal favourites are during the "birth of the Tyrant Eye" flashback, and Rikka jumping into Yuuta's arms.

An open ending as expected, and a satisfying one at that. It all played out pretty predictably and it was a bit rushed, but it was great nonetheless.
Rikka finally got closure regarding her father's death. That was a truly beautiful scene. Yuuta finally understood thanks to Kumin -whom I didn't expect her to play that kind of role in the finale, I have to say her impersonation of Rikka the Wielder of the evil eye was perfect- that Rikka's chuunibyou wasn't only a way to escape reality. Her chuunibyou was born out of a desire to live a more fun and exciting life where she could be true to herself. I'm glad Rikka welcomed that part of herself back into her life and found balance between real life and fantasy. It was wonderful to see her so happy in the final scene. The most surprising part of the episode was definitely Dekomori. Her normal self was so beautiful and well mannered... I will never be able to look at her the same way again. She should really dump those stupid twintails (to think there would come a day where I would think twintails are bad!! My world has been turned upside down), she looks so much more elegant with her hair down. Chuunibyou might be bad after all. I liked the narrator's closing comments. Chuunibyou stays with us our whole life. It's impossible to get rid of it completely, and we could, we would probably lead dull lives. I probably wouldn't even be watching anime if there wasn't still a bit of chuunibyou in me.

To be frank, the most I got out of this episode was the amazing FX cut near the end with Yuuta reciting the BANISHMENT THIS WORLD line. Also, the letter to himself caught me off guard and was a very neat add.
But for the most part, I found the episode lacking. I don't know exactly why, maybe it was too fast paced for a finale? The climatic point didn't feel that climatic at all for me, and it was not enough of a closer. The scene with the Ethereal Horizon was as gorgeous as Hyouka's cherry blossoms in its finale, but that was much more fulfilling in context. Not to mention the narrator explaining the theme of the series to us was totally unnecessary and lessened the impact of the finale. It would have been much better if they left things like that to the viewer, really; though he had a very good voice. All in all, I'm not really satisfied with this finale. Too little sakuga porn, too little emotional resolution, too many threads hanging. It almost seems like a set up for a second season, which I hope doesn't happen since Ishihara has many more interesting things he can work on, and it would be a waste of time. All that's left now is to wait for the BD shorts and episode 13, which I hope deliver in the comedy and action department, something that was totally evaporated from the show in the second half. |

Chu2Koi 12 - I'll Resist the Universe Itself, Up Until The Very End ~It's Good to Be Unofficial~
The narrator said it better than I could. And my trust in narrators is pretty high. I remember reading before this show began that they would show how chuunibyou can be a good thing, and fun - and this episode did. The color palette is back, the magic is back, and the Unseen Horizon wasn't delaying the problem, it solved it. People always say that their loved ones are "watching them" from somewhere. Wasn't this just that, with a bit more of a dark magic bent to it? Once again, Touka's idea of "normalcy" just seems too boring and limiting and restraining. Now, Sanae being "normal" wasn't nearly as disturbing as Rikka (since it's clear she was leading everyone along with it from the start), and Shinka's reflecting basically mirrored the narrator. Kumin as the new Tyrant's Eye was highly entertaining, and Yuuta's letter to himself was a great move. Who's to say that coin doesn't really hold power? I held on a shark totem I got from the Keys for years because [I was writing a fanfic], but also because I believed in its power. That's made the latest reciting of the mantra great. As I've made rather bluntly clear from the start, I came into this show on the wings of Akibaranger. Both shows had Maaya Uchida in a leading role, and featured delusions playing a heavy role in the plot. ...and strangely, that's not the only similarity they had. Family relationships, standing up for what you believe in, being an outcast... these are themes that factor into both shows. One is a tokusatsu gag comedy and the other is a rather down-to-Earth(-ish) romcom, but I found more links than I expected... even if this was because I was intentionally looking for them. It didn't impact me as much as K-ON! (though the Tyrant's Eye will already be afflicted by the Kraken from the depths once the four-score-and-three winter festival comes to pass - but this time I'm ready), and it didn't make me laugh as much as Nichijou, but it was a very solidly produced show with some great characters. I enjoyed the first half slightly more than the second, but I'm looking forward to the OVA in a few months still. I know it was changed a fair bit from the source, but the elements that I know were added - Sanae, Kumin, the club - turned out to be some of my favorite. They provided some foils, gave the universe some weight, and generally made the show a lot more fun. Regardless of their origin, they're as valid and important to the story as any other character. In the case of Sanae, perhaps moreso. Everyone, together now. Reality, be rent! Synapse, break! Banishment, this world! |

Overall, I thought this was a very good ending.
What I liked: 1. How it incorporated the full cast. Shinka had some great lines, we got to see Kumin put on an awesome acting performance, and we got to see normal Dekomori. I think this ending did a great job of giving out useful, entertaining, and interesting roles for these characters. 2. The climatic moments on the beach. That was very well-handled. 3. Thematic strength. This anime has a theme, and it managed to convey it beautifully and very effectively, I felt. I can't say that about every anime; maybe not even most anime shows. 4. A happy ending, and Yuuta and Rikka both having to earn it. What I didn't like: 1. It felt a bit rushed. 2. I'm totally with Warm Mist on the narration at the end. This ending definitely didn't need it. What I'm mixed on: 1. The last minute plot twist of Rikka's chuunibyou being based on The Dark Flame Master as much as it was anything else. In some ways, it's an awesome plot twist. It certainly adds a lot to the Rikka/Yuuta romance. However, it's hard to swallow this never coming up before. I'm not going to say it's contrived, but it does stretch things a bit. On the whole, I'm leaning towards this being a positive, but I am biased towards plot twists. 2. How Rikka's family was handled in this episode. After this episode, they now feel like little more than plot devices to me. But maybe that's fine, and some of us just attached too much importance to them (aside from Touka herself, perhaps). On the whole, this was an entertaining ending with some nice surprises. However, I don't think it'll stick with me as much as K-On!! or Hyouka's endings will. On the whole, 8/10. That's probably my rating for the series as a whole as well.
