i'm a manga reader and i don't understand the artist's complaints about the anime version, honestly it must be some kind of romantic ulqihime obsession and he was brought back to reality with the anime version(= not so much room for your own imagination/interpretation)

the scene is from chapter 262 if you want to check it by yourself, because my statement just speaks for myself

looked to me he was just about ready to kill her for that in the manga and the only thing that kept her safe was that Azien wanted her.

There is definately a connection going on in the manga. Even non-fans have admited that on many occasions. Of course, most call it very platonic. They're small moments. Like when Ulquiorra called her a strong woman in his thoughts but said practically the exact opposite when Nnoitra approached him. Another big moment was when he caught up to her after Grimmjow took her and they shared that look. Most expected contempt or something from Inoue when she looked at the guy who practically killed Ichigo yet she actually looked quite guilty. Then there's that "Everything divide us" sketch in volume 30 with "Unblendable," which caused an explosion of fanart from Japan.

The biggest complaint with shippers regarding the slap was they removed Ulquiorra's reaction shots, like right after the slap and when he stopped outside the door for a moment listening to her cry. And the fact that in the manga, Ulquiorra never has his zanpakuto on him when he enters Inoue's room, which isn't true in the anime.

UlqiHime is Number Two in Bleach Related pairing manga poll in Japan . Around a year ago a poll was taken in which IchiXRuki was number 1 UlqiHime was number 2 . About IchiXOri lets say it wasnt even in the top 20 .

MelodyMix has posted that Japanese Poll (BForums) but I cant find her post : ( This was even before it was animated soley based on manga . So yeah UlqiXhime is the number one Orhime pairing in Japan
