I have a question over here and an answer in the spoiler tag would be really appreciated.

Through the Light Novel series, were there any romantic scenes at all, or any signs of falling for someone between Hachiman, Yukino, and Yui?
On short, were there any "deeper" feelings developed, and if there were, between who and how was it shown/explained?
I have this urge to read the LN since I love OreGairu (hence why it is in my signature), but I would like to get this question answered first.

From what I can remember from the anime + summaries:

Yukino and 8man had an unintended 'date' (Komachi was supposed to be with them but she played wingman and left the two alone), while looking for a birthday gift for Yui, it had its moments with subtle hints of interest (depending on how you look at it) such as Yukino buying an apron which 8man suggested looked good on her, Yukino being impressed wit 8man getting a toy from the arcade (by paying one of the employees to get it for them rather than playing the game), and Yukino complimenting 8man on his perception towards Haruno (by seeing through her facade). But nothing with which we can derive a clear conclusion on.

During the summer vacation camp, after the Volunteer's Club (with cooperation from Hayato's clique) successfully executing 8man's plan to reunite an outcast from her friends by placing everyone's relationship back to ground zero (not reuniting in the literal sense but allows the outcast to start over), Yukino 'ranks up' 8man from stranger to acquaintance.

Still summer vacation (last few days) Komachi once again manages plays wingman by managing to hook up 8man with Yui (she suggests her brother go with her to the fireworks show). After a run in with Haruno, 8man accompanies Yui home during which Yui 8man says even if he hadn't had the accident he still would have been a loner, to which Yui replies she still would have went to the Volunteer's Club for help and still would have, she stops and stutters a bit she probably would have said something along the lines of "still falling in love with you" or something but she gets a phone call form her mom to which 8man insists on her picking it up.

This one is after the festival arc, after 8man commits martyrdom he makes his way to the club room to finish paperwork and finds Yukino in the room as well upon arriving. They have their usual banter which included Yukino ending with her usual statement of "I don't lie", 8man calls her out on this as Yukino said during their 'first' meeting that she knew him (remember it was Yukino's car that got 8man to the hospital) but Yukino retorts that she 'technically' didn't know him (apparently ramming someone with a car doesn't constitute as knowing a person), she follows this up with a "And now I do". After a brief period of silence, 8man asks or the second time if they could be friends, Yukino cuts him off before he can finish his question and repeats her answer "We can never be friends" what differs now however, is that it can be interpreted as wanting to be "more" than friends.

Finally in Volume 7, Yui is starting to be more aggressive and intends on confessing to 8man during the school trip, which she attempts to do at the final chapter. She doesn't explicitly say it, it was more beating around the bush, saying something along the lines of: "You're good at this sort of things, why can't you understand this?" To which 8man replies "If it's like that, I don't want it". Basically he was shutting her down before she could properly confess. 8man's relationship with Yukino turns for the worse as well due to 8man having committed yet another social suicide scenario (long story short guy x likes girl y but girl y doesn't want a boyfriend so girl y asks for help and 8man confesses to her so that guy x backs off).

I've probably missed quite a few other encounters but this is what I can think of from the top of my head. Hope this helps answer your questions.

I didn't really see it that way. The way I saw that scene was Yukino simply keeping the status quo in which she's close to no one. It's the same as how 8man keeps on committing social suicide over and over again. It's no martyrdom or playing Batman, that would imply he's making a sacrifice, but he's merely doing those things to keep his shield up and keep on isolating himself from further harm from social interaction.
Both Yukino and 8man clearly want friends, but at the same time they're clearly scared of getting close to others that they'll forgo the former to keep themselves "safe". This way of life has also led to 8man's extreme cynicism, that won't allow him to accept the fact that a girl like Yui could genuinely fall for him (that's why I don't think he "rejected" Yui in volume 7, as his issue is that he doesn't believe she truly likes him).

Funny enough, though different in that he's a really social person, Hayato also seems similar to them in that he also likes keeping his status quo, since he likes keeping the peace around him but he won't do anything himself to keep that peace if it involves compromising his own image or sense of security, meaning he probably likes keeping that peace around him to protect himself - or to pretend he's helping people as opposed to whatever he failed to do in the past.

I honestly have no idea, but I seriously doubt it would in most occasions for number of reasons, like other people in the arcade noticing, the employee scared of manager, or the employee keeping proper work ethics. But who knows?

However there isn't really much to go on, it's merely speculation for shippers (but who knows).

I consider it martyrdom because he is sacrificing reputation for status quo (with the 2nd event anyway, the first one was simply for getting the job done), however 8man has no love for his reputation hence, to him personally he wasn't sacrificing anything.

Admittedly this was what their first conversation was about.

We won't exactly know till the next volume or so if 8man truly did 'reject' her (there was technically no confession so 8man's actions were implicit at best). But yes 8man's cynicism prevents him from accepting Yui's feelings. Interestingly, although he is basically being treated as a friend by some of the cast and despite his philosophy he still asks Yukino to friends twice, not Yui or anyone else. Why seek friendship with her? Now that 8man had people who acknowledged his existence, I doubt he was hoping to increase the quantity, given his line of thought even one friend would have been enough.

I totally agree with Hayato, he pushes the problem to other people. First with his friends, summer camp, the festival and the school trip, he could have actually done something which didn't have to involve 8man shooting himself on the foot but he simply chooses to play the dentists's patient.

Regarding why 8man failed in the past at socialising, I wouldn't know. Perhaps it's likely due to his very awkward personality. So, people didn't really want to get close to him. Furthermore, they were younger, and people at that age tend to be mean, less tolerant and more judgemental.
However, right now, the reason why he isn't accepted is due to his own personality and actions. He's even pushed away people who have wanted to get close to him.

As for Yukino, she indeed said she wants to change how things are, but ultimately, she really hasn't changed much, and she's fallen into her bad habits and safety zone as much as 8man has. That's why I said she too keeps her status quo, even if she wants to change.

Interesting ideas. Indeed.
I agree with the fact that most of the cast wants to keep the status quo as it is(Hachiman, Yukino, Saki, Ebina, Hayato). But we all know changes are inevitable. Either they face the changes or lose something very precious. Hachiman lost his almost non-existant reputation, and because of his stubbornness Yui lost a chance to confess.

I read a clearly inaccurate presumption, of Yukino "wanting to be more than friends" with Hachiman. Yukino is calculating enough not to associate herself with Hikki. Did you observe that most of the time they avoid people when they are out together somewhere. Also she practically saying "we can never be friends" is more like a threat than an invitation. I can't see a romantic underline in that. More likely Yukino would help Yui fulfill her wish of getting together with Hikki.

I'd like to draw an analogy here. I was a social outcast in my class (still am, but that is another issue) and I had a girl who was kinda like my female version(Just like Yukino and 8 man). we had some bickering and competition between us, but we never got to the friend level. If we go by the majority vote here, you'd say we could have hooked up based on Oregairu. But this was not the case clearly. She ended up making a few friends, while me, as Hachiman did, I destroyed my reputation(without the martyrdom) by being a stupid arrogant, naive bastard and left high-school alone.

And I would clearly state that people are not attracted to similar people romantically. They seek out people who "complete" them. This is the basis of the saying "You are making me whole" or "you complete me". We could enter into a debate about the validity of these affirmations and you can come up with exceptions, But if you think about it carefully you will find that this is the truth.

This is why I say that Yukino will not end up with Hikki. It is more like she will commit a social suicide too, to get him together with some other girl. Surely Yukino and Yui were talking about Hikki when they were left alone in her apartment that evening. And more likely Yukino has her own problems which I assume stem from her mother, and her upbringing. To me it looks like Yukino is under stress from these causes, and eventually she will need to relieve it, and being an outcast like Hikki, leaves only one option ...there is no better way to relieve stress than to commit social suicide.... <He-he-he>...oh.. this was sarcasm (When I relieved my stress it was "suicide" too, but at least I had no tension in me afterwards).....

I wonder if some of you guys are ignoring the fact Yukino has noticed the hints from Yui's affection towards Hachi AND the fact that getting into a relationship with him will kill her last thread of hope of getting a true friend on Yui. Yukino wants a friend above all, she shares only one or two things in common with him but that stops there just because people shares similarities it doesn't means they're fated to be togher =__=;.

If I remember correctly, the anime goes up to LN volume 6. However, there was a lot of content that was cut out of the anime. Example: there was a scene where Hachiman has a bowl of ramen with Shizuka at a shop and they talk about stuff (I don't remember what it was though, sorry). Does that help?

It comes for about a month before the game, it should be out by next week or something, if memory doesn't fail me.

BTW, here is a PV of the OVA, it looks like they sneaked a bunch of things on it, and I'm not sure of just like 6.5 , the content of 7.5 is going to be the same as the OVA (though that would make the most sense).

I actually agree on this one. sometimes you end up with someone unexpectedly. in the case of Yui and Hachiman they have similarities but still they have differences. for example there are showbiz couples who end up married for a very long time despite having similar jobs.

I'm just emphasizing that there is still room for development. because we cannot fully comprehend romance, like seeing couples looking perfect together end up separating even involving violence. we could just wait and see what happens

Yes, but so far in the story Yukino still has received the most development while Yui's character is at a standstill. Volume 5 was all about "What is Yukinoshita Yukino to me?" even if Yui got a chance to go out with Hachiman. Volume 6 had them making up, and Volume 7 had the first time Yukino actually cared enough to get angry at what Hachiman did.
Meanwhile most of Yui's development can be boiled down to "I want to get closer" then getting shot down on multiple occasions (end of volume 2, 5, and 7).

I agree Yukino isn't at the position to want to date Hachiman either, but in my opinion Yui is even farther from than she is.

You could say the same for Yukino though. Hachiman noted their similarities early on in the series, but the end of volume 6 had him specifically comment that the two were different, which is what made their conversations so refreshing to him.

Of course, but Yui and Hachiman's relationship need a lot more development than Yukino and Hachiman do. Currently it seems that Yui's affection is one-sided, and Hachiman only reacts to her for purely physical reasons (because she is a nice, attractive girl making a move on him, not because she is Yui)
