Black humor is the fans' coping mechanism with the darker parts of the VNs.

Laugh instead of crying. A little sweetness to take away the tang of bitterness.

In other thoughts, I'm rather amused at Total Eclipse. It was to be a smallish story to promote a line of toys, sorta like Advance of Zeta, and yet somehow became so popular it got expanded into a bigger series of its own. The opposite of Merchandise Driven.

...also I would totally WANT for this series to have HGML kits and to have even a fraction of the budget a Gundam series gets. Satelight are trying their best, but there's only so much they can do on a limited budget ;_;

Where is the post that contains the Muv-Luv flow chart with Yuuya Bridges in the middle? Its all about his TSF's or something.

Total Eclipse seems to be among the top selling Blu Rays in Japan right now:

As we reach the halfway mark of this series, I felt like taking a moment to look back and reflect.

When we think about it, it seems forgotten now, but the whole controversy about Yui and Yuuya's interactions with each other not only caused an insane flurry of posts, but also led more or less directly to the formation of this subforum, so it was a good thing, as well as leading to one of the longest posts I've ever typed .

Contrasting how they were when Phase 1 of XFJ began, and how they are now as Phase 2 begins with the proper Shiranui Niigata prototype, I can't help but feel pleased with this show - Yui and Yuuya have begun to work through their issues, to accept and acknowledge each other, and to actually talk to each other, rather than at each other, and are no longer so defensive about their positions. In short, they both grew up, something that I wanted them to do.

All in all, I think this has been a solid series so far - certainly I'm entertained enough to rewatch episodes - and I am hopeful for future arcs of Total Eclipse.

About the only problem with the thawing is that the possibility of Yui/Yuuya angrysex is now removed, and replaced with tsundere antics. I think this is probably the first series I've seen where both the male and female lead are tsundere for each other.

Well I did read in a interview that the anime was also mostly focused on Yuuya & Yui as well besides the BETA and everything else regarding the XFJ project. They might as well make the interactions between the two interesting and worth watching. There's a wall between Yuuya and Yui but it's slowly coming down.

It sold well enough for more seasons, right ?

I still think it did not sell enough to take the risk of making extra

I think they should animate Schwarzesmarken after this. From what I've read they won't be able to get away with beach episode crap since the whole thing is nonstop fighting.

To be fair, the beach chapters in the novels were to give Kouki time to plan and figure out where he was taking Total Eclipse; it was never really meant to go beyond the initial arc/premise, it was always intended to help promote the TSF toys. Then it became wildly popular and it was realised that hey, this could be made something worthy of the Muv-Luv name...

But that needs planning time, and the only way to buy time was the Beach Arc. On the other hand, I do think something important came outta that beach arc - Yui and Yuuya began defrosting towards each other.

Even though wont happen, or too unlikely for whatever many reason that are circling around. I want the original story animated in a Hellsing ultimate OVA style... With all the good, the bad, the story has... I appreciate the VN, but I want it animated no barrels hold.

A far away dream, but....

Just to note it's also one of the rare cases where the tsundere acknowledge she is doing something wrong.

... you're right - I've been racking my memory, and I cannot recall a tsundere acknowledging that she's doing something wrong. Or at least if I've seen it before, it was a long time ago...

If Total Eclipse is Top Gun, why is the Go to the Top PV Days of Thunder?

No idea. Different genre, perhaps. Who knows.

Interesting that the rival TSF is the Shiranui Niigata.
