What would happen if Anime and Manga were banned?

[ wonder if i repeated a thread similiar as this.. wait are this kind of threads allowed? sry im a blur queen ]
Okii lets see now.. What if one day... All the people who would make anime/manga stop making anime/manga because it was banned as they are scared that we follow what the anime/manga people do? [ You know like people who follows "inuyasha".. jump into da well ]

What would you think people do? [ i dunno wats gonna happen.. im to dizzy to think ]

I'd spend a few seconds mourning what society had become, then I'd go back to playing Oblivion.

Well, I'm not sure how the process works in Japan, but a case like this in the US would result in a lawsuit by the ACLU to overturn the ban for violating free speech. I'm sure Japan has an equally bureaucratic method for sorting out things like this.

Meanwhile, I'd catch up on all the classic anime fansubbers like live-evil would be releasing. For every series I've seen, there's at least 100 I've missed.

edit: fixed some wording.

edit2: Also, with a lack of new series, the odds AIR and Mahoraba will get licensed increase exponentially! Well Mahoraba anyway.

XD...If I saw someone jump in a well after watching an ep of Inuyasha I'd personally ask for all anime and manga to be banned...

Spoiler for grown folks only:

As for the rest of your question...I guess I'd be forced to get a life T_T...

Ban a niche market that churns over +80 billion yen into the Japanese economy? Unless our government is willing to let the economy stagnate once again, it'll never happen.

If it were banned I'd try my best to keep it alive, if only underground. It's the stories and characters that I love most and they'd never take that from me. There might be next to nothing new but it would just end up changing form. Creativity can't be contained and the people who make the stuff will just tell their stories in different ways.

Anime is like a spirit, and as such can never parish.

I hope that sounded as cool to you guys as it did in my head.

Assuming the ban were in my own country (as opposed to Japan which I can't see happening)... I'd shovel some money at our civil rights advocate groups, try to vote the banning idiots out (really.. there are idiots of this type on both sides of the aisle) and continue with life -- watching even less diversionary entertainment than I do now (since anime is about the only non-documentary/news stuff I watch anymore).

I might add it to my growing list of "reasons to retire in some other country".

Complete breakdown and total collapse of the Japanese otaku economy that pours and pumps their yen into the GDP of Japan.

The anime fandom would turn into a mafia of otaku-dom and anime piracy would reign! The anime mafia would raid stockpiles of police confiscated anime, their weapon of choice being the paper fan!

I remember they made a video like this for the Sakura-con in Washington.

Last time I saw statistics on it, Japan is now exporting more anime ($) to America than steel ($).

Will never happen, but I could live without anime, if they ban it in Japan.

If they ban it here, I assume, they will also ban video games, RPGs and many TV shows.
I think, I will have to end my life in this case.

The only way anime and Manga could be banned if it makes us kill people - Although the "authorities" are hot on the heels of Game Companies already...Hope Anime and Manga isnt next!

Few scenarios would happen.

1) I'd be forced to get a life
2) I'd have nothing to get excited about
3) I'd be Mr. Average Joe #297074035 living the same life, doing the same things.
4) read more books *gasp*
5) Chase skirts
6) I'd move to Hong Kong. (Piracy capital ahoy!)

It is illegal. Illegal, banned... same thing. Or do you think that the law actually needs to be enforced to call it banned?

In real life, illegal activities aren't called banned, they are called outlawed. I think that the title of this thread was foolishly named by the creator, but I doubt he meant anything else.
