The Subtitle is...The Proof of Existence....The Strength of Mercy...The Emotion of Caring.... The Proof = Clare Existence = Teresa When Cynthia was mortally wounded by Beth, she said the similar thing. She told Yoma that her courage for living is her wish to live Veronica's share. Quote:
Basically, you have to reread chapter 154 first. Teresa tells Clare that Clare's "strong will" manifests the imagination into reality. Teresa says Clare's strength, experience, skill and her longing for Teresa releases Priscilla. If the interpretaion is still not satisfying you, the better answer is to study Japanese language. |

Could someone tell me if there is much censorship throughout the series? The only edited image i know of is this one. I hope the link works.

Offensive/Defensive types were determined by their fight/flight response upon turning into hybrids. Emotions cause Yoki to spike and intense feelings could potentially cause yoki to go out of control which led to awakening. All the partially-awakened warriors avoided awakening through their own feelings/willpower. In the end even the power of the warriors ended up being determined in part by their strong feelings. Priscilla being the most obvious example. Clare's image of Teresa as an invincible warrior was so absolute that it solidified that power when she manifested. Clare's had such absolute faith in Teresa's strength that it overwhelmed even Priscilla's extreme hatred of herself. A part of me also feels like it is a not so subtle nod towards the fan-base's image of Teresa.

Dayum, the guy who wrote Angel Densetsu is the author of bloody CLAYMORE!? This is quite the surprise...but they were both pretty damn awesome to the very end, I'm satisfied with the closure of this manga.
Sure, we didn't get to the rest of the world and the very origins of the organization, but I don't care - the "small continent" of Claymore was very fulfilling in pretty much every aspect, taking it any farther could have resulted in another Berserk...oh god, the dread!!! Looking forward to Yagi's next work, I believe it's due December 4th? |

Well, after reading the last few chapters, I have 2 train of thoughts:
1) If you wanted a shounen-style ending, Yagi more than delivered. 2) If you are looking for something more cerebral and logical, then "you haven't been paying attention!"

I don't think I voiced my opinion on the ending...
I enjoyed it, a lot. I thought it was great how Teresa came back and finished things off. It was fantastic to have her back, so fantastic. I actually spoiled myself with the last chapter. I missed the penultimate's release, so when I saw the new chapter was out, I read the final one before the penultimate. I was like "wait a minute here..." and went back. Not much was spoiled, but still it ruined the flow a bit, lol. I will be buying all of the volumes to complete my collection. This series is great to re-read, just great.

The drawing of Angel Densetsu is similar to Claymore, so it is no surprise. I hope the mangaka release will answer the story loophole. For example, the meeting of Clare and Teresa are different due to their different perspective. Also, Clare's best friend(they supported each other) from her training day never existed. Only Clare and her bully survived their class' final exam. By the way, Anastasia has a big death flag. Yagi said it tookhim 10 minutes to draw her hair. Roxanne is the second place(8 minutes), and Agatha is the third place(6 minutes). Yagi also shows his taste in the European movies. His ideal actress for Clare is... 1. Catherine Spaak 2. Deborah Kerr 3. Isabelle Adjani They don't look like Clare to me..... |

Well, Deborah Kerr didn't look like Clare, but the young pictures of Catherine Spaak and Isabelle Adjani definitely fit the look of Clare. Unfortunately, both these actresses are too old to play Clare right now.

Wow, you really get a sense of talent and practicality from Yagi's methods in that interview. I also like his decision to focus on characters rather then the setting.
Claymore was never meant to go to the mainland, because the mainland wasn't actually relevant to the characters.

That interview was really helpful with getting a better sense of just how his mind worked. One of the things that got me hooked on Claymore god... almost 10 years ago, was because of all the character development. His style and train of thought totally worked towards my taste
Still can't believe this series is over. Any idea what his new manga is gonna be called?

It's almost 2015, and, first, I came to say Happy New Year.
Second, onto business. Since where I live the current year is almost gone, I step into this thread to say my farewell to Claymore right before 2014 ends. The cycle repeats over, and like any good series right or long after ending activity has almost diminished to non-existence. Those who are hardcore fans will continue to stay discussing again on Claymore, and those fans who are non-mainstream to the series they move on and carry on trying new things. I'm of the second camp, since it's almost three months that Claymore ended serialization and, naturally, my mind is now onto other things whether be anime, manga, games, or carrying any social activity. It was around April 2007 that I came into the contact with the world of Claymore for the first time through the anime. Once the anime ended on late September of that year, then I began to read the manga from the beginning. At that era, the Claymore manga was in the midst of transition moving to another Jump magazine for serialization. I recall at that time that Yagi-sensei was publishing the extra, side-story chapters while slowing down before Claymore manga was to resume its serialization in the new magazine of Jump Square. Like its thematic predecessor, Angel Densetsu, Claymore makes an absolute emphasis on the characters over the world and its settings. Yagi-sensei, and thanks to that translated interview, makes the characters to move by themselves, to be self-sufficient in order to break readers' expectations. IMO, Claymore lost its luster after the time skip, since the most memorable drama delivered in the manga came in Teresa's arc and the Northern Campaign arc. After the time skip, the Ghosts have become too much overpowered taking down threats, that it substracted suspense value away from the story. Even the Claymore rebellion arc featuring the three new abyssals couldn't keep me on suspense like the earlier story-arcs from the first volumes. Nevertheless, I was just ecstatic to read new chapters released each month. My other complaint on the manga was that Yagi should have kept the little island world of Claymore isolated giving NO clues whatsoever about the mainland continent. I do understand it was a necessity for him to disclose the mainland as a sort of plot device or vehicle in order to explain the reason why Claymore exist. However, I think he could have come up with other devices to make that disclosure, and still keeping that little world lonely and isolated. My last complaint on the manga is that, unlike his previous manga, I felt no feeling of definitive closure to Claymore's conclusion from Yagi's doing. It felt more like he just finished with another story arc, because I know in my gut when a manga ends with an absolute closure: the reader left with that feeling of temporal hollowness knowing for sure that there won't be another issue for next week, because this is it with the story concluded. Nevertheless, in certain aspects I do agree with Yagi that the world itself doesn't involve his characters. Basically, what I'm saying is that the world in Claymore is treated like just another device or vehicle for the characters to move, and their actions affect it without being concerned or affected by the outside world; it is expected then from Yagi-sensei next work that the world and its settings are to be treated as just another device and not a character or a force of sorts making effect on the characters as well. Subsequently, in Claymore the characters move freely, but their world stays still and unmoving, changing only through the characters taking and achieving a relevant course or courses of actions. Furthermore, I was amazed at how much attention to detail Claymore garnered during and after the peak of its serialization run. I mean everytime that I came to AnimeSuki, and visit the Claymore subforum the threads were packed. And, for example to name a few, discussions on the warriors' moves were taken to STAR TREK levels of examination and dissection. That was how the cycle for this series reached its zenith. It wasn't until mid-2012, or so I think, when the MODS moved the Claymore subforum into the retired section, that discussion on Claymore drastically diminished, nonetheless, continued on at the manga thread. Now, here I am at the end of 2014, reviving this thread for one of many or few last times in order to post my final thoughts on Claymore. I just hope that when word reaches AnimeSuki on Yagi-sensei next work, then someone would be kindly enough to post the news at this thread or opening a new one in the manga section. Now that I brought definitive closure to my Claymore phase, then I can start the new year to come with a favorite manga that I have longed and awaited anxiously to start in order to fill the gap left, Shingeki no Kyojin! |
