My internets, why do you keep doing this to me.
Recently I haven't been able to load imgur, or any pictures from imgur. No I don't get error messages, they just don't load at all. Then there are some other sites I can't load, but I can't see any pattern with those either. My internets, why.

See, anything related to imgur just doesn't load as if it was never there.

Common behavior from overloaded servers. That's coupled with the Internet name servers either being "poisoned" (incorrect address resolution) or the name servers are just being hammered by requests for imgur and are defending themselves (its similar to a DDOS attack).
The way to band-aid it temporarily is to find out what the numeric IP addresses are and add them to your computer's "host" file (buried deep in the operating system folders). People can google for how to find and modify host files on their computer and they can google how to determine the numeric IP addresses of websites. I pull up a DOS command screen and type "ping imgur.com". The response is 54.243.206.51. It is currently timing out (pings are dying a lonely death). That tells me that modifying my hosts file isn't going to do squat because the imgur server is not connected to the Internet (on fire, power off, network near it is hosed/cut, etc). Time to go play Torchlight

The imgur problem makes enough sense, but here's a random list of sites that I'm experiencing the same problem with.
- Plurk - wikis in general - manga sites - etc. Now I don't know if the same principle applies as I've not encountered problems with some before (Plurk) unlike imgur.

I just got the usual pop-up from Java, which in hindsight I get all the time but strangely I haven't gotten in a while. So after I got that pop-up it seems I'm sort of okay now. I'm not sure what the hell just happened though... EDIT: Well that didn't last long...

But I presume most series that choose not to involve them do so because otherwise it pretty much forces them into intolerant parent drama for one or more of the characters if it is trying to be realistic and not every series wants to deal with that. Though plenty of animes in general choose to set aside parents to being next to non-existent status (Bakemonogatari, K-On!, Amagami SS, Hyouka for example all barely have parent presences)

Out of curiosity, what are the chances that there is a movie theater (anywhere in the world...) that shows silent movies?
I doubt there is one that would actively show them...but has there been any that show them occasionally, or even just annually? Don't really know too much about theaters really, nor what to try and look up. Haven't even been to an actual movie theater for almost a year now... Not expecting too much, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. |

Sometimes, people will refurbish old "main street" theaters from the 20th century and have "silent" night in between the "second run $5 movie" nights. They are hard to find though ... much easier to find DVD collections (like Laurel&Hardy or Buster Keaton).

Hmm I guess it'll be time to search for the location of these old "main street" theaters. I do happen to own a few silent film DVD's... I figured such theaters would be hard to find if they existed, though I've always wanted to experience seeing a silent film on a big screen. (this is nothing more than a selfish want anyway ) Thanks for the speedy reply Vexx! Much appreciated. |
