Because the ending to that is certainly interesting in comparison to how the main continuity is going.

I don't know if Akamatsu is actually going to reveal who Negi likes before the end, but just in case he does, I want to say that I think it will be Chachamaru.

336-341 were actually a good breather and set the characters everyday life in a correct pace, without being too fast or draggy (except few points nearly to the random league like Chizuru's pactio I guess).
Heck, I personally liked how Akamatsu managed to give some perspective of characters future with Setsuna, and the showdown between ME Negi and ME Eva (342-343).

While I do agree that there's some good points early on in these chapters (some more ideas about Negi's plan to save the Magic World, Yue talking to her fellow Valkyries via "magic phone"). The main problems here were:

1. Most of the action reverting back not only to the pre-Kyoto days of Negima, but also back to the days of Ken Akamatsu writing Love Hina (with Fate being basically Kanako 2.0 once the Magic World arc ended);

2. The feeling as if "bad harem comedy" antics were a higer priorty to Ken Akamatsu than developing the plot;

3. The fact that the cheerleaders were still clueless to the existence of Magic (despite taking part in helping Asuna) comes of as a major wallbanger IMO (with the wall receiving more dents once the cheerleaders initiate the pointless "3-A vs. Negi" storyline).

I'd rather they restart from the battle of the Gravekeepers Palace, really. Change it so that Ala Alba end up being acknowledged as a genuine threat by CE and the Life Maker instead of pushovers who got overshadowed by Ala Rubra.

and instead give readers the stuff they wanted (i.e. proper development for certain characters, a real "final showdown" between 3-A and CE)?

Don't forget a proper conclusion to Negi's quest on finding his parents.

This ending is worse than I could've imagined. There are so many plot points that will either go unresolved or rushed into 2 chapters? Awful.

Nah, if it's Nodoka then I wouldn't call that as surprising. I mean, it's not like Asuna didn't know about Negi and Nodoka's relationship or Nodoka's feeling at all.

Looks like Akamatsu's exclusive contract with Kodansha is ending.

Some speculate that could be the reason why Negima is ending. He actually wanted to end it earlier, but couldn't until now.
