Watched up to episode 18. Manga/anime series created by middle aged man... two chicks getting "too close" to each other around schoolgirls. It's not that "kind of show" but they put in there anyway. Tsk tsk.
Anyhow, they got their friend to college and thwarted some rebels while giggling and doing their schoolgirl stuff. Where is this series going? The galaxy is kept in peace because the Empire is huge and dangerous but there is a sense that things could get bad really fast. Any confirmation Marika's dad is still alive? He probably faked his death to become a spy. Being a full time pirate comes with commitments. He left the ring with the princess, like he wanted his daughter to meet her. - A bunch of spies, mercs, assassins, secret agents, cops, and assortment of badasses went to scope out who Marika was when she inherited her pirate license. - Trouble in Serenity space. Serenity space becomes constitutional monarchy with parliament or something. Rebellion thwarted by recovery of "national treasure." - Member of powerful family finances government rebels and sells weapons illegally. There is supposed to be some actual plot despite the mildly fanservicey nature of the show, I believe About Ririka... she was a celebrity pirate. She used to board ships as a Captain. Did she have her own license? Did she pass it on when she got married? I guess being married to a pirate would have made her a co-Captain. As for the Serenity royal family... did they actually keep going to the golden ship to make new members of their family? The princess mentioned that the contents of the Serendipity were all backups for what was used to populate the Serenity cluster. It was one of many ships used to colonize that area of space. I got the impression that their artificial womb on Serenity got exhausted or broken and they needed the backup one on the ship to continue creating articially engineered rules. Is that right? Maybe the wanted the another one for insurance? |

That's the frustrating thing: the series introduces a lot of interesting things about the past and present of the sci-fi world that Marika lives in, yet does not really take advantage or elaborate on these things (yet) and thus feels unfulfilled. It's mind-boggling since the series revolves around themes of ambition and passion.

Yes it's true in moretsu pirate there are tons of arc theme that comes together so probably going to have some small detail but its good does not mean that the anime is great

This series seems like its designed for 52 to 100+ episodes. 19 episodes in and it seems like they're still building up to a huge story arc.
What about Chiaki? Opening and ending make it seem like Chiaki will team up with Marika on an extended basis. She has yet to wear her green jumpsuit uniform. Barbarossa crew hasn't been fully introduced. Kenjo Kurihara sent his daughter to meet Marika and he goes above and beyond to help Marika. Is Kenjo Ririka's brother or just some old family friend? Kenjo is a descendent of the original pirates... Pirate families keep in touch? You'd think some of them would have rivalries. |

On a more SFW note, here's Marika and her harem. What Captain Marika wants, she takes! Most illogical. The crew would've been released from quarantine a lot faster if they'd had this nurse looking after them. This one's my favorite, but it might be a bit much for the forum so I'll just provide a link. |
