And so Nanoha and Fate's house was destroyed... again. But at least there were no clowns

Maybe the clown died or was blasted to bits during Vita and Signums scuffle.. along with Nanofate's house ^^;;;; He didn't even get the chance to appear before he went bye bye. poor clown....not.

Ah, ok. I'm going to conclude SWAT!Fate1 (yes, there may very well be more ) first though. And... speaking of which...

Here is part three. Pay close attention to the times stated in red; this means these events have happened previously, and not in line with the current tradition of only moving forward through the story. I'm starting to flesh out certain bits now things have got going.

Oh, and there is a slight correction to previous chapter I'd like to make: “…Vita, have some of the hostages come down to assist me in emptying this thing. And have Shamal bring the manager down. Signum, you better head back up to the lobby and ensure Zafira is ready…” The speech makes sense now.

“Nanoha,” said Hayate simply.

“Mm,” replied Nanoha, cheerfully, having removed her balaclava.

“Why did you bring me here?”

“I brought you here to chat with me.”

“Chat?! You’re robbing a bank, Nanoha!”

Nanoha held her finger to her lips, indicating Hayate should hush. “You’re my friend, Hayate. I didn’t want to harm anyone, least of all you. But, you are part of my plan. I might have to put you in danger, if you force me to. So, I’m here with a proposition.”

“What proposition?”

“Simply put; you help me, you get rich. We all live happily ever after.”

“I’m not going to help you! What on Earth happened to you Nanoha? You used to be so kind, so sweet…”

“You see this?” asked Nanoha, her voice suddenly sharp. She slipped her hand behind one of her bangs, and swept it aside to reveal a long scar on her left cheek. “I have many more like this; all over my body. This is what happened to me, Hayate.”

Silence, and then: “H-How?”

“I was screwed over. Sold out, Hayate, by my allies. I’ve had to hide – hide for so long, all my friends abandoned. My lover – forever forsaken,” she paused. “And now I’m paying them back. I’m going to take all the money I could ever spend, the money they use to wage wars, and I’m going to live happily ever.”

“Who…?”

“The Government, Hayate, screwed me. I used to be in the FBI. I was an agent when I met you… you and Fate. Fate found out; I couldn’t keep it from her, but I never let on to you,” Nanoha paused. “While I was working for them, I touched on something I shouldn’t have, and suddenly I find my contacts disappearing right and left,” she faltered. “This isn’t relevant; I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”

“N-Nanoha… what are you going to do?”

“Fate…”

“What?”

“Fate is going to come, Hayate,” continued Nanoha. “I didn’t pick this bank at random. Your employment here, and her team having jurisdiction over this area, is making this possible.”

“I’m not going to help you, Nanoha. Whatever has been done to you – however you have been hurt… I am sorry; truly, sorry. But this is wrong, and you know it; I’m not going to make it any easier for you.”

“If you don’t co-operate, and this goes wrong, it’s likely you and others will get seriously hurt. You care about Vita, don’t you? And about Signum, Shamal and Zafira?”

Hayate averted her eyes, and bit her lip. “What did you drag them into this for? Shamal had a great career here; she was destined for management! And Signum and Zafira; our friends; they were doing so well raising Vita!”

“I told them what happened to me. They were all involved in Government, except Vita of course, and when I told them what I found out they were severely disillusioned with their chosen direction. I offered them riches. They accepted, like any sane person would.”

“You’re not the Nanoha I used to know. Think of what you’re going to do to Fate when she finds out! She accepted you had died, that she had lost you. She cried for weeks, wouldn’t leave the house for months; it nearly ruined her career. But, in the end, she moved on. You’re about to bring this crashing down upon her-“

“Things change,” interrupted Nanoha. “And, Hayate, I want you to stay down here. It’ll be safest here once the guns start going off…”

“Ah, Manager, thank you for joining us,” greeted Nanoha. “Now, if you would be so kind as to open this vault…”

The manager stood tall defiantly, her arms crossed. “You have got to be joking.”

Nanoha sighed. “People carrying loaded guns rarely joke, I’m afraid. And since our schedule is tight, I’m not going to be cute about it; if you don’t open the vault in the next minute, I’m going to shoot one of these hostages,” she threatened, motioning at the crowd behind the manager. “And then one more for each minute thereafter that you refuse to co-operate.”

“But- two senior employees are needed to open the vault,” the manager protested.

“And here’s the second one,” said Signum, pulling Shamal out of the crowd of hostages, and moving her into place beside the manager. “Now, what’ll it be? Will you make this easy for us, or are we going to have to shoot… her.” Signum gestured with her AKS toward a shocked Hayate. “The death of one of your own employees would be on your shoulders.”

“I- refuse.”

“Really?” asked Signum, surprised. “Well, I guess there’s no reason to continue our first countdown, then.” She raised her assault rifle, brought it to her shoulder, and fired a burst of three rounds into Hayate’s chest.

Hayate fell forward, and the hostages screamed. All colour drained from the manager’s face. “Oh… my God,” she said simply. “Ok, ok, I’ll open the vault. Just don’t hurt anyone else.”

“Right, Signum, take the body upstairs. You know what to do,” said Nanoha. “I’m going to supervise the hostages as they empty this place.

Signum nodded.

Offices

“Element, fall in,” ordered Fate, and set off down the corridor, her team taking their place in line behind her. “Blue, check the room on the left. Team Red, take room to the right,” she said. “Mirror under the door prior to entry.

Both teams complied, and after spying no suspects, both doors were simultaneously opened, and both rooms checked carefully.

“The room’s clear.”

“This one’s clear as well.”

“Fall in, Gold,” instructed Fate. “Perform the same drill on the last two offices.”

Rooms were searched, and found to be empty. Fate radioed the command post. “We’ve cleared the upper floor and are descending to the lobby.”

“Ah, affirmative, Captain. Keep it up,” crackled the response.

Fate walked down to the end of the corridor, stopping in front of the elevator that connected the ground and top floors. “Bravos, pry this open. Keep it quiet though.”

Subaru and Caro stepped forward and together managed to slide the metal doors apart. Tia pulled a fire extinguisher from the wall and jammed it in the gap to keep the doors open.

Switching on the flashlight on the end of her G36C, Fate pointed her gun through the gap and then downwards, casting the beam about.

“Shaft is clear. I’m going down. Follow me, and keep it quiet,” she instructed, throwing her rifle’s strap over her shoulder and climbing through and down the maintenance access ladder.

Ground Floor, Rear Corridors

“Are the traps in place, Vita?” asked Zafira.

The redheaded teenager nodded before arming herself with her Glock once again. “Everything is ready.”

“Good,” concluded Zafira. “Now we wait for things to play out. And remember, Vita, aim for the legs and arms; we’re shooting, if we have to, to incapacitate, not to kill. And don’t hurt Fate, whatever you do; we need her.”

“Okay, okay,” replied Vita indignantly.

The two of them were sheltering behind a collection of overturned desks and chairs that formed a makeshift barricade that also offered rudimentary cover. In front of them, at the end of the wide corridor leading away from the bank’s lobby were the chrome elevator doors that Fate’s SWAT team would emerge from.

Hidden in the shaft itself was a motion detector, which would cause a radio, carried by Vita, to sound a harsh beep once it detected movement. Beside the doors were custom rigged concussion charges, and periodically down the corridor, hidden under red carpet, smoke mines.

“Everyone good?” asked Fate.

Tia, Subaru, Caro and Erio nodded.

“Red, can you get these doors just wide enough apart to let Caro fit an Optiwand through?”

Tia and Subaru nodded again, and pried the doors apart just far enough for Caro to mirror through the gap.

“I see a barricade, captain, but no suspects are in view. The corridor is long with no cover,” she said.

“Right,” began Fate. “Red, open that door a little more, and Blue, I want a CS grenade in there each, followed by a Flashbang each. Then follow them in and clear. Go when ready.”

Her instructions were executed with professional precision. The doors opened a little further, and two grenades spewing CS gas were hurled into the corridor, rapidly filling it and the attached rooms, and then two flashbangs, that exploded with a blinding light and deafening bang. Immediately, the doors were slid apart completely, and Fate darted through first, followed by Tia and Subaru, and then Erio and Caro.

Fate felt a bump in the carpet before she put her wait down upon it, and just avoided tripping the mine, but knocked into Subaru as she side-stepped, and her footing faltered, tripping a hidden wire. She grabbed Caro and literally hurled her smallest team member several paces down the corridor as thick purple fumes engulfed them. Someone tripped another cable in the confusion, and there was an enormous explosion from behind them. Fate felt herself lifted, and then hit something hard. She lost consciousness immediately.

Once the smoke cleared, Vita and Zafira stepped out from cover to survey their handiwork, only to narrowly miss being caught by a blast from Caro’s Nova Pump. Before Caro could fire again, Zafira had shot the already maimed SWAT member in the hand that held the shotgun.

Before she could reach her radio with her remaining functioning hand, Caro was knocked out by a well placed whack with a rifle butt.

Vita looked down at her, and then to Subaru and Tia whom had collapsed in an undignified pile, and finally to Fate, who was lying face down on the floor.

“Vita, tie the others up. I’m going to take Fate into the briefing room for Nanoha.”

Someone tripped another cable in the confusion, and there was an enormous explosion from behind them. Fate felt herself lifted, and then hit something hard. She lost consciousness immediately.

Once the smoke cleared, Vita and Zafira stepped out from cover to survey their handiwork, only to narrowly miss being caught by a blast from Caro’s Nova Pump. Before Caro could fire again, Zafira had shot the already maimed SWAT member in the hand that held the shotgun.

Before she could reach her radio with her remaining functioning hand, Caro was knocked out by a well placed whack with a rifle butt.

Vita looked down at her, and then to Subaru and Tia whom had collapsed in an undignified pile, and finally to Fate, who was lying face down on the floor.

“Vita, tie the others up. I’m going to take Fate into the briefing room for Nanoha.”

I felt it before I dropped Nanoha off at her bakery. I was being watched, and I didn't like it at all. My goodbye to my girlfriend was quick, not really wanting to stay with her any longer than I had to in case the person trailing me decided to pick a fight. I revved my bike and took off, popping my front end up for a few feet before landing again. Leaning forward, I narrowed my eyes and focused right in front of me. Cars were weaved in and out of quickly as I made my wayout of the more populated section of town and into the outskirts.

Finally, after almost ten minutes of a reckless chase, I realized that the person after me wasn't going to be lost so I instead pulled into an alleyway and cut off my bike. "So," I spoke up while taking off my helmet. The person parked next to me confidently and began taking theirs off as well. "What do I owe the pleasure?"

Orangish red hair was revealed and a girl with a pretty face looked at me. She had deep eyes and I could notice her fangs when she smirked at me. "No offense, but I'm here to kill you."

"I get that a lot." I placed my helmet down and swung my leg over the bike while my opponent did the same. She wasn't hasty, and that alone was enough to make me wonder. Most people just jumped and attacked, but this one seemed to be smarter than that. It was obvious she liked her bike, and if I wasn't about to kick her ass, I'd chat with her a while about it.

"Name's Tia." She spoke, stopping and setting her feet.

"Fate." I replied simply. "Why are you going to throw away your life, Tia?"

"Money talks." To my amazement, she pulled two objects that looked like playing cards from her pocket and flicked her wrist, makig them form into guns.

"How did you get a weapon like that? Only paladins have the technology to create those." I pulled Bardiche from between my breasts and flicked the gem, forming a staff that sucked lighting from my hand to activate.

"I am a paladin." Tia informed me with a smirk just before aiming and firing.

The bullets were faster than I expected, but still too slow to hit me. My body twisted down to avoid them and I darted forward, slashing out my scythe to cut her legs off. My swipe hit air and I had to roll several times to the side to avoid a hail of bullets that shattered the concrete beneath me where I once was.

I righted myself and slashed again, getting dodged by a straight bend backwards that quickly turned into a back flip kick. Grabbing her ankle, I slung her at the wall close by and narrowed my eyes when she flipped in the air and landed feet first, aiming once more.

Snarling, I ran forward into the rain, slashing my weapon to clear a streak through them. Tia was obviously shocked by my move and yelped when I grabbed her throat, shoving my weapon to her chest as she placed the gun against my temple. "What the hell are you?" I asked sternly, showing her clearly that I wasn't afraid if she fired or not.

"I am evolution," She replied simply, glancing down at her predicament. I used the chance to slip away and get behind her, twisting the scythe up to her neck and standing behind her. "I can ask you the same."

"I am the past," I snarled, pulling the scythe to slit her neck. Tia slipped under me by using a quick jerk to dislocate her shoulders to be able to get away from me before I killed her. Her body hit the ground and rolled, popping them both back into place and moving to shoot again.

My feet kicked from the ground to get closer but I found them snagged by string so small I didn't even notice it until they ripped clean through my leather boots and wrapped around my skin. Falling, I caught myself in time to roll to avoid several daggers that embedded into the ground. My throat was grabbed and Tia got on top of me.

Rapid gunfire rang out and I felt the energy rip into my body. Blood filled my mouth and I looked at the smirking girl in amazement. "Now," She spoke to me, voice confident. "I will drink my fill."

Are you really going to die here?

Tia flew from the alleyway, body hitting the asphalt and digging a trench in it. Two cars were hit and flipped over, sailing through the air as the limp body crashed into the building across the street and broke through the glass.

I gasped, white eyes slowly returning to normal as black feathers fell around me.

The Base itself is almost like a old Earth European castle, with a large ravine in the front of the facility, and several guard towers in view. It serves as both school, HQ, and home for the girls, and a large team of dedicated researchers, intrigued engineers, and trainee doctors all call this place home as well. Some have called the place 'an unethical prison' but most of the cyborgs simply call its home.

This is a tale of the Irregulars, or Tales of the 12th Magical Assault Tactical Division

It has been three years since the destruction of our Glorious Capital City, Flanagan, and the consequences of that battle still reign in our minds. 12 combat cyborgs and 2 mages brought us to our knees. This, in addition to the revelation that one of our loyal ground commanders not only brought this upon us, but was actively sponsoring this research has brought command as we know it into a spiral of confusion. There were calls for a "Committee on Anti-Mid-Childan activities" but after several officers from World 97 protested, based on their world's history, it was decided that the investigative forces should take command. In the wake of the Jail Scaglietti incident and the death of the high council the TSAB was thrown into a state of unease. Public support was in a decline and people were starting to believe the TSAB couldn't be relied on. So there was a vote among all of the high ranking officials of the TSAB to elect a temporary head to act as the high council and help them keep appearances with the public. General Alistair Hunter was elected to position of Acting Head of the TSAB. As acting head he had all the power that the actual head would. He was meant to be that way for a short while but ten years later he's still in power.

Urg... Alright all done with this one

Arthur Sorell belongs to Nikki the Cat. Nikki you may notice I changed a few things around with him to suit the story better.

I like Zen, his personallity is one of those characters everyone wants to see hurt badly. Such characters can always give good drama.

Syn is giving John the 'Jiiiiiiii~' treatment. Let's just hope Falling Soul doesn't become his doom.

Nanoha tossed her keys on the little stand next to the door as she entered her house and moved out of the way so Fate could follow. "I'm dreading tomorrow." The brown haired one sighed out. "I can't believe I have to grade Vivio and Syn's joint performance..."

Fate gave her a wry smile. "It'll be hard but do your best."

"Mm... I guess I should go ahead and tell them." Taking Fate's hand, she lead her into the back area into the house. "Vivioooo?" She knocked on the slightly open door and stepped inside. After taking a breath, she wrinkled hr nose. "Ugh it stinks in here."

Fate frowned and waved in front of her nose. "She probably just chunked her sweaty dirty clothes on the floor and left them there." After another inhale, she felt a small ting of red come to her face. "It smells like sweat and..." Her eyes went wide as Nanoha used the tip of her finger to lift a black latex set of panties that had a magic circle on the front. "Is that...?"

Nanoha frowned and nodded. "It's ours."

At that moment, two towel clad teenage girls came into the room, stopping their laughing when they saw the adults. Vivio's eyes went to Nanoha and the color drained from her face when she saw what was being held. "Ummm.... hello?"

"Vivio?" Nanoha said the name as a question, voice not amused.

The girl swallowed. "We... were going to wash it?"

Nanoha pointed to the messed up bed firmly. "Sit."

Syn started to sweat nervously. "Um, this is obviously a mother-daughter thing so I'll jussssst...." She trailed off when Fate stepped in front of the doorway and crossed her arms. "...Sit down too," she finished lamely.

Nanoha dropped the object and crossed her arms, glaring. "Why did you go through our stuff?" The two girls averted their eyes, not answering. "And why are you two doing such things? You're too young."

"Mama!" Vivio protested loudly. "I'm old enough to know what I'm doing!"

"No you're not!"

Syn opened her mouth before she thought. "We've been having sex for years!"

"SYN!" Vivio growled, making her girlfriend gasp and avert her eyes.

"Years!?" Nanoha gasped out, staring at them. "Please tell me you haven't been stealing our stuff for-"

"First time!" Syn interrupted, blushing at the glare she got for interrupting. "Sorry. First time," she repeated softly. "It... was my fault. I'm sorry."

Nanoha exhaled loudly and tapped her foot, looking away and chewing on her tongue. Fate took the opportunity to sit in front of the two after pulling up a chair. She slowly crossed her legs knee over knee and placed her hands over them. "Girls," Her voice was soft and gentle.

Both teens jerked back in horror, eyes going wide. 'Oh shit,' Vivio thought frantically. Her eyes glanced nervously to Syn, who was just as scared.

"Now," Fate continued in her gentle motherly tone. "I know you two are at the age where-"

"We're sorry!" Both of them screamed at the same time.

Fate calmly waited for them to settle down before continuing. "You like to experiment, but there are a few things you mustn't do-"

Nanoha watched in amazement as her wife calmly spoke to the girls, who were almost crying. 'I'll never understand how I can yell at them until I'm blue in the face and they'll turn around and do it again, but when Fate just... SITS... there and talks to them, they cry and beg for forgiveness...'

"...Okay?" Fate finished up, getting nods from the throughly embarrassed girls who were sniffing. "Good. I'm glad we had this talk." She pat both of them on the shoulders. "I believe you have something to say to Nanoha?"

"We're sorry," Both spoke again, voices meaning it. Vivio continued where they left off: "I'll never go through your things agian, Nanoha-mama."

Sighing, Nanoha nodded and looked at the latex panties. "Please wash that with bleach."

"Hey," Syn protested, a little offended. "I don't have any diseases."

Nanoha glared. "I don't want my daughter's juices all over it when I put it on."

"She liked it with yours," Syn countered, getting gasps from everyone.

Vivio smacked her friend upside the head. " Learn when to shut up!!"

"...Sorry." She rubbed her already sore head. "...We'll clean it."

Fate took some money out of her purse and gave it to Vivio. "Here... An allowance advance. If you truely want to make love to each other, buy your own. Okay?"

"...Yes mama." Vivio took the money and blushed.

The two parents nodded at each other and left the room closing the door.

Syn smirked and looked at the money. "Wanna go shopping?"

"Oh yeah!" Vivio gave her friend a high-five.

Signum was sitting on her bed in the twilight of the summer night. Slowly taking another sip from the drink in her hand she let out a soft sigh. Today had been a long day, for some reason she ended up with lots of paperwork to do and if there was one thing she hated above all else, paperwork was it. She came very close to just using Laevatein and slicing it all in half if it wasn’t for the overwhelming logic stating it would just be replaced and then increased after the un-authorised use of magic in the office.

She shifted slightly so one leg was crossed under the other as she took another slow sip of her cool drink. The only good thing about today was lunch, plus there was the bonus of having Testarossa as company. She never really understood why, but they always seemed to be able to comprehend one another with only the smallest of actions if anything it all. When she walked into the office today, she could tell she was thinking about Nanoha, that’s the only possible reason that could bring such a sad expression into view without her knowing. When she had walked into the office, she had actually stopped for a second or two before approaching the girl, just surveying her. Signum couldn’t explain the sudden pang that went through her at seeing Testarossa like that, she just acted instinctively to get her out of it the only way she knew how – witty banter.

That thought caused a small chuckle to escape her lips. ‘Making Testarossa happy by teasing her senseless, great way to put a smile on her face Signum’ she brought a hand to her face to hide her mirth as she gently placed the drink on the bedside table. Some tattered clothes were visible in the corner, along with some makeshift pj’s causing some of the memories of last night to come back to her. Heat started to rise to her cheeks as she remembers the bath and the clothes show as well as the lingerie. ‘I can’t believe she saw my collection! She will bring that up at some point to inflict maximum embarrassment I’ll bet!’ another soft sigh was elicited as Signum fell back on her bed spread eagle staring back up at the ceiling.

More and more thoughts kept recurring through her head, the seemingly dominant ones being the ones of Testarossa in very little clothing. Signum shook her head roughly to try and shake them but to no avail, it seemed like she was watching an old earth movie and it was just jammed on a particular snapshot. Signum physically growled at this point, if it wasn’t enough that the blonde had encroached on her life last night, she had now expanded to her head. ‘Why can I not get Testarossa off my mind!’

Signum needed to get her head set otherwise sleep would not be visiting her tonight. She was too awake now, she needed to tire herself out. A quick flashback to a present she had received from Hayate before she had left a while back caused a sudden heat wave to hit her cheeks. ‘I can’t believe I’m resorting to…to this!’

Signum slowly turned on her stomach and pulled herself to the end of the bed and ducked her head over the side. There it was, exactly in the box it had come in, white and unmarked, about the size of a shoe box. She gently pulled it out and slowly removed the lid and placed it next to it on the floor. There it lay, in all its glory, neon pink with yellow streaks. Unused. More heat rushed to her face as she slowly reached a shaking hand out to the device. ‘At least I can find out what all the fuss is about.’ Signum mused as she quickly dived under her covers.

Fate was drifting through the night sky not really sure where she was going. She was floating on her back, a simple levitation and invisibility spell cast on her as she wandered through the warm breeze. Her thoughts had been revolving around her new relationship with Nanoha. It was new because it could never be what it was before, and it could never be what she wanted it to be either. It was like some limbo, neither here nor there. Nanoha would be aware of her feelings and now maybe more alert, or accepting? That she didn’t know. Nanoha had always been the one that was there for her, she brought her from the darkness, gave her life and friends, a gentle smile and a warm hand to hold. To Fate, Nanoha was the most important person in her life, simply because she made up such a big part of the life she had gained. Fate then let her thoughts begin to turn a little more negative and self reprimanding. ‘Does that mean all I felt for Nanoha was infatuation? Or was it love? I know of family love from Lindy and Chrono, but romantic love? I was so sure that’s what I felt for Nanoha, how can I be sure that it was? I definitely feel incredibly hurt that I was rejected does that classify it as love? Mou I’m not getting any sleep tonight’

Fate slowly withdrew herself from her thoughts and turned back around to face the town below. Somehow, she had ended up circling above Signum’s apartment, it was directly below her. She would recognise that balcony anywhere, what with its assortment of wooden kendo swords in the corner and single chair next to a table rather than two. She didn’t think it was that late, and Signum may be awake still, technically it’s the weekend. She slowly descended onto the balcony, spells dispersing.

What greeted her eyes was not what she was hoping for, Signum was lying in bed on her side, facing away from her, hair splayed across the bed. ‘Mou, Signum’s already asleep, it’s only midnight!’ Fate sighed slightly. ‘Why did I want to see her so badly? I mean I know she helped me through last night and we-‘ Fate blushed as she remembered some of the events, some more vivid than she would have liked. Movement caught her eye in the bedroom as Signum now turned towards her, her eyes were closed and her mouth was open ever so slightly, it seemed her breathing was heavily laboured through the window, ‘maybe she’s having a nightmare?’

Signum then turned again lying on her back, the leg nearest to Fate arched up creating some sort of tent obscuring everything beyond from view. ‘Her breathing really is heavy her chest is-‘ Fate stopped herself before she let that thought carry on and shook her head to clear it. While she was distracted, a loud groan would have been just audible had Fate been concentrating, however she did not miss the sudden shriek that followed. Fate’s eyes darted open after hearing it and before she could stop herself she had wrenched open the balcony door and ran over to the side of Signum’s bed both hands placed on the shoulders of the blue eyed woman now staring up at her in complete disbelief. “Signum it’s ok it was just a nightmare, you don’t need to worry!”

‘What’s going on! Why is Testarossa here! Did she just watch me do-‘

Signum’s mind was a complete whirlwind followed by the brightest blush you could have possibly imagined. Luckily she had managed to switch the device off during Fate’s rapid speech to stop the noise, just catching the end of it.

“Testarossa! What are you doing here!” Signum retrieved one hand and held the covers firmly against her. She was not decent right now, and definitely not dry either.

Fate finally realised what a bizarre situation she was in. She had acted without thinking, barged into her friends bedroom without her knowing she was here and grabbed her shoulders. Stuttering slightly she tried to give an explanation of sorts.

“Well you see, I couldn’t sleep so I decided to just get some air and think about …. Things when I finally came to my senses I was kinda near your house.” ‘I can’t tell her I was directly above it!!’ “So I thought I’d come pay you a visit, when I landed on your balcony you were sleeping, but then you turned over and your breathing was kind of heavy, then when I heard the shriek I thought you were having a nightmare so I acted without thinking……sorry Signum”

Signum’s mouth was opening and closing like a goldfish. ‘She…..she….thought I was having a nightmare!!! But she has actually been watching me…me…’ Signum closed her eyes and the blush became deeper as she began to get aroused again. ‘What am I thinking, this is Testarossa! She loves Nanoha, I should not be thinking about her watching me, aggh Hayates corrupted me without me knowing! I’m turning into a hen-‘ “Are you ok Signum?”

Signum realised she hadn’t given the blonde a response. She managed to choke out an ok and a thanks for her concern, as well as not really remembering what the ‘nightmare’ was about.

“Say Signum?”

Signum then proceeded to look at the blonde who was now scuffling her feet and looking down slightly. ‘She looks adorable like that…wait what?’

“I couldn’t sleep at home, I was on the couch as I couldn’t sleep with Nanoha in the bed, can I stay here again?”

Signum’s mouth dropped open for what had to be the umpteenth time in the last ten minutes. How was she going to get out of this one?

She did not miss the sudden shriek that followed. Fate’s eyes darted open after hearing it and before she could stop herself she had wrenched open the balcony door and ran over to the side of Signum’s bed both hands placed on the shoulders of the blue eyed woman now staring up at her in complete disbelief. “Signum it’s ok it was just a nightmare, you don’t need to worry! Wait….Signum, what’s that noise?”

“Testarossa what ar-”

“Shh, there’s something here….” Fate suddenly pulled out a magnifying glass and a Sherlock Holmes hat out of nowhere, it was quite the site with her black skimpy barrier jacket. All of a sudden a white burst of light crashed through the balcony window.

“This looks like a job for Detective!Nanoha!”

Suddenly glares were exchanged as Sherlock!Fate and Detective!Nanoha began to square off.

The whirring was still continuing as a small movement became noticeable on the bed, both investigators chorused an “AHA!” pointing at the culprit before both pulled a hand to the duvet and pulled it off at ludicrous speed.

*GASP*

Both detectives were flabbergasted, there in-between Signums legs was…..

Both of them came too a little while later finding themselves strapped to a wall. Lacking much clothing apart from there lingerie.

It was dark and suddenly a light shone on them causing them both to blink and look away, but a voice caught their attention.

"You both like cases to solve eh? well how about this"

The figure stepped closer so it could be seen. Signum was present as well as Vita who looked a little uncomfortable, with Hayate at the helm.

"I've been developing this little bit of technology as a way of punishing mages who are too powerful for regular discipline measures, it was made with you two in mind especially."

Both Investigators look concerned, what was that in Hayates hand.

She turned and gave one of each to Signum and Vita who both walked up to the two restrained aces. Showing them the device with its name printed on its side.

Fate squinted to read it...."Magic Futa Pill....."

The Three aces were not seen for days.

Here is part three. Pay close attention to the times stated in red; this means these events have happened previously, and not in line with the current tradition of only moving forward through the story. I'm starting to flesh out certain bits now things have got going.

Oh, and there is a slight correction to previous chapter I'd like to make: “…Vita, have some of the hostages come down to assist me in emptying this thing. And have Shamal bring the manager down. Signum, you better head back up to the lobby and ensure Zafira is ready…” The speech makes sense now.

“Nanoha,” said Hayate simply.

“Mm,” replied Nanoha, cheerfully, having removed her balaclava.

“Why did you bring me here?”

“I brought you here to chat with me.”

“Chat?! You’re robbing a bank, Nanoha!”

Nanoha held her finger to her lips, indicating Hayate should hush. “You’re my friend, Hayate. I didn’t want to harm anyone, least of all you. But, you are part of my plan. I might have to put you in danger, if you force me to. So, I’m here with a proposition.”

“What proposition?”

“Simply put; you help me, you get rich. We all live happily ever after.”

“I’m not going to help you! What on Earth happened to you Nanoha? You used to be so kind, so sweet…”

“You see this?” asked Nanoha, her voice suddenly sharp. She slipped her hand behind one of her bangs, and swept it aside to reveal a long scar on her left cheek. “I have many more like this; all over my body. This is what happened to me, Hayate.”

Silence, and then: “H-How?”

“I was screwed over. Sold out, Hayate, by my allies. I’ve had to hide – hide for so long, all my friends abandoned. My lover – forever forsaken,” she paused. “And now I’m paying them back. I’m going to take all the money I could ever spend, the money they use to wage wars, and I’m going to live happily ever.”

“Who…?”

“The Government, Hayate, screwed me. I used to be in the FBI. I was an agent when I met you… you and Fate. Fate found out; I couldn’t keep it from her, but I never let on to you,” Nanoha paused. “While I was working for them, I touched on something I shouldn’t have, and suddenly I find my contacts disappearing right and left,” she faltered. “This isn’t relevant; I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”

“N-Nanoha… what are you going to do?”

“Fate…”

“What?”

“Fate is going to come, Hayate,” continued Nanoha. “I didn’t pick this bank at random. Your employment here, and her team having jurisdiction over this area, is making this possible.”

“I’m not going to help you, Nanoha. Whatever has been done to you – however you have been hurt… I am sorry; truly, sorry. But this is wrong, and you know it; I’m not going to make it any easier for you.”

“If you don’t co-operate, and this goes wrong, it’s likely you and others will get seriously hurt. You care about Vita, don’t you? And about Signum, Shamal and Zafira?”

Hayate averted her eyes, and bit her lip. “What did you drag them into this for? Shamal had a great career here; she was destined for management! And Signum and Zafira; our friends; they were doing so well raising Vita!”

“I told them what happened to me. They were all involved in Government, except Vita of course, and when I told them what I found out they were severely disillusioned with their chosen direction. I offered them riches. They accepted, like any sane person would.”

“You’re not the Nanoha I used to know. Think of what you’re going to do to Fate when she finds out! She accepted you had died, that she had lost you. She cried for weeks, wouldn’t leave the house for months; it nearly ruined her career. But, in the end, she moved on. You’re about to bring this crashing down upon her-“

“Things change,” interrupted Nanoha. “And, Hayate, I want you to stay down here. It’ll be safest here once the guns start going off…”

“Ah, Manager, thank you for joining us,” greeted Nanoha. “Now, if you would be so kind as to open this vault…”

The manager stood tall defiantly, her arms crossed. “You have got to be joking.”

Nanoha sighed. “People carrying loaded guns rarely joke, I’m afraid. And since our schedule is tight, I’m not going to be cute about it; if you don’t open the vault in the next minute, I’m going to shoot one of these hostages,” she threatened, motioning at the crowd behind the manager. “And then one more for each minute thereafter that you refuse to co-operate.”

“But- two senior employees are needed to open the vault,” the manager protested.

“And here’s the second one,” said Signum, pulling Shamal out of the crowd of hostages, and moving her into place beside the manager. “Now, what’ll it be? Will you make this easy for us, or are we going to have to shoot… her.” Signum gestured with her AKS toward a shocked Hayate. “The death of one of your own employees would be on your shoulders.”

“I- refuse.”

“Really?” asked Signum, surprised. “Well, I guess there’s no reason to continue our first countdown, then.” She raised her assault rifle, brought it to her shoulder, and fired a burst of three rounds into Hayate’s chest.

Hayate fell forward, and the hostages screamed. All colour drained from the manager’s face. “Oh… my God,” she said simply. “Ok, ok, I’ll open the vault. Just don’t hurt anyone else.”

“Right, Signum, take the body upstairs. You know what to do,” said Nanoha. “I’m going to supervise the hostages as they empty this place.

Signum nodded.

Offices

“Element, fall in,” ordered Fate, and set off down the corridor, her team taking their place in line behind her. “Blue, check the room on the left. Team Red, take room to the right,” she said. “Mirror under the door prior to entry.

Both teams complied, and after spying no suspects, both doors were simultaneously opened, and both rooms checked carefully.

“The room’s clear.”

“This one’s clear as well.”

“Fall in, Gold,” instructed Fate. “Perform the same drill on the last two offices.”

Rooms were searched, and found to be empty. Fate radioed the command post. “We’ve cleared the upper floor and are descending to the lobby.”

“Ah, affirmative, Captain. Keep it up,” crackled the response.

Fate walked down to the end of the corridor, stopping in front of the elevator that connected the ground and top floors. “Bravos, pry this open. Keep it quiet though.”

Subaru and Caro stepped forward and together managed to slide the metal doors apart. Tia pulled a fire extinguisher from the wall and jammed it in the gap to keep the doors open.

Switching on the flashlight on the end of her G36C, Fate pointed her gun through the gap and then downwards, casting the beam about.

“Shaft is clear. I’m going down. Follow me, and keep it quiet,” she instructed, throwing her rifle’s strap over her shoulder and climbing through and down the maintenance access ladder.

Ground Floor, Rear Corridors

“Are the traps in place, Vita?” asked Zafira.

The redheaded teenager nodded before arming herself with her Glock once again. “Everything is ready.”

“Good,” concluded Zafira. “Now we wait for things to play out. And remember, Vita, aim for the legs and arms; we’re shooting, if we have to, to incapacitate, not to kill. And don’t hurt Fate, whatever you do; we need her.”

“Okay, okay,” replied Vita indignantly.

The two of them were sheltering behind a collection of overturned desks and chairs that formed a makeshift barricade that also offered rudimentary cover. In front of them, at the end of the wide corridor leading away from the bank’s lobby were the chrome elevator doors that Fate’s SWAT team would emerge from.

Hidden in the shaft itself was a motion detector, which would cause a radio, carried by Vita, to sound a harsh beep once it detected movement. Beside the doors were custom rigged concussion charges, and periodically down the corridor, hidden under red carpet, smoke mines.

Elevator Shaft

“Everyone good?” asked Fate.

Tia, Subaru, Caro and Erio nodded.

“Red, can you get these doors just wide enough apart to let Caro fit an Optiwand through?”

Tia and Subaru nodded again, and pried the doors apart just far enough for Caro to mirror through the gap.

“I see a barricade, captain, but no suspects are in view. The corridor is long with no cover,” she said.

“Right,” began Fate. “Red, open that door a little more, and Blue, I want a CS grenade in there each, followed by a Flashbang each. Then follow them in and clear. Go when ready.”

Her instructions were executed with professional precision. The doors opened a little further, and two grenades spewing CS gas were hurled into the corridor, rapidly filling it and the attached rooms, and then two flashbangs, that exploded with a blinding light and deafening bang. Immediately, the doors were slid apart completely, and Fate darted through first, followed by Tia and Subaru, and then Erio and Caro.

Fate felt a bump in the carpet before she put her wait down upon it, and just avoided tripping the mine, but knocked into Subaru as she side-stepped, and her footing faltered, tripping a hidden wire. She grabbed Caro and literally hurled her smallest team member several paces down the corridor as thick purple fumes engulfed them. Someone tripped another cable in the confusion, and there was an enormous explosion from behind them. Fate felt herself lifted, and then hit something hard. She lost consciousness immediately.

Once the smoke cleared, Vita and Zafira stepped out from cover to survey their handiwork, only to narrowly miss being caught by a blast from Caro’s Nova Pump. Before Caro could fire again, Zafira had shot the already maimed SWAT member in the hand that held the shotgun.

Before she could reach her radio with her remaining functioning hand, Caro was knocked out by a well placed whack with a rifle butt.

Vita looked down at her, and then to Subaru and Tia whom had collapsed in an undignified pile, and finally to Fate, who was lying face down on the floor.

“Vita, tie the others up. I’m going to take Fate into the briefing room for Nanoha.”

So now Nanoha has both Hayate and Fate. This is going to be interesting. :3

“Ms. Harlaown, I just need for you to initial here, sign here, and put your military identification number below the red line.”

Fate flipped through the pages trying to follow the insurance agent’s instructions.

“BELOW the red line, Ms. Harlaown,” the agent corrected her.

“Heh…heh…sorry,” Fate smiled and quickly corrected her mistake.

The blond could hear the grandfather clock tick as well as the scratches of her pen while the unsmiling agent eyed her like a vulture.

“Now, I need you to read over our company’s claim policy before we go any further,” said the agent.

He handed her a clipboard with at least ten pages of very small print. Fate’s brow furrowed as her brain strained to comprehend the polysyllabic words that were crumpled into long clauses, but the foot rubbing up against her leg suddenly distracted her.

Stop that! I have to concentrate! Fate told the girl next to her telepathically.

But I’m BORED! Answered the girl next to her in the same manner, We’ve been here for five hours. I’m hungry and bored. Bored, bored, bored…

“Are you alright, Ms. Harlaown?” the agent asked from across the table.

“Sorry, zoned out for a second,” blushed Fate.

She then sent an evil glare at Nanoha who was busy telepathically singing to Fate

Please, shut up and let me read this or else we’ll never get our house fixed, pleaded Fate as she tried to read the same line for the fourth time.

Fate gave up on trying to read and signed the line on the last page.

“You are aware, Ms. Harlaown, that your insurance coverage does include “Acts of God.” I think your claim would best fit under there.”

Fate nodded as Nanoha kicked her feet back and forth in her chair. The agent typed slowly on the video monitor.

Fate, I’m starving.

Go get something to eat. I’ll call you when I’m done.

There might be a clown.

Fate sighed and accepted another pile of forms from the insurance agent.

My lipgloss is bored! My lipgloss is-

“Will you excuse us for a moment?” said Fate to the agent.

“Look at the time. Certainly,” he mumbled.

Fate grabbed Nanoha’s arm and walked with her to the lobby.

“You stay here, or go somewhere till I’m done,” the annoyed blond commanded.

“Mou, Fate-chan…” pleaded Nanoha.

Fate turned around and slammed the agent’s office door. Nanoha pouted and looked for something to entertain her. She skimmed through the magazines but couldn’t find anything that deviated from cars or houses.

‘What I wouldn’t give for MCosmo!’ she moped.

A table full of children’s toys caught her attention, and she began to turn the crank on the side of a colorful box toy. A little melody came from her effort.

"Hey! I know this song! All around the Mulberry bush, the monkey chased the weasel…”

She laughed as she tried to remember all the words to the old children’s song.

“The monkey stopped to pull up his sock, Pop-“

A lid of the box sprung open with a loud “clunk,” a tiny figure on a spring zoomed toward Nanoha’s face.

Nanoha sat in shock with her blue eyes bulging at the smiling figure with a painted face and a red nose that bobbed back and forth from the box.

“F-F-F-Faaate?” Nanoha gasped just above a whisper.

Fate was signing the last form, and her stomach growled loudly as it longed for the end of the long day. Fate ignored the sounds of scuttling from the lobby until she heard a panicked yell.

“STARLIGHT BREAKER!”

BOOM

Fate coughed and opened her eyes when she was sure that the pink-ray of doom was over. She gasped when she realized that the insurance office was completely destroyed. The agent sat as his desk as if nothing happened though he was covered in black debris, and his office walls were lying on the ground. The birds chirped overhead, and agent reached in his desk and pulled out another pile of forms.

“Please have a seat, Ms. Harlaown. I need you to fill out a few forms for this,” he said motioning to a tree that used to have a wall in front of it.

“Nanoha…” Fate groaned.

Wohoo, it's finally here, the next chapter. Onwards to the review!

It was funny to see Albrecht Dürer's engraving of the Four Riders of the Apocalypse on page 26. When I got to that page I was like: 'What the? I've seen this before somewhere!'. There seems to be a recurring theme with the Four Horsemen, it'll be interesting to see where it leads. What's happening in this chapter is worry-some: the incident with Vita and Signum having such a hard time defeating that thing. Laevantein in Bogen Form is such a rare thing to see, that it was a real nice touch. Not much to say about the monsters this time - the concern was greater on weather they would get defeated or not and what would happen to Signum and Vita respectively. Is it just me, or are they getting stronger by the chapter? Cause if so, I'm seeing HUGE problems unless Nanoha, Fate, Zaeta and Signum mob together.If they get separated again...ouch.

Can't wait for the next chapter. The cliffhanger this time was... nasty!

“Nanoha,” said Hayate simply.

“Mm,” replied Nanoha, cheerfully, having removed her balaclava.

“Why did you bring me here?”

“I brought you here to chat with me.”

“Chat?! You’re robbing a bank, Nanoha!”

Nanoha held her finger to her lips, indicating Hayate should hush. “You’re my friend, Hayate. I didn’t want to harm anyone, least of all you. But, you are part of my plan. I might have to put you in danger, if you force me to. So, I’m here with a proposition.”

“What proposition?”

“Simply put; you help me, you get rich. We all live happily ever after.”

“I’m not going to help you! What on Earth happened to you Nanoha? You used to be so kind, so sweet…”

“You see this?” asked Nanoha, her voice suddenly sharp. She slipped her hand behind one of her bangs, and swept it aside to reveal a long scar on her left cheek. “I have many more like this; all over my body. This is what happened to me, Hayate.”

Silence, and then: “H-How?”

“I was screwed over. Sold out, Hayate, by my allies. I’ve had to hide – hide for so long, all my friends abandoned. My lover – forever forsaken,” she paused. “And now I’m paying them back. I’m going to take all the money I could ever spend, the money they use to wage wars, and I’m going to live happily ever.”

“Who…?”

“The Government, Hayate, screwed me. I used to be in the FBI. I was an agent when I met you… you and Fate. Fate found out; I couldn’t keep it from her, but I never let on to you,” Nanoha paused. “While I was working for them, I touched on something I shouldn’t have, and suddenly I find my contacts disappearing right and left,” she faltered. “This isn’t relevant; I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”

“N-Nanoha… what are you going to do?”

“Fate…”

“What?”

“Fate is going to come, Hayate,” continued Nanoha. “I didn’t pick this bank at random. Your employment here, and her team having jurisdiction over this area, is making this possible.”

“I’m not going to help you, Nanoha. Whatever has been done to you – however you have been hurt… I am sorry; truly, sorry. But this is wrong, and you know it; I’m not going to make it any easier for you.”

“If you don’t co-operate, and this goes wrong, it’s likely you and others will get seriously hurt. You care about Vita, don’t you? And about Signum, Shamal and Zafira?”

Hayate averted her eyes, and bit her lip. “What did you drag them into this for? Shamal had a great career here; she was destined for management! And Signum and Zafira; our friends; they were doing so well raising Vita!”

“I told them what happened to me. They were all involved in Government, except Vita of course, and when I told them what I found out they were severely disillusioned with their chosen direction. I offered them riches. They accepted, like any sane person would.”

“You’re not the Nanoha I used to know. Think of what you’re going to do to Fate when she finds out! She accepted you had died, that she had lost you. She cried for weeks, wouldn’t leave the house for months; it nearly ruined her career. But, in the end, she moved on. You’re about to bring this crashing down upon her-“

“Things change,” interrupted Nanoha. “And, Hayate, I want you to stay down here. It’ll be safest here once the guns start going off…”

“Ah, Manager, thank you for joining us,” greeted Nanoha. “Now, if you would be so kind as to open this vault…”

The manager stood tall defiantly, her arms crossed. “You have got to be joking.”

Nanoha sighed. “People carrying loaded guns rarely joke, I’m afraid. And since our schedule is tight, I’m not going to be cute about it; if you don’t open the vault in the next minute, I’m going to shoot one of these hostages,” she threatened, motioning at the crowd behind the manager. “And then one more for each minute thereafter that you refuse to co-operate.”

“But- two senior employees are needed to open the vault,” the manager protested.

“And here’s the second one,” said Signum, pulling Shamal out of the crowd of hostages, and moving her into place beside the manager. “Now, what’ll it be? Will you make this easy for us, or are we going to have to shoot… her.” Signum gestured with her AKS toward a shocked Hayate. “The death of one of your own employees would be on your shoulders.”

“I- refuse.”

“Really?” asked Signum, surprised. “Well, I guess there’s no reason to continue our first countdown, then.” She raised her assault rifle, brought it to her shoulder, and fired a burst of three rounds into Hayate’s chest.

Hayate fell forward, and the hostages screamed. All colour drained from the manager’s face. “Oh… my God,” she said simply. “Ok, ok, I’ll open the vault. Just don’t hurt anyone else.”

“Right, Signum, take the body upstairs. You know what to do,” said Nanoha. “I’m going to supervise the hostages as they empty this place.

Signum nodded.

Offices

“Element, fall in,” ordered Fate, and set off down the corridor, her team taking their place in line behind her. “Blue, check the room on the left. Team Red, take room to the right,” she said. “Mirror under the door prior to entry.

Both teams complied, and after spying no suspects, both doors were simultaneously opened, and both rooms checked carefully.

“The room’s clear.”

“This one’s clear as well.”

“Fall in, Gold,” instructed Fate. “Perform the same drill on the last two offices.”

Rooms were searched, and found to be empty. Fate radioed the command post. “We’ve cleared the upper floor and are descending to the lobby.”

“Ah, affirmative, Captain. Keep it up,” crackled the response.

Fate walked down to the end of the corridor, stopping in front of the elevator that connected the ground and top floors. “Bravos, pry this open. Keep it quiet though.”

Subaru and Caro stepped forward and together managed to slide the metal doors apart. Tia pulled a fire extinguisher from the wall and jammed it in the gap to keep the doors open.

Switching on the flashlight on the end of her G36C, Fate pointed her gun through the gap and then downwards, casting the beam about.

“Shaft is clear. I’m going down. Follow me, and keep it quiet,” she instructed, throwing her rifle’s strap over her shoulder and climbing through and down the maintenance access ladder.

Ground Floor, Rear Corridors

“Are the traps in place, Vita?” asked Zafira.

The redheaded teenager nodded before arming herself with her Glock once again. “Everything is ready.”

“Good,” concluded Zafira. “Now we wait for things to play out. And remember, Vita, aim for the legs and arms; we’re shooting, if we have to, to incapacitate, not to kill. And don’t hurt Fate, whatever you do; we need her.”

“Okay, okay,” replied Vita indignantly.

The two of them were sheltering behind a collection of overturned desks and chairs that formed a makeshift barricade that also offered rudimentary cover. In front of them, at the end of the wide corridor leading away from the bank’s lobby were the chrome elevator doors that Fate’s SWAT team would emerge from.

Hidden in the shaft itself was a motion detector, which would cause a radio, carried by Vita, to sound a harsh beep once it detected movement. Beside the doors were custom rigged concussion charges, and periodically down the corridor, hidden under red carpet, smoke mines.

Elevator Shaft

“Everyone good?” asked Fate.

Tia, Subaru, Caro and Erio nodded.

“Red, can you get these doors just wide enough apart to let Caro fit an Optiwand through?”

Tia and Subaru nodded again, and pried the doors apart just far enough for Caro to mirror through the gap.

“I see a barricade, captain, but no suspects are in view. The corridor is long with no cover,” she said.

“Right,” began Fate. “Red, open that door a little more, and Blue, I want a CS grenade in there each, followed by a Flashbang each. Then follow them in and clear. Go when ready.”

Her instructions were executed with professional precision. The doors opened a little further, and two grenades spewing CS gas were hurled into the corridor, rapidly filling it and the attached rooms, and then two flashbangs, that exploded with a blinding light and deafening bang. Immediately, the doors were slid apart completely, and Fate darted through first, followed by Tia and Subaru, and then Erio and Caro.

Fate felt a bump in the carpet before she put her wait down upon it, and just avoided tripping the mine, but knocked into Subaru as she side-stepped, and her footing faltered, tripping a hidden wire. She grabbed Caro and literally hurled her smallest team member several paces down the corridor as thick purple fumes engulfed them. Someone tripped another cable in the confusion, and there was an enormous explosion from behind them. Fate felt herself lifted, and then hit something hard. She lost consciousness immediately.

Once the smoke cleared, Vita and Zafira stepped out from cover to survey their handiwork, only to narrowly miss being caught by a blast from Caro’s Nova Pump. Before Caro could fire again, Zafira had shot the already maimed SWAT member in the hand that held the shotgun.

Before she could reach her radio with her remaining functioning hand, Caro was knocked out by a well placed whack with a rifle butt.

Vita looked down at her, and then to Subaru and Tia whom had collapsed in an undignified pile, and finally to Fate, who was lying face down on the floor.

“Vita, tie the others up. I’m going to take Fate into the briefing room for Nanoha.”

Well, Fate was captured and Nanoha is scared XP

I felt it before I dropped Nanoha off at her bakery. I was being watched, and I didn't like it at all. My goodbye to my girlfriend was quick, not really wanting to stay with her any longer than I had to in case the person trailing me decided to pick a fight. I revved my bike and took off, popping my front end up for a few feet before landing again. Leaning forward, I narrowed my eyes and focused right in front of me. Cars were weaved in and out of quickly as I made my wayout of the more populated section of town and into the outskirts.

Finally, after almost ten minutes of a reckless chase, I realized that the person after me wasn't going to be lost so I instead pulled into an alleyway and cut off my bike. "So," I spoke up while taking off my helmet. The person parked next to me confidently and began taking theirs off as well. "What do I owe the pleasure?"

Orangish red hair was revealed and a girl with a pretty face looked at me. She had deep eyes and I could notice her fangs when she smirked at me. "No offense, but I'm here to kill you."

"I get that a lot." I placed my helmet down and swung my leg over the bike while my opponent did the same. She wasn't hasty, and that alone was enough to make me wonder. Most people just jumped and attacked, but this one seemed to be smarter than that. It was obvious she liked her bike, and if I wasn't about to kick her ass, I'd chat with her a while about it.

"Name's Tia." She spoke, stopping and setting her feet.

"Fate." I replied simply. "Why are you going to throw away your life, Tia?"

"Money talks." To my amazement, she pulled two objects that looked like playing cards from her pocket and flicked her wrist, makig them form into guns.

"How did you get a weapon like that? Only paladins have the technology to create those." I pulled Bardiche from between my breasts and flicked the gem, forming a staff that sucked lighting from my hand to activate.

"I am a paladin." Tia informed me with a smirk just before aiming and firing.

The bullets were faster than I expected, but still too slow to hit me. My body twisted down to avoid them and I darted forward, slashing out my scythe to cut her legs off. My swipe hit air and I had to roll several times to the side to avoid a hail of bullets that shattered the concrete beneath me where I once was.

I righted myself and slashed again, getting dodged by a straight bend backwards that quickly turned into a back flip kick. Grabbing her ankle, I slung her at the wall close by and narrowed my eyes when she flipped in the air and landed feet first, aiming once more.

Snarling, I ran forward into the rain, slashing my weapon to clear a streak through them. Tia was obviously shocked by my move and yelped when I grabbed her throat, shoving my weapon to her chest as she placed the gun against my temple. "What the hell are you?" I asked sternly, showing her clearly that I wasn't afraid if she fired or not.

"I am evolution," She replied simply, glancing down at her predicament. I used the chance to slip away and get behind her, twisting the scythe up to her neck and standing behind her. "I can ask you the same."

"I am the past," I snarled, pulling the scythe to slit her neck. Tia slipped under me by using a quick jerk to dislocate her shoulders to be able to get away from me before I killed her. Her body hit the ground and rolled, popping them both back into place and moving to shoot again.

My feet kicked from the ground to get closer but I found them snagged by string so small I didn't even notice it until they ripped clean through my leather boots and wrapped around my skin. Falling, I caught myself in time to roll to avoid several daggers that embedded into the ground. My throat was grabbed and Tia got on top of me.

Rapid gunfire rang out and I felt the energy rip into my body. Blood filled my mouth and I looked at the smirking girl in amazement. "Now," She spoke to me, voice confident. "I will drink my fill."

Are you really going to die here?

Tia flew from the alleyway, body hitting the asphalt and digging a trench in it. Two cars were hit and flipped over, sailing through the air as the limp body crashed into the building across the street and broke through the glass.

I gasped, white eyes slowly returning to normal as black feathers fell around me.

“It’s time!”

“Time?” echoed Nanoha.

“To watch the movie,” clarified Fate.

“Oh, okay. It’s pretty late though, Fate, shouldn’t we leave it for tomorrow?”

“Nonsense; this is the time one is supposed to watch these films.”

Fate rearranged the cushions on Nanoha’s sofa for optimum comfort, patted the seat to indicate Nanoha should sit, and crawled over to the TV on her knees, switched it on, and put her DVD in the player.

With a piercing shriek from the TV’s speakers, two letters appeared in bold, cracked red font on the screen: ‘IT’. Fate ran to switch off the lights and close the curtains before diving over the back onto the sofa, where she settled herself between the armrest and Nanoha, who was already starting transfixed at the television, as the opening montage began to play, accompanied by the list of cast and crew, and underneath, black and white photographs.

Fate looked sideways at Nanoha, watching her while Nanoha watched the television, waiting for Nanoha’s inexperience in the horror genre to provide an opportune moment to seat Nanoha comfortably against Fate’s taller frame. It didn’t take long before Nanoha was biting her bottom lip uncomfortably, and the opening was only just drawing to a close. Fate wrapped her arms around Nanoha’s midriff in a suggestive manner, and had a preoccupied Nanoha lie back and onto her front. Fate positioned Nanoha’s head so that it was wresting against her chest, and she began stroking Nanoha’s hair as her own attention returned to the television.

A little girl was returning home due to an impending storm, riding her tricycle. Her mother called her and then went inside. Just as the girl was about to follow, there was an ominous, deep laugh. She turned, looking at the washing as it hung on the line, blowing in the wind. And on screen, for a second, a clown’s face appeared.

Fate felt Nanoha shiver and press noticeably harder against her, so she tightened her embrace of Nanoha’s midriff.

There was a fade-out, followed by a slight jump in time. An ambulance had arrived, and a small covered body was being put in the back.

“The clown… kills children?” whispered Nanoha.

Fate didn’t reply, but geared up for the coming scene that she loved.

A young boy was sailing a paper boat down the side of a street in the heavy rain. It sped up, growing faster, and the boy had to run to keep up. Oblivious of the boy’s cries, the paper boat disappeared down a drain, out of sight and out of reach. He took a quick look, before accepting it was gone, and turned away.

“Hiya, Georgie!” greeted a deep voice. The clown appeared, looking out from the small gap as the water ran off the street into the sewer. “Aren’t you gonna say hello?”

The boy shook his head.

“Aww, come on, bucko. Don’t you wanna balloon?” The clown grinned and held up a yellow balloon, just out of reach.

“I’m not supposed to take stuff from strangers,” replied the boy. “My Dad said so.”

“Very wise of your Dad, Georgie. Very wise indeed,” said the clown, its voice gruff. “I, Georgie, am Pennywise the dancing clown.” It smiled. “You are Georgie. So now we know each other!”

The boy smiled back. “I gotta go.” He got up to leave.

“Go?! Without… this?” The clown held up the boy’s paper boat.

“My boat!” The boy sounded eager, bending down to the drain.

“Exactly!” replied the clown. “Go on, kiddo. Take it!” It shook the boat enticingly.

The boy looked concerned.

“Oh, you want it, don’t you Georgie? Of course you do. And there’s cotton candy, and rides, and all sorts of surprises down here! And balloons too. All colours,” in snarled.

“Do they float?” asked the boy, eager once again.

The clown’s expression now grim and its voice now flat and threatening, it replied: “Oh yes, they float, Georgie. They float. “

The boy reached into the drain.

“And when you’re down here with me…” continued the clown. “You’ll float too!” it screamed.

The clown grabbed the boy’s arm and pulled him toward the sewer as the boy screamed. The camera zoomed towards the clown’s face, showing that it now had a rotting array of pointed teeth, before blurring into the next scene.

Nanoha, who had been pushing harder and harder against Fate throughout the scene while biting her bottom lip, now snapped. She screamed, jumping up from the sofa so suddenly that Fate could only sit and stare as Nanoha picked up the remote and hurled it into the television.

The screen shattered, and there was an electrical crackling sound. Nanoha, now a little calmer, turned and leapt onto Fate, curling up into a shivering ball, insisting that Fate hold her.

Fate sat, not yet believing what had happened, and held Nanoha.

“Fanged clowns… in the drains…” muttered Nanoha incoherently into Fate’s chest. “So many teeth… clowns… in the pipes... in the water pipes…”

Minutes passed with no change.

“Um… Nanoha… you’re sweating a lot. You should have a shower before you go to bed.”

Nanoha shivered. “I’m not going near any taps… or plug holes… or pipes unless you, Raising Heart and Bardiche come with me,” she whispered. “Fate, please protect me from the clowns.”

Maybe this wasn’t such a great idea…

“You’re going to have to shower and bathe with me from now on.”

Then again…

Fate grinned happily.

“I’m not going to help you, Nanoha. Whatever has been done to you – however you have been hurt… I am sorry; truly, sorry. But this is wrong, and you know it; I’m not going to make it any easier for you.”

“If you don’t co-operate, and this goes wrong, it’s likely you and others will get seriously hurt. You care about Vita, don’t you? And about Signum, Shamal and Zafira?”

Hayate averted her eyes, and bit her lip. “What did you drag them into this for? Shamal had a great career here; she was destined for management! And Signum and Zafira; our friends; they were doing so well raising Vita!”

“I told them what happened to me. They were all involved in Government, except Vita of course, and when I told them what I found out they were severely disillusioned with their chosen direction. I offered them riches. They accepted, like any sane person would.”

“You’re not the Nanoha I used to know. Think of what you’re going to do to Fate when she finds out! She accepted you had died, that she had lost you. She cried for weeks, wouldn’t leave the house for months; it nearly ruined her career. But, in the end, she moved on. You’re about to bring this crashing down upon her-“

“Things change,” interrupted Nanoha. “And, Hayate, I want you to stay down here. It’ll be safest here once the guns start going off…”

“Ah, Manager, thank you for joining us,” greeted Nanoha. “Now, if you would be so kind as to open this vault…”

The manager stood tall defiantly, her arms crossed. “You have got to be joking.”

Nanoha sighed. “People carrying loaded guns rarely joke, I’m afraid. And since our schedule is tight, I’m not going to be cute about it; if you don’t open the vault in the next minute, I’m going to shoot one of these hostages,” she threatened, motioning at the crowd behind the manager. “And then one more for each minute thereafter that you refuse to co-operate.”

“But- two senior employees are needed to open the vault,” the manager protested.

“And here’s the second one,” said Signum, pulling Shamal out of the crowd of hostages, and moving her into place beside the manager. “Now, what’ll it be? Will you make this easy for us, or are we going to have to shoot… her.” Signum gestured with her AKS toward a shocked Hayate. “The death of one of your own employees would be on your shoulders.”

“I- refuse.”

“Really?” asked Signum, surprised. “Well, I guess there’s no reason to continue our first countdown, then.” She raised her assault rifle, brought it to her shoulder, and fired a burst of three rounds into Hayate’s chest.

Hayate fell forward, and the hostages screamed. All colour drained from the manager’s face. “Oh… my God,” she said simply. “Ok, ok, I’ll open the vault. Just don’t hurt anyone else.”

“Right, Signum, take the body upstairs. You know what to do,” said Nanoha. “I’m going to supervise the hostages as they empty this place.

Signum nodded.

Offices

“Element, fall in,” ordered Fate, and set off down the corridor, her team taking their place in line behind her. “Blue, check the room on the left. Team Red, take room to the right,” she said. “Mirror under the door prior to entry.

Both teams complied, and after spying no suspects, both doors were simultaneously opened, and both rooms checked carefully.

“The room’s clear.”

“This one’s clear as well.”

“Fall in, Gold,” instructed Fate. “Perform the same drill on the last two offices.”

Rooms were searched, and found to be empty. Fate radioed the command post. “We’ve cleared the upper floor and are descending to the lobby.”

“Ah, affirmative, Captain. Keep it up,” crackled the response.

Fate walked down to the end of the corridor, stopping in front of the elevator that connected the ground and top floors. “Bravos, pry this open. Keep it quiet though.”

Subaru and Caro stepped forward and together managed to slide the metal doors apart. Tia pulled a fire extinguisher from the wall and jammed it in the gap to keep the doors open.

Switching on the flashlight on the end of her G36C, Fate pointed her gun through the gap and then downwards, casting the beam about.

“Shaft is clear. I’m going down. Follow me, and keep it quiet,” she instructed, throwing her rifle’s strap over her shoulder and climbing through and down the maintenance access ladder.

Ground Floor, Rear Corridors

“Are the traps in place, Vita?” asked Zafira.

The redheaded teenager nodded before arming herself with her Glock once again. “Everything is ready.”

“Good,” concluded Zafira. “Now we wait for things to play out. And remember, Vita, aim for the legs and arms; we’re shooting, if we have to, to incapacitate, not to kill. And don’t hurt Fate, whatever you do; we need her.”

“Okay, okay,” replied Vita indignantly.

The two of them were sheltering behind a collection of overturned desks and chairs that formed a makeshift barricade that also offered rudimentary cover. In front of them, at the end of the wide corridor leading away from the bank’s lobby were the chrome elevator doors that Fate’s SWAT team would emerge from.

Hidden in the shaft itself was a motion detector, which would cause a radio, carried by Vita, to sound a harsh beep once it detected movement. Beside the doors were custom rigged concussion charges, and periodically down the corridor, hidden under red carpet, smoke mines.

Elevator Shaft

“Everyone good?” asked Fate.

Tia, Subaru, Caro and Erio nodded.

“Red, can you get these doors just wide enough apart to let Caro fit an Optiwand through?”

Tia and Subaru nodded again, and pried the doors apart just far enough for Caro to mirror through the gap.

“I see a barricade, captain, but no suspects are in view. The corridor is long with no cover,” she said.

“Right,” began Fate. “Red, open that door a little more, and Blue, I want a CS grenade in there each, followed by a Flashbang each. Then follow them in and clear. Go when ready.”

Her instructions were executed with professional precision. The doors opened a little further, and two grenades spewing CS gas were hurled into the corridor, rapidly filling it and the attached rooms, and then two flashbangs, that exploded with a blinding light and deafening bang. Immediately, the doors were slid apart completely, and Fate darted through first, followed by Tia and Subaru, and then Erio and Caro.

Fate felt a bump in the carpet before she put her wait down upon it, and just avoided tripping the mine, but knocked into Subaru as she side-stepped, and her footing faltered, tripping a hidden wire. She grabbed Caro and literally hurled her smallest team member several paces down the corridor as thick purple fumes engulfed them. Someone tripped another cable in the confusion, and there was an enormous explosion from behind them. Fate felt herself lifted, and then hit something hard. She lost consciousness immediately.

Once the smoke cleared, Vita and Zafira stepped out from cover to survey their handiwork, only to narrowly miss being caught by a blast from Caro’s Nova Pump. Before Caro could fire again, Zafira had shot the already maimed SWAT member in the hand that held the shotgun.

Before she could reach her radio with her remaining functioning hand, Caro was knocked out by a well placed whack with a rifle butt.

Vita looked down at her, and then to Subaru and Tia whom had collapsed in an undignified pile, and finally to Fate, who was lying face down on the floor.

“Vita, tie the others up. I’m going to take Fate into the briefing room for Nanoha.”

No way! This is so awesomely surprising and suspenseful I can't wait for more.

“Now, I need you to read over our company’s claim policy before we go any further,” said the agent.

He handed her a clipboard with at least ten pages of very small print. Fate’s brow furrowed as her brain strained to comprehend the polysyllabic words that were crumpled into long clauses, but the foot rubbing up against her leg suddenly distracted her.

Stop that! I have to concentrate! Fate told the girl next to her telepathically.

But I’m BORED! Answered the girl next to her in the same manner, We’ve been here for five hours. I’m hungry and bored. Bored, bored, bored…

“Are you alright, Ms. Harlaown?” the agent asked from across the table.

“Sorry, zoned out for a second,” blushed Fate.

She then sent an evil glare at Nanoha who was busy telepathically singing to Fate

Fate nodded as Nanoha kicked her feet back and forth in her chair. The agent typed slowly on the video monitor.

Fate, I’m starving.

Go get something to eat. I’ll call you when I’m done.

Fate sighed and accepted another pile of forms from the insurance agent.

My lipgloss is bored! My lipgloss is-

“Will you excuse us for a moment?” said Fate to the agent.

“Look at the time. Certainly,” he mumbled.

Fate grabbed Nanoha’s arm and walked with her to the lobby.

“You stay here, or go somewhere till I’m done,” the annoyed blond commanded.

“Mou, Fate-chan…” pleaded Nanoha.

Fate turned around and slammed the agent’s office door. Nanoha pouted and looked for something to entertain her. She skimmed through the magazines but couldn’t find anything that deviated from cars or houses.

‘What I wouldn’t give for MCosmo!’ she moped.

A table full of children’s toys caught her attention, and she began to turn the crank on the side of a colorful box toy. A little melody came from her effort.

"Hey! I know this song! All around the Mulberry bush, the monkey chased the weasel…”

She laughed as she tried to remember all the words to the old children’s song.

“The monkey stopped to pull up his sock, Pop-“

A lid of the box sprung open with a loud “clunk,” a tiny figure on a spring zoomed toward Nanoha’s face.

Nanoha sat in shock with her blue eyes bulging at the smiling figure with a painted face and a red nose that bobbed back and forth from the box.

“F-F-F-Faaate?” Nanoha gasped just above a whisper.

Fate was signing the last form, and her stomach growled loudly as it longed for the end of the long day. Fate ignored the sounds of scuttling from the lobby until she heard a panicked yell.

“STARLIGHT BREAKER!”

BOOM

Fate coughed and opened her eyes when she was sure that the pink-ray of doom was over. She gasped when she realized that the insurance office was completely destroyed. The agent sat as his desk as if nothing happened though he was covered in black debris, and his office walls were lying on the ground. The birds chirped overhead, and agent reached in his desk and pulled out another pile of forms.

“Please have a seat, Ms. Harlaown. I need you to fill out a few forms for this,” he said motioning to a tree that used to have a wall in front of it.

“Nanoha…” Fate groaned.

Here is part three. Pay close attention to the times stated in red; this means these events have happened previously, and not in line with the current tradition of only moving forward through the story. I'm starting to flesh out certain bits now things have got going.

Oh, and there is a slight correction to previous chapter I'd like to make: “…Vita, have some of the hostages come down to assist me in emptying this thing. And have Shamal bring the manager down. Signum, you better head back up to the lobby and ensure Zafira is ready…” The speech makes sense now.

Nanoha held her finger to her lips, indicating Hayate should hush. “You’re my friend, Hayate. I didn’t want to harm anyone, least of all you. But, you are part of my plan. I might have to put you in danger, if you force me to. So, I’m here with a proposition.”

“What proposition?”

“Simply put; you help me, you get rich. We all live happily ever after.”

“I’m not going to help you! What on Earth happened to you Nanoha? You used to be so kind, so sweet…”

“You see this?” asked Nanoha, her voice suddenly sharp. She slipped her hand behind one of her bangs, and swept it aside to reveal a long scar on her left cheek. “I have many more like this; all over my body. This is what happened to me, Hayate.”

Silence, and then: “H-How?”

“I was screwed over. Sold out, Hayate, by my allies. I’ve had to hide – hide for so long, all my friends abandoned. My lover – forever forsaken,” she paused. “And now I’m paying them back. I’m going to take all the money I could ever spend, the money they use to wage wars, and I’m going to live happily ever.”

“Who…?”

“The Government, Hayate, screwed me. I used to be in the FBI. I was an agent when I met you… you and Fate. Fate found out; I couldn’t keep it from her, but I never let on to you,” Nanoha paused. “While I was working for them, I touched on something I shouldn’t have, and suddenly I find my contacts disappearing right and left,” she faltered. “This isn’t relevant; I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”

DX the reaction of the manager lacked some impact ^^' i was expecting something like: *scream* then "oh my god! why?! what did you do!!" then *so nervous almost sh*tting herself senseless* ^^;;; umm and though i would agree a bit with evil rick about the motives/reason for fighting of the wolkenritter here, i'm not gonna be too skeptical about it 'cause there might be more to it than what Nanoha said in the chapter. Also, Swat!Fate and her team.... they were outsmarted by Nanoha's gang!!! D: i wanted to see swat!fate kicking a$$ XD

The manager was strong willed and distanced. If a hostage was killed in front of me due to my inaction I would look almost unaffected, but inside I'd feel, well, I can't really describe it. When I've seriously screwed up before (admittedly, I've never screwed up that badly before) I'd get the same, intensely sickly feeling, but look like I didn't care. Usually it made matters worse, because I'd have teachers/relatives/parents/siblings scream at me twice as loud for being utterly indifferent. Of course, I'm not a drone; I did indeed care, but didn't know how to show it.

And the other things you mentioned are for another time, and another *cough* prequel *cough* story... or later in this one. Nanoha wasn't ready to give a complete explanatory monologue to Hayate then and there. Sadly, it might be too late for her ever to find out any more now...

ahh i see ^^'' i didn't know that (about the manager) ^^;; but i can relate to you though o.o .. like really really relate to what you said. when i was in grade 6, my adviser and the other teachers would reprimand me a lot for being "indifferent" or seeming like i'm not affected or guilty when they are upset or angry at me (cause i just smile sheepishly or don't cry/uber frown when i get scolded by them) >.< ..oh wait.. 'till now it's like this.. ^^'' but i always told my classmates that it's not that i was "happy" or "didn't give a care in the world". i was feeling guilty and scared and embarrassed but smiling is my way of coping with it. and i chose to learn from my mistakes quietly instead of crying in front of the whole class and giving the teachers the satisfaction of seeing me get scared out of my mind. ^^'''''
