Anyway, this discussion inspired me to go and watch that Angel Beats promo special from a while back that I was too busy to watch when it first came out. The tone of the thing is as self promoting as you'd expect, but it did mention that the second half of the show is supposed to be more Key like in tone than the first, so I wouldn't form any judgements just yet. It's also fairly clear from the interviews that Maeda wanted to do something a bit different from what he'd written for Key, so I get the impression that this is a bit of an experiment for him.

It's largely subjective. Mai-HiME is one of my favorites, but even I will admit there's a lot of stupid shit in there. But I don't care. Arguably, the plot of Angel Beats is only a little more silly than the plot of Air (also created by Jun Maeda) which was pretty wacked and also a mess in pacing. But that was a good show too. So yea.

I still think One Piece is one league above Bleach and Naruto. People just tend to group them together because they are all famous and long shounen....
Also I enjoyed read/watch through different materials about one show, so i don't mind Angel Beats novel/anime/4-koma at all (could be just me). SOme people mentioned that it's a joint project and you supported to do so to enjoy the most or something Anyway, back to the topic. The shows that recently really irritated me is Kara no Kyoukai. SImply because i hate the main character with all my guts. Without him, the show is quite good actually. I even actually rated ep 1 and 5 to be 5/5 and the rest to be 1/5 because of that. In fact i prefer the guy in ep 5 to be the main character. But too bad.....

Aye, Angel Beats isn't *terrible* ... its just that a lot depends on the baggage and history the viewer brings with them in assessing the series.
Series I was very fond of a few years ago sometimes don't stand the test of more experience with other series. OTOH, some series retain their appeal and none of their descendants seem to have the same spark. You have to sift through a lot of chaff and crap to find the few jewels that actually appeal to *you*.

is one piece much more greater story than Naruto and bleach??
because I just cant find why people love one piece...... maybe I kinda dont like the animation at all...... If One piece story is much more greater than those 2 then maybe I'll try to watch it forcefully...

Naruto, Bleach and One Piece. I don't get the hype, they don't even have a plot like Inuyusha, and it's like the scriptwriters go rush their work and "OK! This will do for this week."
Angel Beats! is okay. Just okay. The storyline seems just like another high school anime, but with a morbid twist to it, just not morbid enough to count as artistic. But meh, who cares if Tenshi is cute? Now let's hope the animators do us a favour and put cat ears on her...... You are both wrong. Chocolate Chip Mint is the best! You guys have no tas.....*gets run over by a car*

It's not a deal breaker for me and still effective in some cases, but I understand how it can annoy people. The last episode of Angel Beats is probably this aspect at its worst, since it involves a character that well... I don't care about. So yea, it doesn't bode well for you, sadly. But I can hope for the best; they do seem to be trying hard to not slip back into their own cliches this time.

Well, actually I can see where you're coming from. I'm guessing it was that naive idealistic "killing is always wrong" and "do what i say Ryougi Shiki or else I won't forgive you!" attitude, am I right? I'll admit that did kinda irk me at the time. But I still liked him because he was willing to go the extra mile. He prevented my one of my favourite characters becoming a psychotic murderer and it's not like he got off easy what with the eye and all...

I believe hate is a very strong word and should not be used so freely. Differences of opinion are usually a result of individual preference.
I often come across films/series I do not particularly like, but I will always see merit, and give praise where it is deserved. Evidently our indvidual preferences do taint our judgment, are bias, but I do make a conscious effort to remain impartial when describing a film or recommending it to others. A film/series can be incredible, and very popularly liked - and I will admit that, despite whether or not I like it myself. Personally I am only really interested in anime with adult themes and content. This doesn't simply refer to the obvious: sexual explicitness, violence and gore - but storyline's that are deep and complex, philosophical in nature, or that explore intense human interpersonal relationships - social commentaries if you like. Anime's that only an adult audience could possibly understand. Something like the incredibly popular Naruto holds little appeal with me. I attempted to watch it on a number of occasions, but it just bored me. It's an anime that is suitable for all ages, a family orientated anime - like The Simpsons, everyone can enjoy it. It is not something I would enjoy watching, but impartially, I feel it's a good series with interesting characters and an imaginative concept. I am in the process of creating a review blog - just for fun, a creative outlet. I try to remain impartial - analysing and interpreting what I view, exploring the positive and negative aspects of any given film/series, without injecting my personal opinion. I reserve my personal opinion until the very end, after I have given all of the information - and alongside other sourced ratings - to allow people to make up their own minds. The purpose is primarily to share the interest, the enthusiasm - than to negatively or positively criticise. I find with a lot of sites, not just regarding anime (or indeed this one), but regarding music for instance, people are quick to slag off something they do not like themselves, and consquently ridicule others for their tastes, without seeing merit or anything positive in it. It can be quite difficult when people hold such strong personal opinions, and are unable to take anyone else's into consideration. Fortunately it appears this website is frequented by intelligent people who can justify their opinions and even see beyond them - unlike many other website's I have been on in the past. |

I would happily answer this with DBZ/Naruto
I've tried watching them and I just couldn't get into them. I just don't really have the patience to go and watch One Peice or Bleach either. I just have this thing about watching incredibly long shows, I either get bored of watching them a little bit in, or I get halfway then never finish watching them. |

I wish some of you One piece haters from a few pages back would actually criticize the series after reading or watching through it in its entirety instead of chanting, LOL the art sux and the setting is stupid.
One piece is the only series amongst the big three that gets better as it goes along. Whereas Kubo and Kishi are doing their best to elongate their stagnated behemoths it's nice to see someone who actually thinks about the story and knows where it's headed. Yet people will be content to sit by their vapid criticisms to justify their irrational hate for the series. |

Uhhh... not sure if it's popular, but I kinda dislike most fan service anime on the borderline of hentai (lots of censored things happening here and there). I rather watch real hentai or better yet.... porn. While I don't really hate most of the titles listed here, I don't watch Naruto, Bleach and OP, because they are too long... As for K-on, I don't hate it, but I don't love it either... I watch it because I watched the first season.

Honestly, every series comes with haters. Just that in some cases there are some shows where the vocal hate is obscenely rare even on shows I personally didn't like. I have 2 examples of this.
One of them is Canaan. Most everybody who followed it loved it but I for one thought it was pretty boring, predictable, and unoriginal (the colors aside); complete with a cast I simply had a hard time caring much about at all. And this is coming from someone who's normally lenient on action series because its a genre that can easily leave me entertained without really trying that hard. The other is Macross Frontier. All production values, pretty much nothing else imo. Perhaps for a series this big there are bound to be quite a sum of haters but if there are they havn't been a vocal bunch when I'm around (granted I'm never around enough ). But really, I think I'm one of the very few here that honestly thinks this show is below average. Cast suffers much the same way as Canaan's does for me only this one gets the added bonus of the love triangle making the main characters even more unlikeable than they already are. And the amount of time spent on that was a nice way of really sinking an already uneventful plot. I could go on but I think that's enough out of me. |
