OP
1) Innocence (Sword Art Online OP2) 2) Aurora (Gundam AGE OP4) 3) The Everlasting Guilty Crown (Guilty Crown OP2) I think that last one was a 2012 OP, not sure since I didn't watch the show until after it had finished airing. ED 1) Overfly (Sword Art Online ED2) 2) White Justice (Gundam AGE ED2) Honestly I'm not the biggest fan of endings, normally unless I really like it I'll just skip the rest once the ending starts, so I can only name two because of that. |

These are taken into the utmost precaution, with the OP's request to consider animation quality, conjunction to the series and the song itself. This list would be very different without one or more of these requisites.
OP 1. Hayate no Gotoku! CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU (OP) - CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU 2. Hyouka (OP2) - Mikansei Stride 3. Kokoro Connect (OP1) - Paradigm Spoiler for Honourable Mentions:
Spoiler for Other Likes:
As such, openings this season were not as strong as the endings for me. Hayate easily wins it overall, as the animation might actually tell a better story than the corresponding series and is what I look forward to the most from it each week. Hyouka's OP2 takes second place, mostly for the music itself but also for the creative direction of the animation. Finally, Kokoro Connect and "Paradigm" take third. The song is very memorable to me, and the "rainbows and friends" motif is very charming. Honourable mentions include "Ichiban Ippai" from the K-ON movie, which has easily become my favourite K-ON song of all time. The opening sequence in the movie is classic K-ON, bringing about everything cuddly and adorable that I loved. For a dash of colour and fun have a look at Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun's opening, which perfectly fits the show's quirky nature. Coming in third here is Sword Art Online's first opening, which portrayed how badass the series used to be. Unfortunately, the series has degraded since those times, but I'll never forget hearing the full version live before its actual release. Other likes start with Little Busters!. Taking the already fantastic opening from the visual novel it was based on, the animation version strikes once more with a new mix that it simply amazing. Chuunibyou, one of my surprise series this season, is here as well. The opening, while not being as memorable as its awesome ending, is charming and can make me laugh each time I see it. Robotics;Notes follows behind with "Junjou Spectra", the techno-rock sounding intro that gets you pumped for the show itself, which ironically hasn't matched the epic levels quite yet. Catching a short glimpse of the opening sequence for the recent Madoka movie, I felt it was necessary to include the song that surpassed even "Connect", "Luminous". ClariS just keeps getting better, and this song is just marvelous. I added Yuru Yuri S2's opening. Not to the show's own fault is the animation devoid of a story- it's just the nature of the series itself. The song itself is quite fun, and I stayed each time to listen to it. Finally, Ano Natsu's opening is a very nice tune that has an awesome accompanying animation. Kept watching it through each episode. ED 1. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai (ED) - INSIDE IDENTITY 2. Shin Sekai Yori (ED) - Wareta Ringo 3. Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (ED) - WHITE WISHES Spoiler for Honourable Mentions:
Spoiler for Other Likes:
Now look at the endings! This is where the year excelled for me personally, and I can thoroughly say that I'm impressed. Chuunibyou strikes again, this time taking first place on my pick with "INSIDE IDENTITY". This sequence is not only pulse-pounding awesome, but KyoAni had good fun with the animation and I love watching it move. The mysterious Shin Sekai Yori takes second, with one of the most creative and visually pleasing endings I've ever seen. Each visual plays out to the changes in the music's tempo and dynamics, and it all works together beautifully. Finally, we have my second surprise series of Fall, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun. Just in time for the winter holidays, this jolly tune is animated entirely on what appears to be the same material my personal sketchbook uses, and it creates a charming contrast from the clean lines in the show itself. Boy, how I wish the honourable mentions could be included in the main 3. However, with the ending to THE iDOLM@STER Shiny Festa and its 3 OVAs, the content of the OVAs themselves were average at best, so I just couldn't. The song however is a joy to the ears, and if you play the game of the same name, it brings about a whole new colourful experience that can't be forgotten. K-ON's movie is here again, and the ending was simply stunning. In conjunction with the movie's theme of London, the subtitling groups were kind enough to add that little splash of British themed TV subtitles and the good ol' BBC logo in the corner. Aside from that, the ending itself holds a mountain of its own merits, ranging from being adorable to just plain badass. It kills me to put Kokoro Connect's first ending here, since it hit strong for me when I first experienced it. This is a song that matches its atmosphere well, and always comes in right when it needs to. So many other likes. Hyouka's first ending took me by surprise the first time, but it has an airy nature to it that quickly grew on me. Rinne no Lagrange S2's ending even manages to top S1's "HELLO!" for me, with nothing more than its catchy rhythms and adorable visuals. Coming in again is Kokoro Connect and its third ending "Salvage". Tossing aside the less fitting and tamer second ending, the show returns to the tense nature that drew me to it in the first place. Sword Art Online is here again, with its first ending. It's a song that took me a few times to fully appreciate, and the animation is plain but matches the song quite well. Season 2 of Yuru Yuri comes back again, and when I first started up this series I had no idea I'd like the ending even more than the opening. Doing what it does best, this ending sequence is downright cheery and never fails to put a smile on my face. Little Busters once again with "Alicemagic", another reimagining of what came from the VN. The animation itself is quite bland, but the song remains evergreen. From another series I am absolutely loving at the moment, Psycho-Pass has an ending that proudly portrays everything badass about the series itself. Strong visuals and a very memorable track seal the deal on this one. Robotics;Notes once more with a song that plays out to the cheery side of the series. The animation, whilst being far from extraordinary, is simple and works quite well. From a series that I picked up just recently, Sakurasou's ending theme is a colourful mishmash of visual flair and creativity. The song itself is quite memorable, and the animation is very respectable towards the characters' artistic natures. Finally, Ano Natsu surprised me with a calming song that comes so very close to AnoHana's amazing ending sequence. The effects are still potent and awesome. Overall, great year for an anime lover, and an even greater year for my ears, which are comfortable nestled in my studio headphones and experiencing some of my favourite songs to date.
