(L) Hakuouki: Shinsengumi Kitan anime (Seasons 1 & 2)

I really enjoyed ep4. I liked the Satsuma magic men, the fact that they aren't really enemies, and the subtle interactions. I liked seeing the real historical bullheaded samurainess of Hijikata and the Shinsengumi. I liked seeing how they were put down and how they reacted to that. I liked seeing Sannan thinking of the special medicine. I was amazed to discover that Chizuru was perhaps a bit like the magic men and the ep1 monsters. I liked getting another geographical hint about Kyoto, mentioning 9th street (down on the same level as the railway station is now).

From the pre-broadcast description of this show, it seems that Chizuru's father is a Western-trained doctor who has some relation to the appearance of the monsters from ep1, so I guess he made a potion that is being taken by the Satsuma guys to make them so strong, but that failed with the monsters. He apparently fed it to Chizuru at some point, and it is helping her heal.

One of the main criteria for getting a subforum is number of posts. This show has under 300. Even B-Gata H-Kei has over 400, and Ichiban Ushiro no Dai Maou has almost 700. Angel Beats, with its own forum, has over 2000.

I don't expect much from the fight scenes in this series, so i guess that's why i'm pleased with what we're getting. In this show i wanted good character interaction and plot, and both have been pretty damn good so far. Especially with the secret of Chizuru in episode four.

I am totally falling for Chikage. But those eyes of his do not look normal. It was obvious that he let his sword slip on purpose. So it seems that Chizuru isn't too normal herself - and she knows and hides this...can't wait to see the sub and the next episode.

That other dude Amagiri Kyuuju has weird eyes too. They look like a reptile's eyes, especially in the closeup in front of the gate.

Interesting that Chizuru has "demon-ish" blood. I kind of suspected this in the beginning. And she knows that pretty well...Unless she is wolverine and thus her ability to heal, although I doubt that

Wonder what Chizuru is hiding and who are those girls in the beggining. The second female doesn't seem to appear in OP... unless she has changed her clothes...

Kinda don't like the design of guy with guns... His outfit looks a bit lame as well as his hairstyle...

It seems like, from the first episode, that the Shinsengumi have these "special medicine" and Chizuru's father was involved, and since we only see (so far) the Shinsengumi going crazy (ep1), then perhaps this medicine turn them into blood-crazed monsters? And from the OP, the medicine is red...so what they're calling medicine...may really be demon blood? Maybe Chizuru is a demon herself, and her "father" uses her blood as his source for creating the medicine?

Seriously, this series deserves so much more than a measely 13 episodes.

Yeah, she's definitely not Human, that's for sure. but she probably didn't take the medicine either, otherwise the Oni from the 1st episode would heal themselves too. Chikage is either a successful recipient of the drug, knowledgeable, or really strong (Only uses one hand with his sword). I'm thinking her Dad is with the Satsuma clan. Not sure if it's voluntary or not though.

Me too, seeing how desperate he gets about his hand lose. He also got annoyed and angry several times and in episode 4 he had mentioned some medicine.

So yeh I expect to see his dark side and afirst death of so called positive character...atleast partly positive.

Well, we can't really say whether the Oni from 1st episode could heal themselves or not because they were in the middle of a fight. Maybe those who turn Oni after taking the medicine, if that's what happens, take longer to heal?

Oh I don't think anyone really dislikes Sannan but the direction he's heading is not very good for him, fate-wise. I agree with the other posts that he may be the first to kick-the-bucket in the group. Besides, when you're in a group like the Shinsengumi (or any samurai-type clan/group) you should be able to fight or else you'll end up dead. The others are treating Sannan a lot better than he probably would be treated in real life, I'm sure. It is sad to see anything happen to any one of them, especially after seeing how comfortable they all seem to get along - wish life was/is more peaceful.

Yeah, I cringed at that too. His outfit was not . . . flattering. It was way too skintight S&M and feminine. I didn't like it at all. His hair was also a bad. But I guess this is what we get when we compare him to the bishies we get elsewhere in the series lol. Not crushworthy at all but Harada seems smittened. Hah.

I dont dislike him its just been kinda obvious from epi 2 whats eventually gonna happen. Trust me I dont want to see it though

Well, as of right now, I'm inclined to believe that Chizuru is an Oni but a natural one (If that's possible). And it's Oni blood that the mysterious medicine is. With the blood strengthening people at the cost of their humanity and sanity. Although I forgot the possibility that Kazama is also an Oni, as the intro has him (normal) facing a Oni looking Toshi. There has to be something special about him. This is the kind of Opening that I love. It shows spoilers but just enough of them so it leaves so much interpretation to the viewers. Then I can speculate all day and not know if I'm right .

As of Right now there are three clan's I think

Satsuma - Kazama and Kyuuju/ worked with Aizu clan, was mentioned it was rare for that to happen
Aizu - Seen to be working with Shinsengumi/ Don't know much after that
Choushuu - Clan that burned Kyoto, attacked the Emperor/ Probably near wiped out

Okita's been growing on me and I think he's become my favorite, Sorry Isami .
