Quite excited for a proper new SaGa game after those mobile titles. I was hoping for home consoles PS4/PS3 but I'm more than happy with the next best thing. The next one can be so. For now, I just hope this comes over.

I imagine if they did Yakuza 5 after a ton of fan requests... the same should happen for this title, too.

It was never dead in Japan. There are plenty of third party titles, but they're mostly otaku games that wouldn't appeal to most of the western audience.

Not really even Japan by this time in it's lifespan PSP had sold nearly 3 times what the vita has.

The games? They are a long running popular traditional-style (and I use the word "traditional" loosely here) RPG series and one of SE's old pillars a long time ago. You could say they were kinda of like company's version of Demon/Dark Souls in a sense.

SaGa (サガ?) is a series of science fiction open world role-playing video games produced by Square, now Square Enix. The series originated on the Game Boy in 1989 as the creation of Akitoshi Kawazu. It has since continued across multiple platforms, from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System to the PlayStation 2. The series is notable for its emphasis on open world exploration, non-linear branching plots, and occasionally unconventional gameplay. This distinguished the series from most of Square's titles. There are currently nine games in the SaGa series, along with several ports and enhanced remakes.

They're pretty niche titles and quite unique with its open-ended game design. Don't expect Final Fantasy or KH going into this if you plan to get this title or play the older ones. It is different, but most of them are very fun.

FFX HD sold really well despite being multiplatform. So SE puts a new game on Vita. If it meets expectations expect more if not then don't.

No, the system platform is always important to software sales.

Not every franchise sells systems, and not everyone owns every system. The number of people who own the system beforehand is important.

Series creator Akitoshi Kawazu recently announced that a new SaGa game is in development for PlayStation Vita, called SaGa 2015 (working title). He shared a few more details on the game in a Q&A session featured in this week’s Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Game Jouhou]


Q: What kind of game is SaGa 2015?

A: A regular RPG.

Q: What kind of gameplay system [will it have]?

A: There’s something like an extension of the free-scenario system [where players can tackle the story in any order] in it. There are also multiple protagonists.

Q: Who is the character holding two swords?

A: The god of the world. His name is Firebringer. As far as the black-haired male and the female characters go, I can’t say anything, yet.


Q: Please tell us about the world.

A: The world setting is close to Romancing SaGa, so if you look at it that way, you could say that it’s like Romancing SaGa 4; however, there are parts that are different from Romancing SaGa, so it’s kind of hard to say.


SaGa 2015 is in development for PlayStation Vita.
