I figure large percentage, if not the majority, of people who are going to vote for Obama aren't voting out of their support for him, but rather, from their dislike of Romney and the gloomy future envisioned by someone like him at the helm.

The New Stars in Republican Commercials Attacking Obama: Babies
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/30/us...or-babies.html
Quote:
Attack ads have come to this: President Obama makes babies cry.
That, in essence, is the message of a new commercial from a Republican “super PAC” called Americans for Job Security. And it is just one of several new advertisements that make a blunt appeal to women by using young children.
In the new ad, a worried mother jogs down the street, pushing her daughter in a stroller. “I run to forget — forget about my problems,” she says. “Now we’re facing another recession. The future is getting worse under Obama.” The camera then cuts to her daughter, whose face puckers as if she is about to burst into tears.
Another new ad from Mitt Romney features a mother reading to her infant daughter. “Goodnight Moon” perhaps? “The Giving Tree”?
More like the Wall Street Journal editorial page.
“Dear daughter,” the mother says, “your share of Obama’s debt is over $50,000, and it grows every day.”

Haven't babies always been the stars of the ads?

I don't know if the ad works or not. But I DO know it is an extremely well constructed ad. Very professional. You can tell those who made it, made it with love and care.

I saw this article, I'm actually looking forward to the debates. They're both relatively intelligent and articulate people, so let's hope they actually discuss things of substance vs. the random rhetoric that people keep repeating over the campaign. It's funny about how "unlikable" people think Romney is.. Prime Minister Stephen Harper (Canada) is even MORE unlikable than him.. but has so far been doing a decent job despite all the massive fears about any Tory (Conservative) government.

I wouldn't say than Harper is as unlikable as Romney, he is closer of his supportors while being less crazy or unconnected with reality than many of other members of his party.

Now Entering the Month of Surprise
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2...er=rss&emc=rss
Quote:
October has arrived, and with it, the specter of an “October Surprise” that might alter the political trajectory of the presidential campaign at the last minute.
In 1972, Henry Kissinger, the secretary of state under President Nixon, announced that “peace is at hand” in the Vietnam War just days before the election. In 1992, Caspar Weinberger, the defense secretary during the Reagan administration when George H. W. Bush was vice president, was implicated in the Iran-contra arms scandal four days before Mr. Bush lost the election to Bill Clinton. In 2004, Osama bin Laden released a video statement on Oct. 29.
Will such a surprise happen again? In 1980, the nation held its collective breath waiting for an October release of the Iranian hostages; it did not happen until hours after Ronald Reagan’s inauguration. It is possible that October comes and goes this year without a pivotal moment.

Hm, Romney isn't really that crazy. It's called pandering to his party. It's called rhetoric. For any Republican to receive his party's nomination, he needs: 1) money and 2) to get support from the old and religion wingnuts

People always say there's some big conspiracy and that the wealthy are keeping people misinformed.. But, it's so ridiculously easy to get information now, that those that are misinformed are CHOOSING to stay misinformed.

On a random anecdote, I was talking to someone that was at a dinner party with a premier (the equivalent of a "governor" in Canada) and he was talking about policy, bureaucracy, decision-making and elections -- there are some whackjobs in politics, but most people are sane and reasonable and totally tied down in so many ways that it's almost incomprehensible to the rest of us.

(CBS News) Ann Romney's biggest concern if her husband becomes president would be his ability to maintain his "mental well-being," she said in an interview Thursday with KTVN in Reno, Nev.

Well... if that's the case... perhaps, Romney shouldn't be running for President at all.

Reminds me of a Taiwanese serial named "Golden Ferris Wheel" where the wife of the CEO is just as motor-mouth and dumb.

Mitt Romney advisers clash over Libya
http://www.politico.com/news/stories...842.html?hp=f3
Quote:
Advisers to Mitt Romney are split over how broadly and aggressively to attack President Barack Obama for his handling of foreign policy following the death of the U.S. ambassador to Libya, according to top Republicans close to the campaign.
Some aides are arguing that the campaign has been given a huge gift: a new opening to argue White House failure and incompetence. “Across the board – domestic, economic and foreign-policy issues – President Obama has been outmatched by events,” said a Romney adviser advocating an aggressive response to the chaos in the Middle East. “He’s an observer of events, not a shaper of events. Everywhere you look, he’s been outmatched.”

Virginia man kills family and himself over fear Obama would be re-elected

Quote:
A Virginia man allegedly killed himself and his family earlier this week in part because he was upset by the thought of President Barack Obama being re-elected.

“He felt that our God-given rights were being taken away,” a family friend identified as “Maggie L.” told The Daily Mail. “He didn’t like where the country was going.”

The friend said Albert Peterson, a defense contractor, had a history of paranoia and was also affected by a favorite uncle’s recent suicide. On Wednesday, The Washington Post reported that Peterson, his wife Kathleen and their two sons, Matthew and Christopher, were found dead in their home.
