I think this has more to do with the success of movies coming out of Pixar more than anything. CG movies are doing way better than the traditional Disney animated movies.

Pretty amazing how Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle will be released Fall 2004, along with Macross Zero final episode and other potentially great series like the new Oh! My Goddess series. God. Looks like the end of 2004 will be very promising

I can't wait for the "Oh! My Goddess" series!
Oh, my favorite Ghibli film is "Kiki's Delivery Service" I can watch "Kiki" over and over. I just really like this story. I wish I could read Japanese. I saw the actual book once.

Howl no Ugoku Shiro / Howl's Moving Castle

I just noticed this movie listed on Animenfo. Diana Wynne Jones was one of my favorite authors as a kid, and this movie is based on one of her more famous children's novels. Oh, yes, and the movie is by Studio Ghibli.

For those who never read it, it's about a girl who gets cursed with old age by a witch and ends up accepting a job as a servant for Howl, a magician who lives in a flying castle.

Anyway, does anyone have any more information about this?

I've been very eagerly looking forward to this. It was one of my favorite books; I could hardly believe it when I heard there was going to be an anime movie!
All I really know is that it's coming out late fall this year. It was mentioned in a Wired magazine article, along with a nice pic of the castle. I can scan it in and post it, if you like.
I'm so happy Ghibli is doing it. Pinch me, I'm dreaming.

I am really looking forward to this.I've being reading a lot of the reviews of the premiere which happened on sunday at the Venice Film Festival and the general response is it is another Miyaka masterpiece.

I'm quite a fan of Diana Wynee Jones too, her Chrestomanci books are amongst my favourite, so all round this will be a bit of a winner for me. Unfortunately it'll be early 2005 before the R2 DVD comes out...oh well, the soundtrack(s) help to fill the gap in the meantime.

Spoiler for don't read if you haven't read the book!:

hehe. I already posted about this a few weeks back. The rumored premier of the movie stateside is 2nd week of December. That's the latest rumor I've heard, but I haven't seen any advertising to back it up yet.

I have to wait full year before it comes to the theatres in here, september 2005...

Studio Ghibli movies are my favorites, and the best are Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind and Porco Rosso.

Howl's Moving Castle

Howl's Moving Castle Official Website!
Release date: 11/20/04

Decided to meander up to the website today to find out the release date (I had forgotten what it was) and noticed that it's no longer just a movie poster, but a fully interactive website complete with a very cute splash picture. Since there's only 10 more days till the movie, I think it's fair to say that it's time to start discussing it. Given what the original poster and this splash picture look like I'm really excited about this movie and can't wait for it to come to the theatres...especially stateside. ^_^

If one of you wonderful people in Japan happen to see it when it comes out, please, oh please tell us what you thought of it, and you're welcome to provide spoilers if you'd like too. hehe.

This is a movie where I would actually prefer to watch it in English rather than endure Kimura Takuya's some-higher-being awful voice acting as Howl.
