I'm not sure why you would say that about a site whose members chose Cross Game and Shin Sekai Yori as Best Series in the Choice Awards. Neither of these were especially popular choices anywhere else.

To me, Kill la Kill has been a breath of fresh air in an industry that often seemed to have narrowed over the past few years. Sure we haven't returned to the 2006-2007 period in terms of diversity, but I hope Kill la Kill marks a step in that direction.

Don't forget the quality of art style in this anime - its originality shines brightly among all the cloned characters from other shows we see around. Even if you make every named character in Kill la Kill wear the same clothes, have the same haircut and hair color, and use the same color contact lens - you'd still have absolutely no problem distinguishing them.
I'd say that so far only Satsuki looks more or less similar to the way characters usually look nowdays... I wonder why?

Funny, i finf her to be the most unique because she certainly goes agaisnt the cute style that has been reigning in anime for the last decade. It's a nice blend of the stylish contemporary style and crude features reminiscent of anime in the 80's. Lots of people called her "ugly" or "man-face" when she first appeared. Satsuki is stylished but not in the contemporary conventional way. I was glad for that because that make me forget about Satsuki's looks and focus more and more on her characterization.

Yeah, Satsuki is actually the least physically attractive of the female characters (excepting her mother). Ryuko has a more non-standard style than Satsuki does (compared to current anime style), but is prettier. Mako, Nui, and Nonon all fit some sort of moeblob archetype (physically at least). Even Rei Hououmaru is inarguably "prettier" than Satsuki.

This is not a knock to Satsuki. "Mannish" or not, she's certainly earned a place in the anime pantheon of badassedness.

I agree on Satsuki not be "cute" but i disagree on her not being attractive. She certainly has her own kind of attractiveness. She'll probably become an statuasque stunner when she matures more.

Satsuki isn't cute, but I think she's hot. There's more than one way to be physically attractive.

Satsuki is a standard nee sama type bishoujo

For me, Satsuki-sama is the most attractive woman in Kill la Kill.

She's ambitious, resilient, and doesn't take crap from anyone. Plus, she's noble and wants to change the status quo to better her fellow man.

Those are charming features that appeal to only real (confident) men who aren't scared of pursuing strong, opinionated women.

Satsuki doesn't look attractive by certain otaku standards, but she sparkles like the sun which is better than majority of the one-dimensional blobs out there.

All she has to do is show us a genuine smile and it'll change everyone's mind.

What's more? She's "Onee-sama" material.

If things were different (and given a softer look), I can imagine her in Marimite.

Sounds about right. And on a more general level Satsuki reminds me a lot of some other elegant, powerful anime girls like Monogatari's Hitagi Senjougahara and Fate's Rin Tohsaka. Characters of that type aren't always my favourite - I often find myself drawn to a cuter character instead - but I sometimes find myself heavily drawn to these characters. That's definitely the case for me with Kill la Kill, where Satsuki is my favourite.

I never found her particularly mannish though. The long hair and figure aren't exactly androgynous.

THAT, one thousand times that. I think part of the point Imaishi wanted to make in both Kill la Kill and Panty and Stocking before it is "MAN UP 'COS REAL WOMEN ARE NOT SISSIES LIKE YOU". Which is kinda relevant to the current trends in Japanese youth and the worry about declining birth rates. It's funny how both these series feature lots of sexual imagery combined with female characters that are absolutely the opposite of standard moe submissiveness - in a comedic way with Panty Anarchy and now more seriously with Satsuki Kiryuin.

But yeah, Kill la Kill is a great show. I'm suspending my judgement until the end about its message, because no matter how much I like to speculate about it sometimes it feels like the authors are mostly messing around with us rather than following a precise plan in that respect. Which is also okay in its own way (one of my favourite quotes from P&S: "You're never serious! You're always joking around!" "We're ALWAYS serious - we're seriously joking around." fits Trigger like a glove). But the style and the execution are really original and fun to behold. This medium still has something to say after all, no matter how much little sister crap it is drowning in .

Mako needs to get her Goku uniform back and step up as the real protagonist this show deserves.

Ryouko has been pretty...meh as far as her character goes. She doesn't have snark on top of the bland characterization.

And Mako X Ira is the first straight pairing that I've liked in a looong time. They (read Gamagori) are too cute

Man it's been a long while since I've been around the forums. I've been watching the series since day one and I was amazed at how things changed from what I remember. After watching last week's episode I found myself looking back on how the series had started out and where we are now. With lots of anxiety. I'll admit Kill la Kill has become my all time favorite and it's been awhile since I felt this good about a series.

I never said she isn't attractive. She's just not "pretty" or "cute", like most of the other female characters. It's anime. Every female character is physically attractive. Even Ragyo has her MILF thing going on, even though she's completely repugnant as a person.

So anyone knows why the next episode is going purely on webcast? Did they got pulled off the air? Have Aikuro's awesomeness finally reach it's limit with broadcasting standard? XD

Nonono. It's not the series that will be webcast only. It's the "next episode" previews.

Ryuko bland? She's the only one who's getting development and is a lot more entertaining to watch than most of these characters except the villains and Satsuki/Senketsu
If anyone is meh it's Mako her humorous antics are a hit/miss and her speeches are played out.. Episode 7 was her at her best.. problem is that was 12 episodes ago..
