I am reluctant to start a Juvia thread. She is not one of the main team (Natsu, Lucy, Erza, Gray and Happy), and considering the Lisanna thread (the only non-main character thread currently) has never really done anything, I have to question whether another non-main character thread would serve any real purpose.

Maybe a general Fairy Tail Mage thread would be a better idea? Then again, there is already a Favourite Mages thread...But this new General thread could be different...

I won't make a decision just yet. I'll have to think about this. (And, I am more than willing to be swayed either way.)

True. I'd lean towards a general Fairy Tail secondary character thread. That would open it up to discussion about any of the other mages/characters, and the various relations they have with each other. Probably wrap Lisanna's thread into it.

Would it be a good idea to create a thread for all of Fairy Tail's Easter Egg? As in, all the strange little characters that pop up in the background consistently throughout each episode?

No offence intended anime fans, I just avoid filler arcs as a general rule most of the time. I'm not commenting on the anime filler's quality since I only saw the ball dance ep anyways for it.

I will create this thread, but unless you want to lose the formatting found in the other forum post, I would suggest copying the text yourself, then formatting the text how you want. Then, I will take your post and start a new thread. When you're done (or you decide you do not care about formatting), PM me and I'll start the thread.

edit: In retrospect, there is another thread (Create Your Own Character/Magical Technique/Ability/etc) that has, in many respects, the same idea you are considering for a new thread. If you want, you can use the preexisting thread for your post, otherwise please emphasize the differences between your thread and the old thread...

Would it be possible to create a new thread to discuss and rate various character's battle attributes and abilities?

The discussion & fan ratings will be used to come up with Battle Charts for each character. The chart itself will be spider/radar based. I've already designed a template:



The idea is inspired by the Grand Magic Games Guidebook (special chapter) found here.


However, those charts are only limited to certain characters (the ones who are participating in the tournament). Not to mention, the data on Fairy Tail's core members is a bit outdated (pre-time skip).

This fan-based collaboration (if you'd call it that), would ultimately serve to generate a more useful (up-to-date) & probably more expansive set of battle data charts.

I'd give the thread a title like: "Fairy Tail: Character's Battle Data Charts (Collaboration)", if you choose to approve it.

A completed Battle Data Chart would look something like this (I did one for Hiro Mashima - for fun, not to be taken seriously):

^That sounds really cool. We would have to emphasize that the "rating" was entirely fictional (based on some sort of fan consensus), and it is not to be used for 'versus' discussions, otherwise I am more than willing to start such a thread.

p.s. As for the set-up of such a discussion I think the thread should be set up in such a way that numerical debate will occur for an individual character. Once a specific character debate has finished (and a chart has been created), then a different character can be discussed. Additionally, if the criteria for the debate has not been set (e.g. Speed, Stamina, Intelligence, etc), then that must be decided first (I do not know if there are preexisting criteria or not).

Through debates on other forums, the criteria or the battle attributes were chosen as follows:

1. Offense
2. Defense
3. Speed
4. Intelligence
5. Durability
6. Stamina
7. *Miscellaneous

Along with the following definitions:

1. Offense
Based on: pure attacking power {MPF competition is good example}, physical strength, combat experience & combat skill {hand-to-hand, swordsmanship, etc}, maximum amount of damage that can be inflicted on an opponent, attack range & versatility, magical diversity (ability to use various magical elements).

2. Defense
Based on: defensive techniques & skill, magic nullifying & suppressing abilities; basically abilities that shield a character from taking damage.

3. Speed
Based on: outright moving speed, reflexes, reactions, balance, etc.

4. Intelligence
Based on: perception, critical thinking, strategic & tactical awareness, logical deduction skills, adaptability, and analytical ability i.e. ability to analyze an opponent for potential weaknesses, etc.

5. Durability
Based on endurance, ability to cope with damage when taken, ability to cope with fatigue & stress, maximum amount of damage that can be taken, physical condition, age, etc.

6. Stamina
Based on: amount of raw magic one holds. More magic equals more spells that can be cast, which in turn allows for an extended battle time. Also based on physical conditioning, age, magic absorption abilities {to rejuvenate magic supply}, etc.

We could:

a) initiate a new debate from scratch as to what the battle attributes should be
b) continue debating from what we have above
c) go along with the above criteria and just get everyone's opinions on what they think each character's stats/ability ratings ought to be.

I agree with the "rating" was entirely fictional (based on some sort of fan consensus) emphasis, so it will not be used in 'versus' discussions which tend to be highly specialized/circumstantial.

As for the character ratings, fans could either have the option of discussing them in the forum, or rating them via a poll (since I imagine many won't have the time to write a thorough analysis and will just want to weigh in with their opinions).

The poll for each character will be based on the chosen battle attributes, a template would be as follows:



IMO, polling/discussion of ratings should be open to all characters, as doing them individually will take a substantial amount of time. But I'm open to doing it to what you see fit.

Seems reasonable. If you want (since this is your thread) the first few days or so can be used to make sure all forum-goers are okay with these criteria ("battle tributes"). Otherwise, if you feel there won't be much complaint, we can use what you have written as is.

Additionally, how will sudden power-ups be factored into the charts. To use the Naruto databooks as an example, the Kyuubi (a demon sealed into the main character (Naruto)) is not factored into Naruto's stats/chart, so his stats are never 100% accurate since he can get immediate power-ups at any time. Will there be a way to factor such sudden power-ups into the charts, or will new charts have to be built (p.s. who is making these charts?).

I assume by "poll" you mean a simple numerical value each poster can assign the character's attributes in their post, because I do not think I can make a forum poll for every character.

The annual AnimeSuki Choice Award nomination process (or something along those lines) can be used as a template if you want .

Additionally, I can make multiple threads for either different groups or different 'levels' of characters (primary, secondary, or tertiary). Otherwise, I expect the forum will be clogged quite quickly with each poster analyzing dozens of different characters.

Sudden power-ups will not be factored in the charts, as they will make the process a bit too convoluted in my opinion. If the demand is high enough, special charts that factor in these power-ups explicitly could be built.

As for the charts themselves, I'll be making them, but anyone else is more than welcome to contribute (however, they are not obliged to do so).

Correctly assumed. However, I do not see a need to clog the forums on here since the polls will be hosted via 3rd party website. Here is a sample poll for example:

It is hosted externally, and the fans/forum-goers will be able to access it from a simple link. Each of such polls will host 5-6 characters that the fans will be able to vote on freely. The results will be published once a certain amount of time elapses, or a certain number of votes is reached. All at the same time, the fans will be able to discuss their character ratings in the thread itself.

I agree with you. That is why, if the polls are allowed to be hosted externally (with each poll having a group of 5-6 characters), 6-7 links would suffice on the main page of the thread for polling purposes.
